Refining Holsteiner Stallions

We have used Willemoes on a Ulysses m2s x Ahorn mare. Phenotypically, we were breeding type to type and as can be expected got a colt - now a yearling - very similar to both. The XX percentage in the colt, Sakura Hill Wyoming (http://sakurahillfarm.com/horses.php?HOID=118) is 44%. Both sire and dam are 167 high, whereas the colt will be somewhat taller. We call this colt our “elegant statesman” due to his unflappable temperament. He will make an ambitious ammie very happy given his athleticism and temperament. One can compare the 2011 filly Sakura Hill Cantanita out of the same mare by Canturo, another Cantus son.(http://www.sakurahillfarm.com/horses.php?HOID=123) She has 47 % xx and is a finely chiseled feminine example. How much of this is gender and how much the sire? One can only speculate and she really is still too young to make an assessment, except to say that she is a keeper for us!

Went with Quinar for the Ratibor/ Flamingo/ Liguster mare (shes a 17.2 tank) and going to go with Limoncello II for the Rantares/ Flamingo/ Liguster mare. We shall see!

A very underutilized young holsteiner stallion that is very good for refining is Stealth - by Sabotage out of a performance tb mare. The foals of his that I have seen have been very leggy and modern, and very good jumpers. http://www.concaletto.com/stealth.html

Con Caletto also does a very good job of refining. He is a mid sized stallion as far as size and his offspring even out of some fairly heavy mares are all ending up very similar to him in type - very leggy and athletic. I think as his offspring are starting to get out there and show under saddle they are going to be very special. http://www.concaletto.com/concaletto.html

I take that back- going to go with Conquest with the Rantares mare. Next year something with Pilot- he is so underused.

My admiration for the Holsteiner stems from their wonderful canters, their somewhat larger frames, their excellent jump style and sport abilities. When breeding, I feel these qualities should be protected.
