When I try & use the quick reply, it flips to a ‘quote’ reply…
I can’t access the quick reply box.
What is the quick reply for anyway?
Mallard, is this problem new or are you just trying out Quick Reply for the first time? At this point, we have Quick Reply set up so that you have to click on the “feather” quote icon on a post in the thread before the QR box is activated. You can choose whether or not to include a quote of that post in your reply by clicking (or not) on the “include quote” box below the QR box.
I tested it and it’s working fine for me, so if you’re still having trouble, perhaps this is a “clear your cache” moment? When all else fails…
Let me know if you still have trouble with it and we can do some more digging around for you.
Huntertwo, it’s personal preference how people prefer to work their replies. You can hit “new reply” at the end of a thread and copy and paste things to quote; you can select a post you’d like to Quick Reply to (with or without a quote) via Quick Reply, as above; or you can use the Multiquote button to include quotes from several previous posts in your reply. When you click on Multiquote on a post, the color of the icon will change so that you know that post is selected for the purposes of your reply.
Other folks, feel free to share your reply preferences and how and why you use them!
Mallard, please let us know if there are any developments…

OK…
Still not getting the quick reply box to open.
I have always been able to use it until last week…when I got my new computer…
Whatis /How do I ‘clear my cache’??
I am having the same problem - quick reply does not work at all, keep getting the reply with quote no matter what I click on except the Reply to Post button. Clearing the cache is not an issue as my machine was just completely rebuilt from a software point of view as I noticed this oddity just a few minutes after I logged in and went to reply to something. Is there possibly a script error? No real idea, just guessing.
Hmmm…not technically saavy to know off hand what’s going on in this situation, though it does seem odd that the problem is common to two essentially new computers.
Before we consult our tech guys, we tried something else. We changed the settings so that you no longer need to click on a post first in order to activate the quick reply window.
That option is set as a default for forums in which posters can reply directly to a post in a thread (sort of creating a sub thread within the main thread). Since our posts are automatically added to the end of threads, we shouldn’t require that extra step of selecting which post the one you’re making is in response to.
You can still click on the feather icon if you want to quote that post in yours however…
Mallard and pacer, are you able to access the window now?
Yep, it shows up now, Mod 1. I wonder if, perhaps it is something with the newest build of Exploder…er, um Explorer 8.0? I never tried reading the script to see if I could see anything hinky…but maybe I should (not great at cgi script though). I really think it is a software problem…should check out another board I frequent that uses the same script.

Sstill not working!
Now what?
Here’s one set of directions about how to clear your cache to see if it helps at all: http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html
Give that a try and we’ll take it from there.
Thanks!
Hurray…I think it’s fixed!
Thanks!
This is happening to me too. Quick reply gives me all the quote stuff. I’ve had this going on for a few days – in fact, ever since the OP originally posted.
And I just cleared my cookies, temp files, etc. just the other day.
Same problem and I am using I8 also. Started when I upgraded to I8 I think. I hit new reply and this is what I got - the quote feature. If I want to reply I try to pick the shortest post and cut it all, but it is an annoyance.

Posted via “quick reply”
Yes, I just upgraded to the new Explorer too. I think we’ve found the common link.

 I actually just had an update myself and am now experiencing the same thing!
However, as a result of this thread, earlier on, we disabled the requirement that you have to select a previous post in order to activate the Quick Reply box, so you should be able to bypass the issue. If you like to use the Quick Reply box, instead of the full message editor, you should be able to just scroll down to the bottom of the screen and start typing without selecting a previous post.
Is that working for everyone?
i TOLD ya it was a software conflict!!!ROFL
BTW, I checked the script against other boards using the same format, and it looked fine…must be something small enough that I never noticed and it is in conf;ict with exploder 8

I just answered this with a “Quick Reply” and got a whole quote.

I answered this with “Quote.” I think it’s the same as quick reply.
And I answered this with “Post Reply” at the end of the thread.
Same here. Post reply at the end of the thread.
Nin, did you click the Quick Reply icon on my post before you typed your reply, or did you just scroll down to the bottom of the page and start typing in the Quick Reply box?
At least for me, even with the update, the Quick Reply box should now let you type away without clicking anything and without quoting anyone (if you don’t click on an existing post first).
“Post Reply” always has, and still should, take you to the full message editor interface w/o including a quote (unless you’ve selected some via the multiquote icon).
