I have one house cat who occasionally vomits on the carpet. Even if I see her doing it and clean it up immediately, there is still a stain. Could someone recommend either a product I can buy or something I can make myself to remove the stain.

Make sure you get whatever you use for stain removal deep into carpet. The reason stains “re-appear” is because the sugars left in the stain from the food, attracts dirt and makes the stain show back up.
And I’m sorry there is nothing worse than the stain from Friskies Salmon dinner - it’s a nasty pink color and is a beeyotch to get out.
Just ordered this as we have a vomit stain on light carpet that is persistent.
Original poster here. Just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my request for something to remove cat vomit stains. I’m going to get the carpet cleaned in March, so will now have something I can use afterward to remove the stains.

I second the Woolite product! It’s like magic! I have had to get down on the floor and try to find the wet spot after spraying with this stuff. It literally makes the stain disappear before your eyes! I would not have rugs if it wasn’t for this stuff! I have a bottle upstairs and another downstairs! Love it!
One day after we had a light beige carpet installed our Golden Retriever threw up all over it. I used Nature’s Miracle, and it removed the stain with nary a trace of colored vomit remaining.
Spot Shot also works well
When I had a frequent puker I had to change to a food with no artificial colors, which helped a lot - no big red spots to try to remove from the carpet… The vet said that food dyes could promote vomiting in some cats.
I’ve never tried the Woolite, but the Resolve formulated for pet stains will vanish just about anything. I swear, ordinary non-pet stains, I can spray it on and it fades before my eyes
When I was looking for carpet, I commented to the sales lady that they would make a fortune if they had a carpet line with colors that coordinated with cat barf colors - Salmon Pink, Cat Chow Red, etc. She just looked at me.:lol:
While I can’t speak for cat vomit, I use Folex spot remover for dog stains. It also does an amazing job on blood stains. It also is approved for use in the rental carpet cleaning machines. http://www.folex.net

Dawn dish detergent mixed with peroxide will handle almost any stain or odour. Dawn dish detergent, peroxide and baking soda even tackles skunk spray.
That dawn, peroxide and baking soda mix did de-skunk a friend’s dog very well, but it also partially bleached out her coat, too. Might do the same to fabric.
That sounds unlikely unless they used a commercial strength peroxide for bleaching hair. I have used this many times on my show dogs with no change in their coat color. I know many people who have used it on show dogs and never had issues. What kind of dog?
That said - it is never a bad idea to spot test any fabric. Or dog, I suppose.
I just gave the recipe to my friend whose black lab/Dobe got sprayed last week and it didn’t bleach out his fur, maybe your friend put too much baking soda in the mix? I suppose it could change the colour in some fabrics but when using this method for fabric you are supposed to leave out the baking soda which would still remove the stain and odour but would most likely not change the colour.
Like S1969 advised, possible spot testing would be a good idea?
until I moved to a new apartment with dark brown carpet. The Woolite spray left a lighter stain so I switched back to vinegar and hot water, which works with both vomit stain and odor.
The Woolite worked fine on my other, beige carpet. I was going to ask OP what color and material her carpet is, but looks like she hasn’t been here since January. But IME the color and material affect how the Woolite works.
A furry black tri aussie. Her coat got noticable red ends on the hair, looked sunbleached. I’m pretty sure she mixed the ingredients according to the recipie, but not sure how long she left it on the dog before rinsing it all out.
Be very careful if you use that baking soda detergent mix. I used it (measured to a T) and it made my carpet permanently crunchy where it was used and it has never felt the same. Doesn’t look too bad or bleached/discolored - just looks stiff and feels gross when you walk on it (thank goodness it is more in the corner and not where I walk most of the time). My carpet is a frieze so maybe that type just doesn’t work well with this solution? I don’t know. Definitely spot test.
Like @RPM I use Woolite. I use a different type though, the Woolite Fabric & Furniture Cleaner Foam which has a scrubby bristly head on it. It works wonders for poop stains and vomit. It is honestly magical for me - very little effort to get things looking and smelling like normal! I use it in my car with a medium grey interior and my carpet which is beige and it has not left stains on those.
