Any recommendations for placement of Dees to attach a leather radio case? We do not have the radios yet so no case yet. My saddle has a single front Dee each side and I use a breast plate.
Thank you!

On the rare occasion I had to carry a radio I attached it to the Dee Savers that slide over the stirrup bars to save wear and tear on my saddle dees. My radio case also had a bottom strap that attached to the billets.
Depending on the type of breastplate you use, if it’s the typical flay with the buckles that attach to the saddle, just attach the breatplate to the billets of the saddle. I think you can kinda see that in my profile picture (instaed of looping the leather piece through the D at the front of the saddle, loop it around the first or first and second billets, this is how you attach a breast plate to a racing saddle as well). Anyways, then attach the radio case to the front saddle D. I saw a huntsman this weekend that had the radio on one front dee, and the horn case on the other.
If you have a good leatherworker to create it…
I recommend a radio case that attaches to the dee along with the breastplate (or to an additional dee over the stirrup bar as mentioned above), but that also has a loop or buckle that your breastplate strap goes through, to keep your radio in front of your saddle, but without bouncing around. In this case the radio attaches along the breastplate strap.
I use a breastplate on my mare, not because she needs it but because i need it to hang crap on.
I have the dee savers and then I put the part of the breastplate that hooks to the dee savers through the radio case, if it’s a formal day. I don’t use the shoulder mike on formal days.
For informal days I just put it on my belt and run the mike cord behind me over my shoulder to the collar of my shirt.
I also have snaps on the part of the breast plate that hooks to the dee savers to make life easier.
But I like the idea of getting a case made for it that might look nicer and be less of a pain.
Thank you all for the great replies…Now I have a good idea of what to do. AND I do have a great saddle maker who can build me something.
Thanks again!!
a little different
our staff uses a harness on theirselves so they do not have to remove the radio from the holder, and should they become seperated from their horse they still have the radio.

armandh, Those holster things are hideous! looks like something out of a FBI movie, if you need to have the radio on your person ( which is always a bit silly if you happen to fall off and land on it) put it in your pocket, don’t we have enough ugly modern add on’s in the field without these things !!

would that I could tell them what to do
but my job description in the by-laws does not include such.
the answer might be having ones tailor sew in a custom pocket

I have to admit I agree. Our JtMFH/huntsman would blow a gasket if I showed up with something like that. I realize the safety aspect of the whole thing of having the radio though, and my radio is too big for my pocket. We use Motorolas, not those little kind from radio shack.
But there has to be a more attractive way of doing it. I also always carry my cell phone in my pocket, although a signal might be a problem in some areas.
We always used to put the radio into out "Game pocket"A large pocket on the Inside of our hunt coats.
We then clipped the speaker to our lapel.
In Fact I gave our 2 radios to"A".
I think she still uses them.

If they are those big Motorola’s about the size of a brick she may still be using them. If they are the little radio shack ones that Lonesome Palm uses she may be using them around the farm but not for the hunt.
I ordered my own Motorola radio, it’s smaller and lightweight, but still won’t fit in a game pocket. My coats aren’t that loose anyway. I hate the holder that came with it, but I like the idea of getting someone to make a nicer one for it.
I understand the importance of radio’s these days especially if you hunt Coyote, but there are radio’s that are small enough to fit in your pocket yet powerful enough to do the job, those toy things that you can get at Bestbuy aren’t worth a jot, this is a link to the radio’s we use http://www.icomamerica.com/en/products/landmobile/portables/f11_series/default.aspx
you can put a lapel mic on them and there small and discrete
I looked at those. Unfortunately our hunt already has several Motorolas, and whatever I got had to be able to talk to them. Plus I bought my radio myself so cost was also a consideration. Mine is a smaller sized one, but I’m just not loving the coat pocket idea, unless I had a little teeny tiny one, which was too expensive for my wallet.
It makes the line of the coat look sloppy and would be harder to get to the controls.
I would like to see the pics if the OP gets a case made. I am definitely going to look into that.

i thought that was a gun holster!!
The game pocket on a frock coat is plenty big enough for the large Motorolas ,it is of course waterproof too.
And it still looks sloppy.
Besides the one on my coat wouldn’t hold it even if I wanted to put it there, which I don’t.
Just found a website that has lots of cool cases for things, will keep checking it out.
Come on JM…
