Pregnant riders support group? :)

I had friends who had kids already take me through the registry. I had no idea what I needed and they simplified the list for me.

First time I went in there, I looked at the strollers (I thought I’d start someplace easy) and I couldn’t get them done and undone. I lasted about 30 minutes then left a little frazzled without having put anything on the registry.

I was much better with supervision:)

Take a newer mom with you, baby gear technology changes quite often. You’ll want the latest and greatest.

I swear by the Baby Mozart DVD. Get the original one. The kids love it, I don’t know if makes them smarter (it’s supposed to) or not however the video keeps them so enthralled it gives you enough time to get in the shower and get dressed!

I joked that my youngest watched it so much that she was sure to be a genius.

I’m 37 weeks tomorrow so hopefully I will have a foaling announcement to share in the next couple of weeks!

OakleyOaks - how are you finding your last few weeks? I"m going to audit a clinic this weekend, it does help to get out and be around ‘horse stuff’.

Picking out my horses feet this morning was a struggle, not sure I’m going to be able to do it again until after this baby comes.

I normally eat really healthy but with this pregnancy I have been craving sweets so bad. I was hoping it would pass but it’s just getting worse the closer I get to my due date. I crave chocolate all day long, it’s all I can think about. Needless to say, I’m nervous about getting back in my breeches…

I’m ready to get this baby OUT.
Fergs I am so sorry for your loss.

WannabeDQ these last couple weeks have been super uncomfortable and the little things seem way harder than they should be! Took me forever to put sneakers on when I went to the barn the other day :frowning: it is definitely a big help to just be around horses! I have also been craving sweets and the thought of putting my breeches on is sort of scary at this point lol
I’m hoping the next 2.5 weeks go by quickly, I cried on the way home from my appointment this week because I feel like this pregnancy is never going to end!!
Have fun auditing the clinic!

Fergs, I am so sorry to hear about your baby girl

I had my anatomy scan yesterday and found out we are having a baby girl. Mother’s intuition was right and hubby is over the moon right now. 20 weeks down and 20 to go!

I much appreciate the kind words. We have felt a lot of support and love the past few days, which along with our perfect little boy are getting us through this tough time.

Remind me again why you’re not riding? Just preference? Totally reasonable, just was wondering.

Is anyone else as intimated as I am by a baby registry? Give me a tack shop any day of the week over buy buy baby and babies r’ us
My mare is lame. Probably a suspensory, but she really needs an MRI to diagnose and I just don’t have that kind of money right now on top of my “vet” bills. So she’s in a paddock moseying around until next winter and then we’ll re-evaluate. Some friends have offered up their mounts, but idk, the motivation isn’t really there to ride someone else’s horse right now. And with that said, I miss being in the saddle and so I am supposed to go riding with a friend this weekend.

A poster on here suggested Lucie’s List and that has helped me tremendously with the registry thing. I have a less is more mentality and really just wanted to register for stuff I need. I don’t want a bunch of stuff just to have it. It’s also nice that I have a friend who’s son will be 9 months older than mine so she’s already passed on his 0-3 months stuff and plans to loan me a pack n play, nursing pillow, some bottles, etc. She wants another one next year so I’ll just pass it all back when I’m done!

I am near Boulder. If you are anywhere near me… PM me, please. I would love to drop off dinner for your family one night.

Bleh, lameness is sucky regardless of timing.

I had a friend who went with me to register, it just still seemed like a lot of stuffffffff in those stores. I don’t do well with stuff. Unless it’s bits. or spurs. or half pads. or maybe just tack in general.

Same friend has a 5 month old so she’s doing the same pass along to me, so nice!

FWIW she also offered words of advice to register for a ton of cute crap. People like to buy cute. At babies r’ us you get 10% back on anything bought on your registry in credit. In the end take everything back you don’t want/need in exchange for diapers. She said people would easily buy 50 dollars worth of toys and no diapers. Take the toys back and get the needs.

See this is why I have yet to step foot into Babies R Us or the baby section of Target. I’ve done it all online so far. It’s just too overwhelming to actually go into the store. I did let my mom take me to buy a few maternity clothes on my last visit home and she pouted when I flat out refused to put on the fake belly bump. She wanted me to buy 1/2 the store when all I needed was one pair of pants. Which I’ve worn once. I’ve just been rocking some maxi dresses… so much more comfy.

Now a tack store… totally different. I could spend hours just poking aimlessly around. I’d have no problem creating a registry at a tack store.

Ladies!

I have to share my registry tip! Use BabyList! It’s awesome and will save you lots of registry headache. The site is babyli.st, just type that into your address bar or search engine.

