Questions about feitv.org since they are streaming live EVERYTHING! YAY!

fsf you are a star

That is great news about FEITV…especially if it holds true for other events in the future in the USA.
Who would ever guess that the FEI would do something that is common sense?

COTH just posted a guide to what’s on and when, everything looks like it’s available online, but it’s all PPV:

Just got off the phone with the USEF. Apparently they are streaming EVERYTHING that isn’t already going to be on NBC or Universal Sports for FREE.

Yeah, I came on here to post this. I was tweeting earlier with someone from (ahem!) one of the Chronicle’s competitors and they quoted me the press release.

thank you!

Anyone know what NBC has planned?

It’s in LearnToFly’s post. Follow the link to the COTH article.

What works on Macs?

Does anyone know what PPV option works on a Mac? FEI TV has a note that their clips don’t, and I am not sure if Silverlight software that is required by Universal Sports works on a Mac. Can someone confirm? Thanks!

I don’t think so

Just reposting what I noted earlier in the Eventing Forum:

Re: iPhone or iPad with Silverlight
01-27-2010 11:13 PM |

Silverlight is not supported by iPhone or iPad and the current limitation is political, not technical. Apple simply does not want Plugin-based RIA applications (Flash, Silverlight) to run on iPhone, for they compete directly with App Store. Even if you have the simplest Flash or SL app, say just Hello World, there is no easy way to make it run on iPhone…

… with the exception of this new scheme that Adobe came up with which is to combine the plugin with the Flash into one single iPhone app, which should then pass Apple’s “no-plugin” app store criteria. But then it won’t exactly be a Flash app, but rather a Flash-like app that only runs on Apple – meaning you cannot direct your user to the same site that other people access. Mono (the open-source Silverlight port) has a similar concept, but it is a commercial product that you need to pay $ for, and you won’t get an SL app either.

So the short answer is no. If Apple and Microsoft get cozy (Bing?) this may change.

We may need a thread just to keep track of which outlet is airing/streaming what/when.

Just now got word that the USEF site is where you go for the Opening Ceremonies (freeness, yayness, THANKS USEF!!!).

Silverlight worked just fine on my Mac during NBC’s live streaming of the Hong Kong Olympics. I did have to download something in advance. At one point, I was even watching show jumping off someone’s WiFi while sitting in my car waiting for our inane beginning-of-the-semester meetings to start.

 Silverlight and Flash do not work on iPhone or iPad, but they do work on (Intel) Macs. My old G4 iBook doesn’t handle all the flash content, sometimes multiple flash things winking and blinking continuously, that is freaking running on so many websites nowadays. And if I recall correctly, I was not able to download the Silverlight that was available at the time of the HK olympics on the G4, but my Mac Mini with the dual intel chip was just fine.

So how about the DROID? Do you think I can get it all there?

Thanks - and my apologies for my DROID stupidity…

Jim Wofford commentator for NBC

On Jim’s blog, he says he will be the NBC commentator for eventing cross country.
I wonder if that means he will also be on Universal internet…and FEI?

My GUESS based on just gut instinct would be Yes to Universal and No to FEI.

virtual course walk and jog

Does anyone know if course walk and any of the jogs are available for viewing? Since my connection is so pokey, I am at my nieces, learning how to negotiate on a Mac and just a different computer. I think I can get the Universal package, [hope so, I just signed up!] but I am lumbering around, trying to get to the different web sites. I am without all the spotsI have highlighted at home so I will be here a LOT, probably asking for help.

They didn’t show the Reining jog, which took place today (a Canadian horse got spun). That doesn’t bode well for them showing the Eventing one, unless USEF does it once their cameras are up and running.

not a single one of these websites works for me.its very frustrating

FEITV is now up and running. USEF site is dead. Live scores here.

how was it?

for those of you with access, How was it?
