Does anyone know what the price of a new CWD saddle is? Both traditional and 2Gs?
It depends. It depends on the customization, the leather type, color, stitching, etc…
Best contact a rep directly to get an idea based on what you’re looking for.
That said, ballpark, you’re looking at $4500-5500+
Grain leather with calf skin or buffalo knee pads and seat: ~4500
Full calfskin/full buffalo: ~5500
2gs: ~6500
Basically its the type of leather that will change the price, and then the 2Gs is significantly more. Color and customization as far as sizing, block size, fit, etc won’t alter the base price (or at least it didn’t for mine.)
I paid $4000 for a new CWD SE02 3C 2 years ago. Price included stirrup leathers and shipping from France. Rep was wonderful as my horse is hard to fit and my daughter is tall. He watched how she rode and how the horse moved and fitted them accordingly.
Grain with Calf or Buffalo knee/seat is a base price of 4500
Full Calf or Buffalo is a base price of 5500
I am not positive on the 2G but I think it was 6500 grain and 7500 for full calf/buffalo.
I did not have to pay anything additional for various seat/flap combos or based on the color I chose. Just the leather type/combo.
These prices do not include shipping or tax. (As of summer 2014)
My rep did throw in leathers and the saddles come with a nice cover and a leather cleaning kit
I paid 4500$ for a custom grain/calf and got a bridle (Worth 450$) and stirrups leather (Worth 180$) at that price. I am fully satisfied of the saddle. Gives me perfect balance and fits my mare like a glove.
Don’t know if a rep will tell you this, and it’s not what you’re asking, but I was really glad my rep told me so here goes:
The 2Gs don’t hold up well to daily riding. They are meant to be a “show saddle” or for those people that ride once or twice a week and don’t use their saddles hard. If you want a saddle to last a long time and have a better resale, don’t go with the 2G. I assume reps work on commission so may be pushing the 2G, but hopefully yours will discuss this with you as mine did.
**no need to tell me anecdotal stories about how great the 2Gs are. This came straight from the horse’s mouth.

You got a bridle?!?! Man I was cheated!

I repeat that sentiment. It’s kinda a bummer that not all reps are consistent with their bonus or perks.
Royal did you buy your saddle recently?
Thanks everyone. I have a 2011 model and paid $4100. I was just curious how much they’ve gone up since I got mine. I’m having a few balance/fit issues and meeting with a rep this month. I will possibly trade up and wanted to know what they’re worth now.
I’m also curious if Royal bought the saddle recently and got the extra tack(bridle) thrown in for any specific reason? I did get leathers with mine and had the choice of either leathers or girth.

Don’t feel alone, I got cheated too. I asked for a few hats tho!
I did buy a bridle and not real happy with the quality of the leather so far but maybe I just haven’t used it enough.
I ordered the saddle in January 2014 and received it in March. There were no particular reason despite maybe that this rep wanted to make is place in that barn. That barn was mostly Bruno Delgrange. Maybe he wanted to get more clients. Another girl at my barn bought a 2G (it was her third CWD saddle) and got bridle, leathers and girth for the price.

Wow I guess I bought from the wrong rep. I’m thankful I have a really well fitting saddle, but I can’t help but be a little peeved I wasn’t offered the free goodies.
How does the price of a regular CWD (not 2G) compare to the cost of a Voltaire Palm Beach. With or without the pro panels or second skin

I love love love my rep but also feeling a bit disgruntled over the difference in extras with saddle purchase.

I suspect it may also be part of selling CWD in Canada - they don’t have anywhere near the same market share here + the saddle cost is higher than in the US …

I also suspect that has a lot to do with it. And how badly the rep wants to make the particular sale/impress people at that location.

Did you guys try to negotiate?
I’d be surprised if your reps had no room for negotiation - they want to make the sale.

When I purchased my saddle they had been rep hopping a bit. (about four different reps during my purchase). Maybe part of the issue. I believe I paid around 650.00 for bridle and reins so a free one would have been a big bonus. I did get stirrup leathers, conditioner and soap added. I do like their leathers a lot.

I just bought a new Palm Beach in April. It was $5,200 total (including shipping, tax, pre-oiling, and “free” bag of soap and conditioner). I had a trade in and I found Voltaire offered the most for my trade in out do CWD and Antares. I did not get the second skin option, but it wouldn’t have cost any extra. My rep was Brice (the president of Voltaire) and didn’t really seem to push the second skin option very much for me personally. He said it wouldn’t make a HUGE difference for the riders with a longer leg. I will say that even their regular under flap is much thinner leather and a closer feel than a Devoucoux or Antares (I haven’t compared with a CWD). I have the pro panels but am not sure if that was extra or not? It’s just what was suggested for my horse and it didn’t come up as an extra cost on the invoice. My saddle was full calf skin, the buffalo would have been more. And the grain combo leather would be less. The calf skin is beautiful and very grippy.
