Rescued-- UPDATE & New Kittens- update Silo sighting 7/26

Another update.

Stopped in to pay my bill this morning. It seems he didn’t eat something too large but had a horrible infection in his throat that was draining out his mouth :confounded:.

How it happened is anyone guess. All I know is that it was so bad my vet didn’t even want to try and treat it. I have no idea what caused it but he was fine on Sunday and very bad on Wednesday.

I am just thankful that he came home when he did.

So, so sorry candyappy. Losing them is always hard but some of them are extra heartbreaking.

You gave Rufus a wonderful life and a peaceful end. He was lucky to have you. Sending you and Rufus’ cat family big hugs.

Bringing up this old thread to say ( most likely) goodbye to my precious boy Silo.

No sign of him for weeks now and as a barn kitty that comes and goes at will in the country, there are all manner of possible predators and situations that may have happened

Barn Kitty and Calliby are there to greet me and the food every morning which is a bright spot but I did love my boy.

Aw, poor boy. I hope he isn’t gone, but if he is he was well-treated and knew he was loved.

The Not Knowing is worst :sleepy:
But do know you gave Silo (& his family) The Best Life.

It really is.

I dreamed he came home last night and I almost expected to see him when I went into the loft.

I guess it is possible he will be there one morning but I don’t have any real hope of that.

You never know.

My (fixed, male, chipped) ginger cat was an indoor-outdoor cat after he figured out how to use the dog door. The barn cat didn’t like having another cat in the barn, so he didn’t spend much time there. He mostly just wandered around elsewhere on the property, and turned up at dinner time. Every month or so he would disappear for 2 or 3 days, then show up again.

A couple of years ago, at the beginning of October, he disappeared and didn’t show up. We called the local rescues, and posted on the neighborhood Facebook group, to no avail.

We pretty much gave up.

The week before Christmas I was sitting down working on my computer when I felt a cat rubbing against my leg, and HE WAS BACK. A little thinner, but otherwise none the worse for wear.

Since then he has been an indoor-only cat, and doen’t seem to mind.

I had oe disappear for two weeks once. She came back thinner, but fine. Mine are all indoor/outdoor. I cannot keep them inside. they act very badly. Puddin didn’t want out for many years, but now she has taken to the back deck. She spends a lot of time there.

I hope Silo will come back. I remember your posting about him as a kitten, and whenever the word-puzzle game I play on my phone brings up the word Silo I think of your boy. Sending jingles and purrs and prayers.

Jingles for his return. I hope he’s just a little lost and will be back soon!

You never know. I’ve had ferals and semi-ferals disappear for days - sometimes weeks - and then show up for breakfast one day like nothing happened.

And then there was the one feral tom who stopped showing up (after 2 years of being there regularly). We figured he was dead after another month or so. Lo and behold, he’d gone a mile or so down the road and moved in with my great-aunt. A huge feral tom with no ears who - AFTER TWO YEARS - I was never able to touch, was suddenly sleeping on her bed and coming to the name Fluffy.

We had a cat who disappeared once. I didn’t put it together at the time but it was shortly after a stray dog showed up and we kept him.

It was several months and I never saw him and then after we cut the field next to the house for hay I was coming down the driveway and he was just sitting in the field. I went out and brought him back home. Told the dog that if he wanted to stay they must be able to co exist . They did!

So I will wait on Silo.

Yes. He lived his best life with her for a few more years before he developed renal failure and she had to put him to sleep. Huge ginger pillow, he was. She said he showed up right around the time he went missing from my house, ate with her outside cats for a few days, then just followed her inside and that was that.

Happy update !!

I have seen Silo twice this week. Way down the hill from the barn. I guess he is either just having a good time being " feral" or he is feral now .

I hope he will come back up the hill and live in the loft come cold weather.

From what I saw he looks just fine. Weight appears ok and he is clean and shiny.

He knows where the food & water is if he needs it.

I had a feral that would show up every winter for several years and then leave as soon as the weather got nice.

He was in the loft last night when I went up. There is a place the cats love where the barn roof overhangs and the lean to roof begins right below.

It is big enough that they can lay stretched out and get good air flow, it is cool and be protected from the elements all at the same time.

When I peeked I saw him way at the end ( his & Calliby’s favorite spot). I called him and he meowed but wasn’t budging. I was just happy he was actually there
