I just learned that Zenyatta’s weaning filly was euthanized after a paddock accident. How very tragic. Anyone know what might have happened?
This has been reported in a different thread earlier.
I heard what happened and will not discuss it until the time comes where they make it public. All I will say is it was an accident in the truest sense of the word and no one or nothing was at fault.
Sorry, it was not my intention to intrude or offend, and certainly not to point a finger or blame. I understand it was an accident, but sometimes understanding an accident might help provide some insight as to a remote possibility of avoiding one in the future.
I know you didn’t mean any harm, I just wanted to avoid questions directed towards me personally as it isn’t my place to say. This was an accident that involved the best fencing around the nicest pastures money can buy. Not even bubble wrap would have prevented it.
How sad, regardless of the manner. I was very excited when the Princess was born, and loved to hear and see updates of her. Just heartbreaking for all who knew and loved her.
Laurierace, your answers seem to infer you know something most people don’t. I don’t believe the OP asked you. I’m sure that those of us who care are wondering even though it is not our business. I found your comments full of self importance and distasteful.
She asked everyone. I said I know but can’t say. I don’t really care how you find my comments.
Of course you don’t

No matter ‘what happened’- she’s gone. I am sure this filly had the absolute Best care possible, but terrible accidents happen. We here are sending healing thoughts for all those who loved her and for those who were lucky enough to have worked with her.

I know it’s hard to understand how these things happen when you aren’t there. It’s natural to think “There must be some way to prevent this!”
Sadly, in situations like this, there is not. I have three close breeder friends who have lost either a yearling or a weanling to pasture accidents this year alone. One bad decision on their part, one mis-judged galllop, one pasturemate that kicks up their heels at the wrong moment, or one unfortunate antic that results in a fall… is all it takes. We can’t wrap our babies in bubble wrap. They must run and be young horses if they are going to grow up to be useful equine citizens… and with that comes risk.
I was so very saddened by this loss, and my heart goes out to this filly’s connections.
I thought telling you that it was unavoidable and no one’s fault was better than nothing. Guess I was wrong judging from the likes. If there is a next time I will tell you nothing as you wish.
I can’t believe how many people, here and on facebook, that say they “want to know more about what happened.” It’s so distasteful. If you’ve never lost a horse to a paddock accident, then lucky you. But know that they are bloody and brutal and completely unavoidable. The gritty details are no one’s business.
Which is precisely why I did not and will not share information except to make it clear there is no one to blame.
And again… the same theme. I’m so important that I know but, I’m not going to tell. I don’t feel that you should have posted that you know to “assure” us that it was unavoidable. EVERYONE knows Zenyatta and foals have the best owners and caretakers. Again, distasteful if even true
I don’t find anything distasteful in respecting the owner’s privacy in the face of what must be a devastating loss. The harsh criticism of Laurierace is uncalled for. The OP was asking the board at large for information as to what happened and Laurie shared what she was comfortable sharing. Granted she didn’t soft sell but I see no reason to call her names because she has connections in the racing world not all of us enjoy.
I stand by my post. I think she is using this very sad event to portray herself as something she is not. It appears other COTH members agree
Folks, this topic isn’t about your feelings or someone’s perception of someone’s post or attitude or whatever. It’s about a tragic accident and the death of a lovely foal, however it happened.
Reel it in. It isn’t about you.
Find your vitriol of Laurierace puzzling…the number of likes you’ve received questionable/as in a set up…and your “13 posts” humorous given you choose to denigrate other COTHers with your “wealth of experience”.
Never claimed any “wealth of experience” although I have more than 30 yrs with horses. NOT an expert but do not claim to be. Don’t need “gruesome” details as I get this every day at work. I do not think someone should post on this board that they “are in the know” about a situation such as this. Oh and you feel that if you have not posted often you have no “experience”? Hmmm…
