I would assume that off-line harassment [edit] is going to depend largely on how easy the target is to dox. If you engage a [edit] on FB or other social media site under your real name, or if it is easy to dox you despite a user name on a forum like COTH, then you are more of a target.
I realize that anonymity is never that secure, and is somewhat transparent on COTH if you know the person or specific community IRL. But there are levels of anonymity even here. Some folks are quite open about their IRL identity, others muffle it a bit.
I also gather that SW and PN like big or semi-big targets. SW would prefer to trash the Canadian Olympic team, though she will certainly go after any low level ammie that gets in her way as well.
As to why one person never gets targeted, I’d say (1) they have more anonymity, and haven’t engaged the [edit] under their real name or on FB and (2) perhaps they have less status or are less of an influencer in the [edit] world.

I do in fact know why he targeted me. I had a facebook friend who i had been “friends” with for several years, I didn’t have any notable interactions with her, but I saw a post that mentioned NP. I private messaged her and told her my experience and that of a friend. No where did I mention the chronicle or anything that did not happen to me or someone I know personally. We had a fairly long conversation via PM where she thanked me and we went on to talk of other things. She must have seen fit to share that with NP as he later posted screen shots of that conversation as “proof.” I would be happy to share that conversation to anyone interested. That is the extent of the interaction I had up until receiving that phone call several weeks after the fact.
My intention was simply to give information to protect someone who may have been unknowing and who was my facebook friend for an extended period of time.
In the interest of posterity, and future verification it is important to post screen shots of the actual offending material.

Funny that the person who just above suggested we keep this thread about DH and not about NP is begging for screen shots about NP.
It is still rather difficult to do much to stop online disputes that border on harassment, but can still be also understood as the legitimate rough and tumble of internet free or perhaps “private” speech. And if moderators remove the material promptly, that’s about as good an outcome as you can hope for.
There probably is no great benefit in widely posting screenshots of antagonistic material once the moderators have removed the material and perhaps banned the poster.
However once the [edit] moves on to IRL and starts abusive phone calls, contacting uninvolved third parties, etc., the “real world” laws kick into effect. You can post a rant on FB with few consequences, but if you phoned up the target and shouted that same rant at them, there are consequences. You can post a rant on a blog, but if you send untrue accusations to actual third parties to damage the reputation of the target, there are clear laws about that. Once the harassment has moved to that stage, you do need to invoke “real world” laws for your own protection.

These legal wranglings are exactly what gets threads closed, I would urge those wishing to continue to discuss NP to please open a thread dedicated to him.
Thistle Dew I agree about keeping the post private while there is a police investigation going on. I hope you are successful in bringing charges. I guess now too you know who your friends are. What friend goes and shares a private conversation and brings his wrath against you. I guess he still has a few sheeple followers.
Its a frustrating thing and I’d rather not muddy the waters. I have stayed out of the drama involved surrounding NP for the past several years due to my status as a professional and not wanting to participate in something that could affect my business. The situation is being handled by the police and is criminal. I know that many other people have been similarly treated but have not had the proof necessary to have charges brought. I want to make sure that there is some recourse and documentation via the police so that others may have a better chance of this not happening again or at least being taken seriously by authorities if it does. Suffice it to say there is ample documentation that what I say is true and if needed can be provided to those it would be helpful to.
I have never met ThistleDewDressage and have no way to gauge his/her reliability.
But as far as I can see there is no proof that NP has done any of the things he is accused of, so now all we have is 2 entities posting unverifiable accusations about each other.
Only 1 side is posted here.
I would like to review with my own eyes any evidence of wrong-doing if someone is going to come here and claim wrong-doing happened.

I’m very easy to find. He used my full name during the video that was posted as well as on his blog. I will not be sharing information that may be helpful to the police to anyone on a public forum until I am comfortable that it is the appropriate thing to do. For the record I did not come here claiming anything until people brought it up and I identified myself as the recipient to save people from guessing. I don’t have to claim wrongdoing as he posted the whole thing himself. Plenty of people saw it play out on Facebook and his blog.
I saw the video of the phone call in question before the perpetrator pulled it down. It was, as the kids say, “CRAY CRAY”. ThistleDewDressage was amazingly polite to the ranting man who called her at 11 pm.
So here’s another entity vouching for her. No, I don’t know her in real life, only through FB. Just like I “know” NP from here and from Facebook. If it makes a difference to you - I happily participate in discussions and PMs on her page. I’m afraid to do that with NP, because (a) there’s no point and (b) I’d likely become a target if I criticized him. One of these things is not like the other.
Oh, and it’s quite easy to find the blog if you want because it is cached by google. He clearly states there that he tracked her IP address to find her contact info to harass her. He also claims he had a warrant. Which… yeah, you would have meant subpoena if you had a clue, [edit].
