PS of Sweden Bridle Legal for USEF Jumpers?

Has anyone gotten the brown leather bridle? The site says that the leather color is darker than it shows in the picture, but I don’t want to spend over $300 and then have to worry about staining the bridle.

How much is it to ship a bridle from Sweden? Too bad they do not have a distributor in the US.

My deciding factor in going with the PS of Sweden bridle over the Rambo Micklem were these reviews from some of the blogs I follow. Check them out and see what you think:

Per SprinklerBandits’ review, it is about $30 shipping for UPS 2 day from Sweden and US buyers are exempt from paying the VAT.

Per MsRidiculous earlier in this thread, it sounds like they are going to be coming out with some different leather options for their bridles. I’m hoping that is the reason that there is only the chestnut color left on the website…

MsRidiculous, is your bridle the havana brown?

I just received their hackamore bridle two weeks ago. The brown is what I’d call Old Brown - not havanna. I can PM you a photo if you want.

One part of the bridle had not so good quality leather - it was cracking as I conditioned it. I emailed them about it, with a photo, and they’re going to send me a free replacement! So yay, customer service. The rest of the bridle is lovely.

My horse seems to really like it, he was in fire in our jump lesson last night.

Via their FB page, PS says that the new products will be released on March 11 at 16.00 hours. I too am hoping that this means they will restock some of the colors in some of the models besides chestnut!

I am now all excited about getting a PS bridle thanks to the 900 Facebook Pony review on her blog (I am also in love with her blog, so thank you for the link). I guess it is a matter of the leather now. I think I am going to contact them to see what their plans are.

ETA: Le Sigh. I guess I will have to wait for 6 more days to see their new products. Unless… like a car, the ‘old’ styles will be going on sale when the new styles come out.

I’d love to see a photo of the brown!

Hooray! Please post if you have any additional info! Per DarkJewel Designs, the new products are coming out on March 11th…I guess I can hold off until then to order… I also love 900 Facebook Pony!

DarkJewelDesigns, I don’t suppose you could do a bling browband for the PS of Sweden bridles, could you???

I know they work for at least some of the designs! Sprinklerbandits had a few pictures of the bridles both hanging up and on the horse that have my browbands on them

I plan on using my own browband once I bite the bullet and order

So my first thought was that it probably can get called out explicitly as the Micklem is for dressage, and they just haven’t yet, but there is actually one feature that would be not allowed, which is the elastic inside the bit connections. That kind of insert is specifically prohibited in dressage.

I read the reviews and the one comment I’d add that I like about the Micklem design is because the nosepiece is fixed and doesn’t slide, you have more options for using the bridle with the noseband adjusted loosely, with the points right where you want them. The noseband on this Sweden bridle is going to act more like a figure-8 where pressure will equalize between top and bottom. That’s not a bad thing necessarily, just a difference.

Me too!

Thanks for the PM. I see what you mean about “old brown”. I think I prefer the Havanna, so I am going to wait until the new leathers come out.

PS: Love your horse and your equitation.

OMG, I would totally be willing to put up with the lighter “Chestnut” leather for the sale price on that bridle! Let’s keep our fingers crossed…

YAY!!! I will keep you bookmarked for when I bite the bullet. Blingy browbands are a lot more fun than the plain ones. We are Jumpers afterall, we like to be flashy!

Do they have or are they going to do Havanna?

I am a big fan of plain gear (probably because my horse is the exact opposite of plain) and I was worried that the swoopy browband might look a bit much on him. But I really like it.

Oh, I’m not a fan of the reins. They are lovely quality but too narrow/thin for me. I was struggling to keep a good grip on them by the end of the lesson when they were pretty sweaty, and I was wearing gloves. Luckily my favourite rubber reins are almost exactly the same colour.

Aww, thanks Lord Helpus :tickled_pink:. He’s definitely a jumper and a bit of a cocky one at that – my trainer keeps saying that he’ll be an easier ride when the fences go up a bit more . . . The hackamore has made a difference – the head flipping has almost entirely disappeared and I can half halt better. I also hunt him – not sure how that is going to go with the hackamore though. He was very responsive when cantering in a group the other day, but that’s still quite different from really running.

GUYS!!! There are no more High Jump bridles with the new releases!!! NOOOO! :frowning:

Looks to me that a figure 8 noseband does about the same thing. I had a horse I thought the caveson was bothering and I tried a micklem. It didn’t fit so I switched to a figure 8 and she was fine with it.

Thank you, LookmaNohands. I have actually ridden her in a figure 8 bridle that I have and it rubs her. I also am not crazy about all the pressure it puts on her nose because I think she has a sensitive face, she’s always rubbing after the bridle comes off and its always the cheeks where her teeth are, under her nose and on top of her nose where the noseband sits.

I emailed PS of Sweden and just got a reply that they are sold out currently but will be stocking more. So, I guess it’s back to waiting for me!

Side note: I did see all the pretty new Micklems that they released in the newest Dover catalog! Love the fancy stitch, so pretty! Micklem, you might be swaying me with all the pretty things!

Sorry, I didn’t see how this thread exploded again, I was out of the country.

But yes the brown is definitely a dark brown. The padding on my High Jump is a bit lighter. There’s lots of pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/amanda.chance.980/media_set?set=a.10154881711690641.1073741847.630400640&type=3

You can see the difference in the padding color best in this picture I think
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/10898076_10155167377040641_7907605869452487838_n.jpg?oh=40db9005ea44f8ce1334a1aa933f6145&oe=55851294&gda=1433625376_757f42b47b71d8f81e5d12ead822d1e9

Definitely don’t buy them expecting the leather to darken - it won’t. They’re english leather.

I had the exact opposite feeling about the reins from Feliz - the PS ones are by far my favorite. I love that they are thin and soft, I find them a lot easier to hold on to than my other traditional rubber reins. So I guess as with many things it comes down to personal opinion there.

I really like the new Olympic bridle and kinda want it. How many bridles is too many? I could go for another browband too… it can’t be coincidence that one of their new browbands is exactly my colors.

The high jump is just sold out…they will have more

My horses honest to God went better instantly when in this bridle (the flying change). The large soft poll piece is what I think makes the biggest difference. If you have a regular bridle on your finger, then hold the PSOS, you can feel how light and soft it feels for them.

BTW - the bling browbands are the nicest I have seen, and I have a big collection at home lol

Right?! I think you eventers are allowed to have several. I currently have 4: 2 dressage that just sit that probably need to be sold, my old figure 8 show bridle from Bobby’s English Tack, and my workhorse, cheapo bridle that I use every day. I swear it was like a $50 or $60 bridle that I bought because I thought it was pretty like 12 or 13 years ago and it just won’t wear out. Granted, it’s not the nicest looking anymore because it’s cheap leather but I’m surprised it lasted that long.

I’d sell them all though for the High Jump! Can’t wait for it to come back in stock!
