Restaurants in Lexington?

I will be down in Lexington with 4 friends from Thurs to Mon morning. We will be doing horsey stuff. Keeneland Fri AM. Breeding farm tours, Clinton Anderson demo.

Does anyone have any suggestions on decent restaurants? I prefer to avoid chains that I can go to at home so no Applebees, Red Lobster ect… We are looking for something that is reasonably casual- capri’s and nice top. It can be a step up from Applebee’s/Red Lobster but not break the bank such as Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Local BBQ is fine for one night too.

I figured I would ask in Eventing since many people have been down to Rolex and would know the area.

Columbia’s steakhouse is a great local steak place. We like Jalapeno’s Mexican which is casual and quite good mexican food. Dudley’s is a great farm to table type of place http://www.dudleysrestaurant.com/menu/dinner.php. Table 310 is a small plates sort of place http://www.table-three-ten.com/menus/ with lots of specials.

I was introduced to Sav’s Grill in downtown Lexington. Fantastic food. Very casual.
Sam’s right up from KHP is iconic. Over Rolex, you can easily run into te lokes of Jimmy Wofford and many of the track people. Also casual.

If you like Indian food, there is a good restaurant out near Hamburg Place, just off Man O’War called Tandoor. This one is white tablecloth. Service isn’t the greatest, but the food is good.

There is also a pretty good Thai place in Georgetown near downtown.

This one is very basic but with good food.

When I go away from home, I always like to eat exotic (for me) food because I can’t get it here. In Memphis, I like to eat Ethiopian.

I’ve also gone to Bella Notte several times at Rolex. There is probably better Italian in Lexington.

The Village Idiot has gotten rave reviews recently.

Ditto Jalapeno’s Mexican! I stop there every time I’m in town. They are also very in touch with the horse community so you won’t get raised eyebrows if you show up in your riding clothes. Fantastic food.

When we go to Rolex, we always have dinner with family friends on Saturday night–our favorite place is a restaurant called Saul Good (believe it’s in Fayette Mall but don’t quote me). It’s got a good menu, pricewise it’s pretty reasonable, and the best part is the chocolate fondue for dessert…SO good.

Go to Malone’s and order the bottomless Lexingtonian salad. I honestly lived on that through the last three months of my pregnancy, and it was solely responsible for my happiness on some days

Try the Windy Corner Market for awesome sandwiches or creole, Wallace Station for the Friday night fish fry (and killer Bluegrass on the patio), Red State for good BBQ (don’t let the exterior fool you- it’s excellent), Atomic Café for great Carribean fare, and any if the restaurants in Midway. We’ve got lots of good local restaurants!

Loved the Atomic Cafe (and will go back again next year). Jalapeno’s was good as well.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I don’t have enough nights in the trip to try them all.

Tandoor is amazing
iChing and BDs Mongolian Grill are also awesome.

I LOVE Ramseys! great food -good beer- nommy pie

add to that The Grey Goose. Cute place, fun bar area and outdoor seating. There are three locations and we have been to both Paris and downtown Lexington.

Dudleys on Short (downtown) is a very good place and popular with the horse crowd, check the prices to make sure it’s not too high.

Huge second of Windy Corner Market if you don’t mind a drive.

Also Coles on Richmond Rd/Main St is very good.

I’m a local, and I adore Windy Corner. It’s only about 5 min from the horse park on the corner of Bryan Station and Muir Station, and the food is so yummy and fresh. Tons of unique dishes, homemade desserts, and a different special each day. Reasonable priced as well.

If you like Cajun food, my new addiction is Furlongs restaurant on West Tiverton off of Nicholasville. It is amazing, and the decor is racing all the way, with tons of cool pictures, and a barn door in the center. The crayfish etoufee is to die for! They have been around for years, closed due to a lawsuit over the naming rights, and just reopened this spring. Well worth the drive!

I second what FoxChaser said about Red State BBQ. It is very good and close to the KHP on Rt. 25.

Mancino’s for pizza and grinders if you feel so inclined. One in G’town, exit 125 across the freeway from FatKat’s, next door to the Kmart, another off Leestown Rd next to the Kroger.

I’ll second Ramsey’s. really good fried chicken

Love Village Idiot’s Mac n’ Cheese!

All of these places are great. Pazzo’s has good pizza if you are in the mood for that. Doodles does a decent breakfast, but it can be very busy on weekends and they are closed on Mon.

Lots of good suggestions, but I’ll add Nick Ryan’s in Downtown Lexington.
