Renovo for Front SDFT?

Like the title says I’m thinking of using Renovo and just wanted to know people’s experiences for something similar. The injury was from getting stuck in deep mud and twisting out of it. Did about a 25% tear to his SDFT(suspensory we just healed from another freak accident looks gorgeous at least) but he did a number on the tendon. We’re going to start either PRP or Renovo in a week to 10 days and vet will have the price for us but I want to hear if the price point is worth it.

My vet loves it and I will be using it next month for a mid and lateral tear of Hind suspensory in my horse. Revono also treat melanomas so will be excited to see how that works. I’ve read the studies and they look very promising. Contact Revono and they will send you the studies on ligament tears.

I’ll have to send a request. I’ve seen promising stuff just more questions on it due to the price point

My vet says he charges $1200 and that includes him injecting the site. I think it will be worth it because of the studies I have read and how you can use it anytime during healing. One study had a horse heal nicely and back to 1.15m after reinjuring the tendon after it healed and Renovo was used.

I have never had to use it myself. Last time I had a tendon injury was before Renovo was around, but I know that my vet has used it with great success.

If you can swing the price, I would do whatever your vet thinks it best for your horse with the best chance of recovery. If they recommend Renovo, do it!!!

And then I would also tell you to do lots of PEMF on it as well. I’ve had real great success with PEMF help heal injuries like this.

100% do the Renovo.

My vet is one that has worked with Renovo on research, and it is truly amazing stuff. Client’s 1.50 horse last fall did a hind suspensory and was back by July jumping FEI. Just one of the few cases we have had with great success.

We have also used it for quarter cracks, summer sores, eye ulcers, and joint injections. It works astonishingly well.

Can I ask what type of hind Suspensory damage was done as in high, mid or low? Mine is mod to severe but the vet thinks he will go back to full work. My goal is 1m with him and we were jumping 2’9 before he injured it. We think a pasture accident.

Was it a tear, strain? Did you also so shockwave and Bemer? I currently finished shockwave and I bemer his leg before and after tack walking.

One more question. Revono said that it will work on melanomas. Does your vet have any information on that? My horse has them behind his cheeks and they are large.

Thank you. I do appreciate your help.

It was high hind suspensory, it was moderate to severe tear. Full recovery, we shockwaved several times. I personally do not believe in the Bemer products, but we have a class 3 laser that was used on it 3x a day as well. We iced and he went to a salt water spa 2x a week as well the first month.

I will have to ask about melanomas as we haven’t had any horses in the barn with any

That is amazing! I am so happy you had great results. This makes me happy and hopeful that my guy will heal fully.

We will be doing the Renovo injection today or tomorrow so fingers crossed. His recovery is going to go a bit slower due to age and having Cushing and my decision to keep him on turn out in a smallish paddock that I rehabbed him in previously. We’re doing 5 minutes once a day because he is turned out for half the day, the cold hosing and I’m KT taping the leg for some added support and a collagen supplement. We’ll go from there to see how it heals

It’s been a week since his injection. It looks pretty good. Bruised for the first couple of days. He is short stepping on that leg but otherwise walking comfortably. He’s pasture sound thankfully and the swelling and heat seem to be gone mostly for good but I’m still wrapping his leg at night and slapping a strip of KT tape over the injury site for good measure. My only experience with soft tissue injuries was a very tiny hole in his suspensory from getting kicked and that honestly healed so smoothly and easily and while it was a good bit of rehab I think it gave me an unrealistic expectation with just how well it healed and very gave a single problem. He has a good prognosis though due to how well his suspensory healed and the fact this was from a traumatic injury that we were able to start treating immediately

Did Renovo for my guy yesterday. After the subcutaneous injection, we shock waved the area. My vet told me this has significant results with the healing factor. He did a lot of research so I went with it.

Went well. His leg looks normal too. I am to tack walk him for 15 minutes everyday for a week and no Bemer.

We are 90 days into rehab too.

In 30 days, we will U/S and I’ll let you know the results.

Good to hear the update!
Will the vet just plan on one round of shockwave? When we did initial treatment for my mare’s hind suspensory injury we did renovo and 3 rounds of shockwave.

No because we already did the three rounds of shockwave back in Jan before using renovo. My vet think one round is enough, but we will also see what the U/S shows in 30 days. He’s very excited about Renovo as my horse is the first one he has treated with this product.

I’m curious, why did you vet want to do three rounds instead of one after the treatment?
I’ll also ask my vet is we should do two more rounds of Shockwave.

Well it was the beginning of her treatment and I think three rounds of shockwave is generally considered to be the ‘gold standard’? So it sounds like you’ve already had the three rounds and now have added Renovo into the equation as well. I don’t believe the three rounds of shockwave is the recommendation specifically with Renovo but rather with the type of injury overall.

Wishing you a smooth rehab journey!

Thank you. I hope your horse heals 100%.
We did the shockwave right after injection, but he had this three series of shockwave before we did injection. Was waiting to get the money so he had about a month after the three series before injection.

His tack walking is going fantastic.

Another update. He is walking way more forward and he’s swinging his hips. He feels so much better and it doesn’t feel like we are walking though molasses. He just feels good. I can’t explain it. It’s an amazing feeling.

I am very hopeful.

Small update. About a week after the injection the leg bowed and had more inflammation than we would have liked to see. A month after we ultrasounded the tendon and it was inflamed still. We did 5 days of stall rest and then turned back out before one of us killed the other (22 yo pony whose opinion will be known). His body has been feeling better and the heat is out of the leg but it was hard seeing his leg every day stressing over if it was normal for the situation and if I was making a terrible line of mistakes and failing him for 3 weeks. Ultrasounded him today. The tear site still has inflammation but we did inject something to promote that (plus I probably had a not so great wrap or two with wraps I was struggling with that were new) and the tendon around the injury is looking pretty decent. We are 8 weeks post sdft injury and 6weeks post renovo injection. He’s actually pretty sound at the walk and trot and is pasture sound so baby steps in the right direction. Also adding some pictures of his leg. It likely will only improve a little over the next year or two from this and always look ugly but as long as it holds and functions that is all I can hope for.
