That’s what I was going to suggest. They may not lay right next to them, but the ice will chill the air in the crate a little, and they’ll be cooler.
We actually live down the hill from the barn right now but I want them to think of the barn as home because we will (eventually) live up at the house one day. I think taking her and the kittens out of the barn and into a completely new, unknown environment with 3 dogs is probably not in her/ kittens best interests.
Our 3 dogs have never been exposed to cats so the stress level on all of us would be too much to take .
I did add the box ( took out the crate) and the kittens were all sleeping in there this morning! I also got 2 tarps and covered the top of her enclosure with them and tied them down to hopefully help with the escape attempts and help her feel less vulnerable.
I checked her at noon and everyone was present and accounted for. It seems searching for kittens at 2:30 pm has become a daily occurrence and I hope it stops now…
The fan is doing a good job and since we have made it this far, I will just have to hope they continue to do alright.
Silo did great and he got fixed, a rabies shot, his ear notched and treated for ear mites and all it cost was $ 32. He was happy to be reunited with his family
@Grey_Dove032016 I am sorry you can’t see the pictures. I don’t know why ??
WEEK 4 !!
Another week has flown by! Thankfully the box and tarp covering the pen made a difference and everyone seems contented and is staying put so far!
Rufus & Calliby explore while Thomas & Jenny watch.
Something got Calliby excited, then she scampered over and attacked the box
Barn Kitty.
Such cuties! I love to watch kittens play!
She’s a pretty girl. And those babies
Thomas and Rufus are kittens with mittens&socks!
Calliby will be gorgeous when she’s all grown up.
I have a real hard time telling those 2 boys apart but every time I couldn’t find one it was Rufus. The last time she moved them ( Tues afternoon) I thought he was gone for good and I don’t think she even knew where he was now that they are mobile.
Don’t tell the other kittens, but Calliby is my favorite
Thomas seems to have longer mittens and socks than Rufus but it’s hard to tell for sure just seeing the photos.
Thank you so much for sharing your kitties with us. Barn Kitty is beautiful! And the kittens are darling. I love Jenny, I love blue cats.
OMGosh, Barn Kitty is gorgeous!
When I saw the pictures I thought the same as you but both boys have identical foot/ leg marking! If it wasn’t for that little bit of white on the tail end ( and it’s hard to see) I couldn’t be sure who is who.
I am sure they are tired of me grabbing them and flipping them every which way trying to find a difference
As personalities continue to emerge and they grow I am sure it will be easier.
Maybe you are close to me and a car ride is doable?? Jenny is a sweetheart!!
She really is. Despite her rough start she is sleek and soft and shiny and keeps herself so clean.
OK, let me try this again …
Thank you so much for thinking of me and Jenny. Unfortunately these days I have neither a car nor a place for another kitty. We are allowed only one animal per apartment here for some ridiculous reason. And my 17yo has already told me twice over the years that she does. NOT. want ANOTHER CAT in the place.
But thank you also for making me laugh at the idea of your flipping the boys around looking for distinguishing markings. I think you are right, as they grow up their purrsonalities will distinguish themselves.
Don’t count on it!
I think the egg split when Bird and Dizzy were conceived. They have very small and subtle physical differences but they need to be standing completely still to see them. Personality wise there are some differences and unless I’m paying close attention I don’t pick up on them. They walk, lay and sleep the same ways and walk in tandem when together. Bird has a bit of red on his nose and Dizzy has higher socks on his back legs. When they’re running around and getting into mischief it’s hard to see the differences to tell who is who. I’ve adapted to loudly saying, “Who is that?”, and both of them will stop dead in their tracks and look at me, then I know who the culprit is!
Did we already have this conversation? If we did I am sorry!
I did find that Thomas has a bigger orange marking on his back right foot( on the underside) . Rufus has one too but it is smaller
As of this morning BK has not tried to move the kittens and I am not getting as many knots in my stomach every time I go up the stairs into the loft.
I gave them a bigger box too and just used the same towel and was afraid that BK wouldn’t like the change but all is well and they have more room. It gets crowded in there when Silo decides to " stay over".
Week 5. I don’t see any real change except they move a lot quicker and make a beeline for me and the pen opening at every opportunity and they are eating food.
They seem small to me but they are active and have full tummies and are content and happy?
Jenny climbed up the wire and popped through( they can get through the squares) where the hay bales end. This might be a problem. I may have to use the rest of my chicken wire roll on the outside of the pen. Sigh.
No exciting pictures. I should have had my camera this morning as they were doing all manner of cute kitten things. I forgot to bring it
Rufus ( attacking the 2x4 pushing the roof up so I can stand up in there).
Silo ( he was visiting and did not want his picture taken). He looks possessed
I am glad you are so far away, as your Calliby is exactly what I wanted for my next cat… but DH is not a cat person so I am not sure I would stay married if I willingly went out and brought home a kitten.
They look great to me!
They look nice and healthy! So cute too!
She’s gorgeous, isn’t she?
Here is a quote from today’s page on my page-a-day calendar that a friend gave me for Christmas. I wish it had been the quote for a couple of weeks ago, but I want to share it here anyway because of our COTH kindles and their wonderful saviours –
“You’ve heard of a litter of kittens and maybe also a kindle of kittens. A lesser-known term for a group of kittens is an intrigue. This term likely became associated with kittens when the word entanglement was an accepted synonym for intrigue, since a rambunctious group of kittens definitely involves the entanglement of many tiny, fuzzy bodies.”
