Big black horse is home with me now. He is very tall! He’s got the kindest eye and face…

Will post pics again soon!!

OMG - I just saw his picture on the CANTER site the other day. I am so glad he ended up with a lovely home! Good luck and keep us posted. I love hearing about CANTER horses.

Here ![](s my Waquoit filly… she is two, and has not started training… she’s going to be a big girl… Just thought I’d share!

What a cutie. Thanks for sharing!

Buzz, as I have been calling him, is doing great. He loves the fields here and has made good friends with my old gelding.

Now we just need to put more weight and work on his progress. We got on him the other day and he was an angel. He knows nothing, but is very sweet and sane. He just walked around the barn area.

Ahh! Consider me fully jealous! I’ve been browsing the CANTER listings recently for that area as I’ll be moving there this fall for a working student stint and really want to buy an OTTB, and he was my faaaavorite. I was so hoping he’d be available later in the year haha. Mannnn. I may have to steal him from you  Make sure you post pics of his progress! And congratulations! I’m sure he’ll be awesome!

a lil late to the thread but posted him as a “canter cutie” and was told he was taken!! lol. so CONGRATS hes a cutie  lol… and update with pics!!

:)He’s so smart! I taught him to lunge yesterday. He has never lunged in his life, and he learned in about 5 seconds. By the end of the session he was already trotting and walking to my voice commands! He seems very sensible and good… he loves his buddy Elf. I also took him on a walk, with me on the ground, we crossed a culvert with a stream and he walked away from the buddy and was much better today.

He’s a great find! I am looking forward to working with him!

Posting an update to this…

My new OTTB (Buzz) is such a sweet guy. He accepts everything, learns fast, and is now in training with a great person close to me… so we will see what he does!

He’s spent the last 6 weeks happily being a horse on our farm in The Plains, eating grass, and loving it. Hasn’t weaved in a month… he did do it a little bit yesterday his first day at the trainers…but only when he knew we were looking! As soon as we walked away (and snuck up for a peek) he stopped, was eating and calmly looking around.

I think he just likes attention.

He has two horns on his forehead… two little bumps… he’s a BI-nicorn?? Maybe because he’s black?? LOL  He’s not a devil horse though…he’s a sweetheart, moves straight and isn’t a clutz so far…

will update more when we have more to tell!!!

BTW, he is HUGE, nearly 18 hands.

not that you asked

I would show him under his registered name. It is one way to keep track of these horses.

of course my Bertrando son is named Utah Beach (not much lineage there)
and my Key to the Mint son was named Stone (huh?)

but I do like having the horse’s parent’s names show up in their names.

pictures pictures pictures!!!

La Gringa, congratulations on your CANTER purchase.

Now…pictures dagnabit!!!

So glad for you and Buzz.I really like the Waquoit’s I have met. Our boy out of a Waquoit mare is an absolute saint, learns incredibly quickly,is mellow, and still is scopey and fast, (tho truthfully he loves slow and is the king of saunter). Jumps and moves the best, and is just willing and chill and happy to please. Sounds like your boy has the same great mind.

Pics will come soon… I got a new camera and am under the gun to take some of Zuni, my filly… so Buzz will get some too. He needs weight and muscle still.

We are doing a power dose of safeguard and probios, and lots of food so he should fill out… with work too.

I call him Buzzard sometimes, because he’s big black and skinny right now… LOL.:lol::lol:

I am NOT keeping his Reg name as his show name. His show name is “Quoit A Dinner” That is way too wierd for the show ring… sorry, that’s gotta just be on his papers… only. LOL.

Somebody had really bad taste in names.

Stallion Waquoit

It may be too late for anyone to care, but I have a Waquoit grandson, a 2002 gelding, never raced, 17 hands, bright mahogany bay, purchased from the farm where Slew O’Quoit stands. This horse is a pretty good mover, good jumper, and has a very good mind. A good sort with a good work ethic. For a horse that had barely been touched as a 2 year old, he loves people and aims to please. Thought someone might still want to know. Anyone else out there with a Slew O’Quoit?

I used to love a cheap horse Waquoit sired named “Big Chief Wahoo”. He was such a game horse. Ran with knee chips before retiring. I don’t remember how much he made, but I think he probably won a dozen races or so.

Edit: Only won 6 races

Just came across this–Basque (Basque Fantasee) is a grandson of Grey Dawn. He’s
a 16.3 bay with good confirmation and bone, raced for five years and has stayed sound. Great disposition, manners, work ethic.

Yes, pictures of how your guy looks now, please!

![]( thought y’all would like an update on my Waquoit Grandson. He’s doing well, going undersaddle. We found out he’s got a little hock inflamation, but nothing too too serious.

Mary O’Connor has been helping me by leaps and bounds with him. He’s very smart and learns very fast. He’s got a very sweet temperment. The funniest thing is he’s got these two little horns on his head. He’s a Binicorn! I think I mentioned this before.

Also we had him sticked recently…he’s ONLY 17.1 hands NOT 18. It’s amazing because when you stand next to him he seems much taller. He’s got very long legs. He’s really a Black Black gelding. He’s getting a bit faded in the sun but he’s about as black as a gelding can get.

I am calling him Buzz, and “San Blas” is his new show name.

Here’s the latest Photo!

Big Chief Wahoo

I know that I am a little late joining this thread, but I was trying to find more info on my OTTB, son of Waquoit, Big Chief Wahoo. I saw that “DickHertz” posted below about him and was wondering if anyone know how I could contact him. It says that he is banned for some reason but was not sure if it was possible to get an email address somewhere or something?? Thanks
