No notifications for me either.
I’m a bit confused of how new members are popping up when current members can’t even log in.
I would also like to know why admin is not returning messages?
I understand that many members use this forum free of charge, are the paid members also experiencing problems?
I’ve informed the tech folk that the admin emails aren’t being answered. I don’t know if they’re not being delivered, or if they’re not going the correct place. There are no longer any paid members of the forums. We used to have Premium memberships, but stopped offering them quite a while back.
After our email exchange, I contacted the tech support for help in resolving your issue logging in with your iPad. With the exception of one other person who unfortunately did not want to further pursue a solution to the log-in trouble she was having, I believe I’ve been able to help everyone else get back online.
I’m sure there are plenty of folks who have understandably gotten frustrated and moved on without contacting me or have reached a dead end with the broken site administrator email link. While there are way more log-in issues than we should be having, there are still lots of people who are logged in and posting, so it’s not a universal problem, which is why you’re seeing new members joining…and why it can be difficult to reproduce and resolve the issue(s).
We’re working to fix things, and we are definitely exploring moving the site to a new platform to help mitigate problems going forward.
This is such a good point. In a previous life I did computer tech support. More than frustrating to hear about a problem and then have the user with the problem be unwilling to help pin-point the problem and yeah, sometimes, it takes time and work on the user’s side. Sometimes why some of us may ask questions that appear to be inane but they help narrow down where the problem might be occurring. Gotta “see” the problem to fix it… general problem statements are usually not enough.
I realize it’s a small thing, but I would love it if we could have a followed link color again. I am losing track of what discussions I have been reading and not, and that followed link color was a valuable clue, if I saw it in bold.
Thanks for all y’all are doing and I appreciate the progress!
the “problem” is the problem is not consistent… the software if there is fault should reproduce the fault when the same commands are given, but this “problem” mutates off into some other land
I am beginning to think it records keystrokes and breaks at a specific count
 <---- Laughing smiley for those that can not see it.
Love this.
Clearly the software is on the grumpy and uncooperative side.
I am hoping the people in charge find new, less grumpy, software and switch us over with out much of a speed bump. (Heck, a person can dream, can’t they?)
Are you getting quote notifications? Likes? @JB mentions? Those are what I’m missing.
”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹
Subscription notifications seem to be doing fine for me.
And I still have emojis on the phone but not the computer. So weird!
”‹”‹
Oh, yeah, you’re right - only getting new comment notifications. My bad!
It’s been worse than usual today, I’m used to the missing emojis and the logging in issues, but today began the posting issues. Twice I posted and went to edit and when I hit save I got the unapproved "spam’ notice.
Then there is what i call the phantom threads. Sometimes a thread will be there and then poof it’s gone only to return a day or two later, still active with current, new posts.
And while I’m at it, I can only “like” certain posts. Especially on the political threads…hmmmmm. Conspiracy or coincidence, only CoTH knows for sure. Yeah, I know, the tin foil hat’s too tight…there, I loosened it.
That helps explain things more, thanks!
I’m wondering if the problem with the ipad is that I use safari on it, I was able to log in on the Mac and it uses chrome.
Thanks for your persistence and patience.
Frankly, the ‘problem’ is ‘consistent’ when the same conditions occur. Software doesn’t usually act randomly, it just appears to.
There are so many moving parts when a problem in today’s software occurs that it takes time to track down what set of conditions causes the problem. And why it is so hard to ‘fix’ a problem when you don’t know what set of conditions caused it. At least if someone is experiencing the problem, they can often, with work and time, help track down the problem.
I have been having this problem from time to time too, not in the current events section since I do not go there if I can help it.
Thanks Trub, I am glad to know it’s not just me. I was probably a little snitty about it yesterday, lol. I know it’s know it’s no one fault. I’m getting really pent up with the pandemic precautions and all that, it’s starting to get to me.
Members of the development team are meeting today with reps from one of the forums platform companies they’re considering for a revamping of the site. I make no promises, but making a switch is something they’re looking into very seriously. I would imagine some of the little glitchy things may go unresolved in the near term if they’re committed to switching to a new platform soon. I’ll keep you posted as I know more. I think everyone is universally annoyed with vBulletin at the moment, so y’all are not alone!
but you Paid for the software and its great promises which have never been fulfilled… you need a refund :)insert missing smiley face here
Notifications are working again, yay!!
And fingers crossed for a successful meeting today!!
It served us pretty well since 1999 or so. I’ll leave the heavy negotiations for the folks upstairs!
I randomly got two notifications for two posts marked as spam and stuck in the moderation queue. That’s a first!
