vBulletin got wind of your pending conversation with a competitor 🤣🤣🤣
When software becomes this problematic, the pain is rarely limited to the end users (us)
As long as we all bear in mind that if/when new BB software is implemented, we’ll all get to go through a whole new learning curve and those attendant problems. If the decision is made to change platforms, something I am sure the developers/administration has considered but often the end-users forget until it happens
As someone who has had to deal.with frequent switching of college LMS platforms, the pain of switching is real. Don’t ever believe the “seamless transition” fables.
I had “Like” notifications this morning
Wow! We have not had those in ages (I believe on purpose).
I did get one quote notification yesterday evening.
I’m pretty sure until the time of the outage, I was still getting them?
And yep I’m also now getting quote notifications!
I have not gotten the like notifications in ages. (Since shortly after we moved to the current format.) I thought they were turned off by important people.
I did get a quote notification for this quote. :applause:
I didn’t lose notifications until I could no longer log in on my iPad. They disappeared for a week and are back since yesterday.
Still can’t log in on my iPad and have heard nothing back from Mod1 or Admin.
The community’s familiarity with vBulletin has been a huge reason we’ve persisted with it for so long, so yes, we’re definitely aware it’s going to be a huge transition for everyone if/when we do finally pull the trigger. I’ll have to learn all the back end buttons and levers too, so, yes, I’m sure there will be some growing pains when it comes time! I did some preliminary checking out of one of the platforms they were considering and it seems pretty intuitive, but change is always tough.
We definitely plan to keep the users in the loop during any transition we eventually make to keep your input and ideas involved with the process, so we can all figure things out together!
@CanadianTrotter As promised, I sent the details and screenshots up the line for help, but I haven’t heard anything back. I did a search on vBulletin’s help forum and there were some complaints of a glitch affecting some users trying to log in on iPads, so I sent the tech folk a link to see if that was related. You’re welcome to post specifics here if you like in case anyone here would have any ideas. Although I’m the chief button pusher, I’m by no means a tech guru, and I’ve gone through the options I can think of to resolve the iPad issue. I wish I could be of more help!
Thank you @Moderator 1 for once again keeping us all informed.
I am the queen of the ‘hate change’ club but it does seem like it might be time to move on since vBulletin is not supporting your efforts to have things keep working smoothly.
A late addition (well a few of them).
Smilies mostly not working. Notifications are working (at least I am getting them).
Bear in mind that even if COTH were to decide today that they would be going to different BB software, that doesn’t mean that next Monday we’ll be using it… it’ll still be a lengthy process to decide what software, get all the paperwork signed and a migration plan set up (even if the new software has some ‘canned’ migrations, there is usually some amount of customization that usually takes place) and then the magic will happen and the migration will take place…
I have no doubts that it is a long drawn out process.
I was simply pointing out that even a person who does not like change totally gets why moving to something new in this situation is a good thing.
If smilies were working, I’d have put a few in.
Change is not and will not be fun but at least ‘we’re all in this together’ (now where have I heard that before… arrrrggghhhh smiling!)
Thanks for trying, I didn’t doubt you sent the details further up and realize your hands re tied.
I have the use of the Mac in the evenings which makes things easier…if I can remember not to tap or scroll on the screen!
I’ll hang in through whatever changes are decided upon.
COTH has a diverse and (mostly) intelligent membership. Whether I agree or disagree with some members, there are many with whom I would miss having a dialog and others whose knowledge about specific subjects I value and would be a loss to me if I were to “pack up my toys and go home” over the glitches, frustrating as they are.
The moderation of this site is also an important feature. Intelligent, that it insists on civility, without being repressive.
Thanks @Moderator 1
Much appreciated on all points, skydy!
Mod 1, as a suggestion maybe make a sticky to have every one who is still here make sure their email address are current so that if/when the board software changes an email blast could be sent
Won’t the website address be the same so like in all times past that they have updated a person will open COTH and see something new and different… but be able to log in.

COTH has become its own version of a search engine for so many things!
Hit the nail on the head with this. I find that in one topic I am disagreeing with someone while in a completely different topic I’m in agreement with that same person.
I try to keep my whining to myself as much as possible and just don’t click on topics I know will raise my BP.
I’ve had an opportunity to exchange information and read from people that otherwise, I’d have most likely never ‘met’.
COTH is part of my morning ‘routine’ as it’s something I can do regardless of the weather outside… currently 104 in the shade on my north-facing patio…!
