Can someone tell me about this stallion and his offspring? I have heard that many go on to be good jumpers.
I am purchasing an OTTB that is his grandson, my guy is by Slew o Quoit,
Thanks.

I loved Waquiot. He was a huge, gorgeous, loveable looking guy. Not sure how relevant that is when you are talking about a grandsire however.
The horse I am purchasing is huge, jet black, and very sweet. Someone told me the horse Waquoit sired a Gold Cup winner, is that true?
Don’t know, why not do a google search?
Ok I will! Thanks
Waquoit won the Gold Cup, as well as twice winning the Brooklyn H. He was a lovely horse. His page on pedigreeQuery includes a great photo. He was a very good horse who (from what I hear) had a pretty nice temperament.
He put some size and bone in his babies so I’d imagine that they’d be pretty nice sporthorse prospects.
Gold Quoit was 2nd in the Va. Gold Cup and his full sister Gold Mitten was a stellar steeplechase mare. I had the misfortune to run against her in a local Pt to pt race and all we saw was her backside!!!
I think Bruceybruceybrucey was also a jumper but don’t quoit me!!! (ha ha ha)
Raven’s Rock won over timber…
Not sure of others.

Just as an aside… The Gold Cup Waquoit won was on the flat.
The Gold cup that Gold Quoit was 2nd in was over Timber, not hurdles.

I loved Waquoit. He was a great old guy himself and a consistent sire. He was just euthanized this past summer.
I don’t know if he sired a Gold Cup winner, but Waquoit himself won the JC Gold Cup. And he sired quite a few stakes horses.
I’ve had good experiences with his racehorse “kids” for the most part. He has been a pretty successful broodmare sire, too.
ETA-- Ooops, Linny and Xctrygirl were posting at the same time as me! Sorry for redundant info!
Waquiot sired Gold Quoit, who won all over the Virginia Circuit, never won but ran in the steeplechasing Gold Cups a couple times. I believe he is currently eventing with a YR at Training Level.
Most of the Waquoit’s I’ve known are great jumpers. Most that I have known have been direct progeny, and have been grey. If you go to the website in my sig line, and go to horses sold, Jolly Way is a Waquoit. BIG grey mare (easy 17.2), great mover, good jumper, but a bit of a spook sometimes.
I was told by the breeder of the gelding I am getting that Slew o Quoit sired all big babies, slow on the track, but well built.
Has anyone heard of any of them?
Well, in a quick progeny report on pedigree query, it only returned 2 hits. And I don’t know either of them, so can’t help ya there.
I had a Slew O’Quoit baby. Sold him as a 5 yr old. He is a great jumper, nice mover. Is on the bigger side for a TB, looks like there is some other breed in there. He is doing well at Novice, think his new owner is planning on moving him up this year. There is a picture of him on the sale page on my site, go down below the current sale horses.
Also knew a mare by him. She was a good jumper. They both have the same bump between the eyes. The guy I had wasn’t stubborn, but I heard the mare could be!
I stumbled on a result from the Waredaca August 2006 Young Event horse class where his daughter, Quoit Amber, was 2nd. (But those classes were very small then)
Lots of connections to Phyllis Dawson…Ridden by Melissa Hunsberger and owned by Pedro Guiterez.
Not surprising as Slew o Quoit stands in Wv and Phyllis is quite close to both WV and Charlestown.
LOL
Ummm upon looking up her USEA event record, lets just say it isn’t stellar:

But thats just one… Who knows what the group are like.

The mare I knew was the one with Phyllis. Forgot to add that my guy is listed as Ben. Just in case the OP wanted to see the picture. Might be helpful to know which horse you are looking for!

I’m going to age myself here, but I used to love to watch Waquoit run in NE… thats where he started, (Suffolk Downs), and have always been a fan.
Three years ago we bred our aging broodmare to him and got a beeeautiful filly…we still have her, she is gray, and has a lot of his characteristics…we bred to race, although her half sister was a fantastic upper level jumper. So who knows what we will do with her at this point… her name is Wakat.
I am removing the photo to remove the nonpostitive comments. Sigh…
Anyway, I am super excited! I want to use him for Jumpers some Dressage (combined training)! He’s 5, and very lightly raced, spent the last year on the farm chilling out for the most part.
He sounds great… and what a big boy he is!! Good luck with him, and congrats!
I realize that you already gave them a deposit, but did you :
1.) Pull his race record online? (It can show valuable clues and trends towards his soundness and work ethic)
2.) The vet clinic at Charlestown offers a very low cost PPE WITH xrays. PPE’s are like $300
(His ankles look a bit scary to me. Could just be osselets.)
3.) Did you ride him? He’s on the farm… so not a track issue?
I am not trying to come off as sounding negative but sooooo many people aren’t doing their homework with CANTER horses, and they become the same folks that 9 months later are complaining about OTTB’s as a whole.
I don’t envy you trying to get that horse to do dressage. That ewe neck would scare me off. Not to mention the hind end. But he is only 5 and could grow into himself.
I hope your trailer is big enough!! Mine wouldn’t be!!
