Pregnant riders support group? :)

Fergs you are so sweet to ask! I am doing good, hanging in there. I’m at 22 weeks now and I grounded myself after 20 wks. I wasn’t uncomfortable but I got so winded and hot I was worried about my heart rate. Riding is my main source of fitness so its been frustrating to see myself losing muscle :frowning: Other than that, I am doing great and the kids are growing really well. We found out we’re having two boys! Fergs I’ll be sending you jingles in two weeks for your c section- you are almost there!!![/QUOTE]

Two boys! That’s awesome; congrats! Don’t worry about getting out of shape. Although it was hard for me to stop riding and exercising, too, once I really packed on the pounds, it became evident that my legs would be getting a workout virtually around the clock now that they have to support an extra 40 pounds! My arms are now getting the workout when I have to get out of bed – a one-armed push-up is the only way I can do it.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy is smooth sailing. It honestly doesn’t seem that long ago that I was 22 weeks, so I hope it flies by for you, too!

I’m 25 weeks now and I’m seriously fed up of not riding. I’m lunging my horse though so I suppose that’s something. He’s quite nifty on the lunge now and I can do all sorts of exercises but still not the same :(. I definitely see more of a bump second time round, I look ready to pop and still have a good 3.5 months to go.
To the poster who mentioned riding after baby… where there is a will there is a way! I rode 3 weeks after having my first baby. Noone could have kept me on the floor for any longer! It was wonderful to be bump free and I remember cantering around thinking how brilliant it was to be back onboard.
I would get up super early in the am for the 4am nursing session, pop my sleeping newborn back in the basket next to my sleeping husband and sneak out the house to ride at 5am. Ahhh those peaceful mornings with my horse as the sun came up.
I’d be back at 7am for the next feed just as my baby was stiring, sometimes my husband would be up with him cuddling in bed, sometimes they would both be still asleep! I could cope with the rest of the day having had my 2hrs endulging myself in horses :).

I’m 17+ weeks and just got back from skiing this weekend. Hey, my mare is lame so I figured I might as well take advantage of the almost 2 feet of fresh spring powder. I’m a pretty good skier, so not too worried about my abilities, but I did slow down my speed and tried to stay as far away from other people as possible. Luckily, the slopes were not crowded. I lasted a couple of hours each day before the belly started to protest a little. It’s a strange feeling swooshing down the slopes as you are getting kicked from the inside.

What I’m really obsessing over right now is little man’s name. See, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have “stolen” my name. The relatively-low-on-the-popularity-scale name that I’ve had picked out since my first pregnancy back in 2008. And so now that name just went from Not to Hot.

I know some of you will ask: “Why do you care?” Or “You can still use that name!” I have already had some reactions to the name when I’ve told people that is the name at the top of the list. “Oh, Silas? Like JT named his baby!?” Annnd cue the pregnancy hormone tears.

Hey ladies!

How is everyone holding up. I think we have some babies due very shortly!!

So, somehow I missed this whole thread until today! :stuck_out_tongue: Better late than never. I found out I was “in foal” (love that) back in Dec, due mid-late August. This is my first and I’ve had a few rough patches but the worst drawback is that I have major SI joint pain which resulted in not being able to ride starting in maybe Feb or March I think. Ditto this:

On a positive note I’m teaching my friend who converted from western to hunters so that gets me my barn time. My mare is perfectly happy to be a pasture puff, and this is her worst time of year anyway (raging hormones) so I’m not worrying too much about it. I will be sending her to a friend next week for several months so I can move to Texas and have the baby and get settled without worrying about her too much.

Oh, and having a boy. My dreams of adorable braids with ribbons may have been dashed, but I am totally getting on board with adorable ties for leadline instead.

Little less than three weeks to go and I am so ready for it to be over!! Going to watch a friend’s lesson today so i get some horse time  my sister keeps sending pictures of my gelding and while I love that he’s doing well and looks great I’m dying to be the one riding!!

I’m wondering how Fergs is doing! She should have “foaled” by now!

18 weeks here, doing great!

Still riding, still can’t imagine not riding. haha.

I haven’t jumped in a few weeks, not sure if I will or not. “Conveniently” my black horse cut his knee and has been relegated to walking only. I’ve been doing lots of exciting walk work and just happy to be on the back of a horse.

Ah, good to hear my pregnancy partner (we’re due within days of each other) is doing well. So jealous you are still riding.

I’m 37 weeks tomorrow so hopefully I will have a foaling announcement to share in the next couple of weeks!

OakleyOaks - how are you finding your last few weeks? I"m going to audit a clinic this weekend, it does help to get out and be around ‘horse stuff’.

Picking out my horses feet this morning was a struggle, not sure I’m going to be able to do it again until after this baby comes.

I normally eat really healthy but with this pregnancy I have been craving sweets so bad. I was hoping it would pass but it’s just getting worse the closer I get to my due date. I crave chocolate all day long, it’s all I can think about. Needless to say, I’m nervous about getting back in my breeches…

I’m ready to get this baby OUT.

I’m a couple of days behind you and also craving sweets. I’ve found a true love of watermelon to help squash my cravings! I honestly eat over 500grms a day super cold from the fridge…mmmmm now I’m going to go get some LOL

I did indeed deliver, just over a week ago. It was not the day I had been envisioning, as we learned that morning that our little girl had died in utero. Thankfully her brother was born healthy and perfect. Then I had c-section complications (I literally colicked) and spent a week in the hospital. Talk about crazy ups and downs emotionally … I was (and still am) kind of a wreck.

My little boy is proving to be a great comfort, and we are all so happy to be home. I think once I’m able to ride again I will be feeling even better. I hope all you expectant moms have easy pregnancies and deliveries!

Oh Fergs I’m so sorry about your daughter. I am glad you are finding your little dude a great comfort. I am wishing you just the most positive healing thoughts and speedy recovery to riding and bringing baby out to the barn.

ETA: hugs to you and the whole family

Thank you so much, AAO!

I am so terribly sorry for your loss, Fergs. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Oh Fergs I am so sorry to hear that… major hugs and jingles to you and your family. I am glad to hear your little man is doing well. Sending positive thoughts your way and lots of prayers.

So sorry Fergs, I can’t imagine how hard that must have been. I’m so glad you and your son are home and doing ok!

Fergs, so sorry for you loss, and thankful that you and your son are home now.

We got a couple of nice new horses in at the barn, and one of the owners has a foot injury and can’t ride. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a jumping lesson on a big fancy guy with lots of show mileage, but I had scared the crap out of myself when I came in a little hot though the outside line and the horse started to buck a little on the landing. Nice reminder for me about how I said I was done jumping - I mean it this time!

Fergs - I can’t imagine how heartbreaking and blessed feeling you must have all at the same time. Praying for you and your family, so hard.

Remind me again why you’re not riding? Just preference? Totally reasonable, just was wondering.

Is anyone else as intimated as I am by a baby registry? Give me a tack shop any day of the week over buy buy baby and babies r’ us