Why is it so awesome? Because you can:

 • Add any item from anywhere, online or physical store. (Babies-r-us, Target, Dover Saddlery…oh wait. ;))

 • It replaces all your registries. Import any registry you’ve already started into your BabyList so you con’t have to redo anything.

 • Organize items into categories, create new categories, arrange your categories, etc.

 • Add things like services, favors (like please come cook us dinner and do our laundry), gift cards/certificates, etc.

 • Create a custom link to your registry to share with people that is easy to remember.

Plus they send you free little cards that say where you are registered to include with you invitations. They’ll send you as many as you need.

So far I’ve been super happy with it and a lot of people who have visited my registry have commented about how great the site is. Actually, if you’d like to see it here is mine: http://babyli.st/kelana-and-atreyu

Forgot to add, they also have a TON of sample registries and a catalog of popular items so you can see what other people are adding. This was really helpful for me because at first I had no idea what to put on it.

Checking in myself here. I’ve been reading but wanted to wait to post. I’m 21 weeks, having a boy in September. I stopped riding 2 weeks ago and it’s killing me but I know it was the right decision.

The registry thing is terrifying. My sister has an 18 month old so she set mine up for me. The Ikea furniture is in the nursery in boxes and all the decorating stuff is there already too.

Fergs, I’m so sorry for your loss.

I’m coveting the Back on Track pony size coolers HARD currently and am trying to find a way to include them in my registry… Babies love blankets right? And I’m sure could benefit from some ceramic coated cooler… But seriously, the whole thing is daunting. Baby gear terrifies me, so I’ve essentially given up on the planning process in the hopes that I’ll get everything at my shower by friends in the know. Other than that, I’ve decided to wing it.

Just found out I’ll be having a c section next week because my little guy decided he wanted to flip around and is breech now! Anyone have any tips for someone having a c section for the first time? I’m freaking out a little bit and only have a few people in my life who have had c sections

My sister has had two! She found it very quick and as long as you follow Drs orders for cleaning it you’ll be right as rain in the same time as a vaginal birth (according to her)

I’m the opposite. The majority of my circle of friends had c-sections due to complications during delivery. So I am kind of terrified of a “natural” birth after hearing their stories!

I think maybe one of the biggest set backs as a rider is that you may not be cleared to get back in the saddle as quickly as after having a “natural” birth. And that’s something I really don’t quite understand. From what I hear your girly parts are torn up after birth and I think the last thing that’s going to be on my mind is straddling a horse!

I had a really easy vaginal birth with my first (and she was almost 9 lbs!) and was pretty much back to normal in under 2 weeks, including riding and working out. For our twins I had to have a c-section, and it sucked big time. I ended up having a rare complication (ileus) and spent a week in the hospital. I’m home now but it’s been two weeks and I’m nowhere near normal. The incision is fine but there’s no way I could ride right now. My doctor says I have to wait at least 6 weeks to ride. :frowning: I might try to get on and walk a little earlier, but for sure the recovery this time around is way worse!

All this said, having a planned c-section is definitely better than needing an emergency one, as you won’t have to endure labor and the harder recovery.

Well I’ll throw my hat into this party too - I am pregnant, with my 2nd child, due in December.

The first time around I rode until 3.5 months and then the show season was over and so I just stopped. I also got big pretty fast and by 4.5 months was too big to ride anyways. I was riding again 3 weeks post-partum.

This time around, I tore my adductor (groin) at just about the same time I become preggo (not related to the becoming preggo - hah!), and I am on stall-rest anyways for 12 weeks because of that - so it looks like I won’t be riding again until 2016 :frowning:

This will be my last one, though. And so I am trying to enjoy it, even though I’m bummed that I’m not able to ride right now while I’m not big.

Thanks guys! I assumed that the riding would be put off for a bit longer with a c section. Glad to hear it’s not a terrible recovery as long as I follow Drs orders  now I’m just waiting for the scheduler to call me back with a date and time!!

They can get torn apart haha though the imagery of that is quite off putting… I think your typical mom with vaginal delivery has mild tearing if any. Don’t forget… you’re designed to stretch out down there, not designed to have an incision through your abdominal wall… that can be harder to heal from. I had a 1st degree (the smallest) tear with my first and got back in the saddle at 6 weeks. The toughest thing to recover from sleep deprivation!!!

PS. hello everyone I am a frequent lurker but very infrequent poster. I have two horses at the moment that are hand-me downs from my MIL and we are building a house on our farm site in the next year or so when I’ll be buying a proper Hunter to get back in the show ring again! And I am due in August with my 2nd baby!

Foaling announcement: we welcomed a 6lb 7oz baby boy on Friday! He is just perfect and delivery went smoothly. I’m supposed to wait until my 6 week post partum checkup to ride again…
