New video footage published last night Of Edward & Jack Sparrow
This may not be the most popular thing to say, but here goes…
It’s starting to get old for me to see Edward Gal on yet another black stallion/horse with the same gaits. You get the feeling that Jack Sparrow is already in training for piaffe because of the way he jerks his hind legs up, yet when you look at the beginning of the video you can actually see him be a little out behind.
I understand that it’s good business for stallion owners to send their horses to Edward Gal because it tends to make more people want to breed to said horse. I remember that last year it was Voice who people oohed and aahed over, but for some reason you don’t hear about him this year.
Color me underwhelmed at this point…
A dressage coat with elbow patches???
Agreed it does make good business sense for both the stallion owner and the mare owner as any additional publicity is always good. But in all fairness it was the quickness of his sire, Johnson’s’ hind Leg that aided him to gaining the marks that he did at his licensing too, which propelled his popularity as a breeding sire and we don’t hear a great deal about him in the competition arena either nor has he made it to Grand Prix.
Combined with an interesting damline and his height (1.75m) for those of us that want to add some, I think he’s a great new addition to the studbook and hope for continued success.
It looks as if Edward Gal stamps his horses more strongly than some stallions!
Regarding Johnson, he is only 9. He’s competing extremely successfully at PSG and Inter 1, winning the VDO cup early in 2011. He’s likely to be competing GP next year. He is a very talented stallion.
LOL- I was thinking the exact same thing!
I agree with Siegi. EG has become the “go to guy” for anyone with a fancy trotting black stallion, but there is a heck of a lot of pressure being put on his young horses to become his next Totilas.
I used to like Johnson but his trot appears impure at times and almost reminds me of that hideous gait used by the Spotted Saddle Horses (what IS that gait, anyway?).
And I hate EG’s jacket in the Jack Sparrow video. Contrasting elbow patches? Contrasting self belt? But then I am not a fan of his grey morning coat, either. Ick to both outfits.
I liked the grey coat that EG wore, but this outfit is hideous. Great that he’s wearing a helmet, but couldn’t he have found a better looking one?
I found this video interesting:

Also, found it very interesting that no walk was shown under saddle in this one.
He is absolutely gorgeous!
I have some pictures from the price giving ceremony in Hengelo last week at this link Also the stallion compeition moves on to Roosendaal next week and there will be more pictures!

I was amused by the angle of the stick when they measured him!
I agree about EG seeming to stamp his horses, and I know for all of them, my entire body tenses up when I watch. Not a judgment of his riding (which is obviously FAR better than mine!) but just that it’s an instinctive reaction to how they all go.

Have you been at the 1st round stallion selections?[/QUOTE]Thanks. I have not been in Ermelo for the first selection cause it’s really hard to get good shots  I chose to follow the stallion competitions instead and this week the stallions i.e. compete in Roosendaal.
Team Nijhof just posted this photo on facebook – Johnson and Jack Sparrow. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=219154921496129&set=a.206763456068609.49264.206759769402311&type=1&theater
Thought I would share – kinda fun to see a father and son together
Other than being talented and black I dont see a bunch of similarities to Totilas as others do.
I feel like this guys is refreshingly long legged

What is on Edward’s back in the first few seconds of this video? I’m watching it on my phone so it’s a small screen but it looks like a back brace of some sort but I can’t really get a good look…

It looks like a “hoodie” to me. Goes by quick but looks like he may be wearing a sweatshirt with a hood.
Lol! I think you’re right. Just looked like there was something under it
