I bought some and they seem to work well- love that they actually stay up!!!
If you use them do you remove them nightly or leave them on longer?

Mine have been on for about a month, but I do check daily to make sure there’s no rubs. There has not been, but funnily enough, my mare’s fly sheet gets in the way when she poops and manure falls into the back right boot. So I closed the opening a bit with some stick-on velcro and that did the trick.
I left them on for a few days, checking daily for rubs. I decided to take them off last night just to give the horses a break (not sure if they needed a break). It’s kind of tempting to just leave them on most of the time.
Good to know - I just bought some for my horse and plan on leaving on most of the time - except for when he is being ridden.
I hope they work well and he doesn’t pull them apart like he has with other fly boots.
I leave mine on for about 3 days at a time and then take them off for an evening. Like mukluk said, to give them a break, though I’m not sure they need it, either. Miss Ariel, I’ve ridden with them on, and it doesn’t seem to bother them at all. They’re the best horse money I’ve spent lately.
The BO has his horse in these leggings 24/7. He takes them off to ride, maybe once per week. I’m watching the farm right now and am impressed with how well they stand up to constant use, esp compared to other fly boots that other people use.
Mine wear them all the time. I’ve never had an issue with rubbing. They are an awesome design!

However, I have no problem leaving them on overnight, either. For example, when I boarded, I just left them on because I couldn’t always trust the barn staff to take them off/put them back on correctly. I was just out of town for a few days and DH was caring for the horses; I told him just to leave them on to save him time. I never have had any issues when they’ve been left on overnight, unlike other fly boots.
My donkey sometimes has the poo problem stressgirl mentioned. For whatever reason, she’s the only one who has that issue. I think because she always walks while pooping, whereas most others stop!
We are converting the entire barn family and friends to these boots. I absolutely love them! I have a sensitive skinned horse and these have not left one single rub. he is 24/7 turnout and wears them all the time. I am very impressed with the quality… Our horses do occasionally get poop in the back boot but I take mine off daily for a spray down and to ride so not a huge deal.
I leave them on except for when I ride 3-4 times a week since my guy lives out. Once a week I’ll scrub them with some Dawn and a stiff brush to clean the fleece part.
I don’t know if this is a coincidence, but the two times I left them off, he was footsore the next day and had swelling from bug bites! Hence, I just leave them on.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the feedback. My problem is that I have a boy and a girl and I was going to get pink for the girl and blue for the boy. But I ordered two sets of pink. I might get two sets of blue so that way I always have a clean spare. I don’t know if boy horse cares about pink.
I took them off last night and washed them in the machine… they came out all sparkly clean and bright pink. Put them back on the horses this am. So much for that!
I use the Shoofly leggings on my donkey and often leave them on 24/7 but I do check them once a day because hay or grass debri does get caught down in the boot. I’d hate for that to cause a rub.
This is my second (maybe third?) summer using these boots. I only put them on the front feet as I use them to discourage stamping and hopefully keep shoes on (shoes only on front)! I leave them on 24/7 and only remove to ride. Barn staff already removes fly mask nightly and don’t want to add to their list of chores. No issues and fly boots look great and going strong in their second/third season.
Have tried several boots prior to these and by far the best, My horse hasn’t lost one in the pasture yet, knock on wood.
I bought these for my princess of a chestnut mare based on everyone’s rave reviews. They lasted 2 weeks before being trashed beyond repair (well, two of the four). This mare has never destroyed any other fly boots and has lost maybe one blanket in the 5 years I’ve owned her. And she’s a temperamental alpha, so no one else could have destroyed them. Overall, I’m very unhappy. I’ll use the remaining two until as long as they last, but I definitely won’t ever buy them again, especially at the price point.
Another vote for remove nightly. I’ve seen too many horses that wear fly boots 24/7 and the owners are surprised when they find rubs (and cuts!). One horse had the boots stuck to their legs; horse bled, scabbed over and mesh stuck to wound. Granted, that was a REALLY unique/ bad sich…
Have you used Shoo Fly Leggins?
They don’t fit like traditional fly boots; they don’t even make contact with most of the leg. That’s why most of us who use them feel OK leaving them on overnight.
Otherwise, I’m totally with you. I definitely agree traditional fly boots should be removed nightly. I used Kensington boots for years and loved them, never had problems when they were removed nightly. But when I boarded, they often got left on overnight and I’d have the common problems with rubs, leg funk, even swelling sometimes. I still remove my Shoo Fly Leggins nightly, but I do appreciate that I don’t feel like I have to do it.
Do horses get shavings in them after being stalled st night and lying down to sleep?
Most people I know leave them on 24/7 and only take them off for rides. I’ve never personally used them but they do work great. I haven’t noticed horses getting bedding in them since they’re meant to fit rather loosely.
Well, mine came and I put them on yesterday. Horsey ignored them. I left them on overnight and even though he laid down and rolled, no shavings inside (I use fine shavings, not sure if the fluffy ones would be different), no poop in the hinds, and they were still on With no evidence he had tried to remove them. After my lesson first thing this morning I put them back on, and as of feeding time the were still on. I will be so happy if these are the winners.
