Reviews ona 2+1 trailer?

I currently have a 2 horse Gore trailer with rear and front/side loading ramp that I adore. But the trailer is getting a little age on it (14 years). I also have 2 teenagers who ride and it comes up often that I’d like to take 3 horses somewhere. So I’m thinking of getting a 3 horse. I love the bit of extra room in the front of the 2 horse and I love being able to take the horses out the front (I almost always do). I don’t like a slant load. Not really crazy about having a much longer trailer. My truck is equipped for gooseneck hauling and I’m fine with it, just love the easy maneuverability of the 2h bumper pull.

For anyone with the 2+1 style, would you do it agan? Likes and dislikes?

Thanks!

Love, love, love our 4Star 2+1! So much more air flow with all the windows and lots of room for 3 horses or 1 or 2 and lots of stuff! The dressing room is smaller than our last slant load but with some downsizing I manage to pack all of our stuff for a 3-4 day show in it!

I have a custom Hawk built bumper pull 2+1 straight load rear and side ramp and a dressing room…I LOVE IT…While my 2500 HD is capapble of a goose neck I never liked the way they turn and cut corners…This rig hauls like a dream, is super nice to work out of, park, back up, hitch up…and the horses love it…There are 2 rear stalls and full stallion gates at their heads…If I had it to do over again I would modify the location of stallion gates to make front box bigger…but a 16.2 TB fits there just fine and he likes to ride on a slant head in right rear corner…Its on a TB model platform not the wider WB…which my 2 horse is…I really wouldn t want it any wider…Highly recommend…Yes I would buy another in a heart beat…

I bought a Gore 2+1 after having a Hawk BP and and an Older All Aluminum Custom Fab 4 Horse Slant. The trailer is incredibly well built for the money. I looked at other makers; 4Star, Adams, Shadow, etc. I chose Gore due to construction, the longevity of their trailers, and excellent customer service. I purchased directly from Jackson Gore my trailer having only seen pictures (they delivered it to me) and even got him to add a removable stud divider. The trailer is aluminum frame with exception on the gooseneck which is steel for strength. The fiberglass roof, white skin and insulation keeps the trailer cool even in 95+ degree weather. I also wanted a wood floor, I feel horses ride better on it. Gore’s standard box length up front is bigger than most competitors. The trailer did take a bit of getting used to as far as added length, it’s about 10ft bigger than my 4horse. It can feel like a beast in tight places.

Hey if you get some time I would love to see a pic of your trailer. I am in the market and a bumper pull 2+1 is exactly what I want but no one seems to make them, so I guess custom is how I need to go too.

I have one, it is the best trailer ever. I am so happy with the layout.

A 2+1 GN is my dream trailer, just a bit bigger than my 2H straight load yet oh so versatile!

Saw it. Very cool. I was worried it would be too long but it looks like it is perfect. Do you know how much the weight came out to?

I love my 4 Star. But if I was going to haul a large-ish horse in the box, go custom and get the box made a little larger than stock.

Love my 2+1. I’m not sure what my nervous nelly likes so much about it, but she is much happier riding in that trailer than my 2 horse bp

RedRyderKy - I’m surprised that the trailer is that much longer than your 4h slant! Just a little bit of looking and I saw one 2+1 that said it was 22’ long (assuming this is the box only. That’s only about 5’ longer than my current 2h. And half as long as my 4h with LQ (that’s really a pain in tight places, only take it certain places).

I have an Adam 2 + 1 gooseneck with a dressing room. Yes it is long, but I find a gooseneck more maneuverable as you can make a tighter turn to get into smaller places. It’s a pain to back up so I try to avoid situations where I need to do that and I do have to swing a bit wide for turns. I have 9 feet in front of the stud doors which a horse could ride in comfortably slantwise. I never use my rear ramp but use my side ramp for loading and unloading. This way I can do my horse by myself. When I get to my destination I pull her forward and crossed by her in the plus one part. I work out of my dressing room to check her up and I can go to the show and exit my trailer fully dressed including my horse with no help. In my opinion the Adam was the best value for the money. Love love love my 2 + 1. The trailer is 23 feet on the floor with a 7 foot goose.

I love my 2-hr straight load gooseneck from EquiSpirit but one day I’m gonna trade up to their 2+1. Exquisitely built.

I had a 2+1 for a while and enjoyed having the extra room especially when we were working off the trailer for the day or on a long trip when we were bringing a lot of stuff - the side ramp into that front area was great storage for a bunch of hay bales, or the Gator, etc. However, I only have 2 horses and never used it for 3.

I sold it a few years ago when I wasn’t using it much and thought I would get another one when I replaced it last year with a new trailer. Nope, got myself regular 2H GN (admittedly with a big dressing room) and was surprised at how much nicer/easier it was to drive. I did not expect that relatively modest amount of length to make as big of a difference as it does. I really love my current set up and wouldn’t go back - so I’d say, just do enough of a test drive to make sure that you are comfortable with it. It may work just fine for you and having that extra stall may be terrific. For my needs, I greatly prefer the shorter rig.

The farm I board at has a 2+1 (no dressing room as it has gate that closes the gooseneck area). I LOVE IT. If I ever hit the lottery or find a man to finance my horse endeavors, this will be my first purchase.

I joke with my SO that he should ditch the (4) trailers he has for his toys and we can share (wink wink).

I have a Balanced Ride 2+1 that I love! I did have extra length added to the dressing room (along with a/c, 110v) with the idea I may convert it to a weekender in the future.

I’ve talked to several people with a 2+1 who fox hunt or event and they like the box in front for trailering in to shows where they don’t have a stall - especially when it’s raining - you can tack your horse in the box and stay out of the rain until you have to get out in it

I also have my trailer set for optimal flexibility - it is a rear riding trailer (horses ride backwards- walk in the side and out the back), but the divider can be changed so the horses ride forward (like other people’s trailers).

I’ve had a Horton 2H sxs and a Hawk 3H slant load with weekender in the past. The Balanced Ride is a really nice trailer and has extra reinforcing steel under the axles. I loved my Hawk, but really love my BR.

If you’re curious to see a Balanced Ride, I am in Aiken and would be glad to show it to you. It’s not for sale, but sometimes it helps to see a trailer in person. Drop me a PM if you would like to come by - Columbia is not far.

My trailer is similar to this: http://www.balancedridetrailers.com/Page.aspx?id=horse-gooseneck-dress23

I have (the same/similar) Balanced Ride 2+1 as the previous poster. Best trailer I’ve ever owned. Mine will be for sale, as unfortunately I will need something larger for multiple carriages.

The horses LOVE riding facing backwards. I have a horse who used to flat panic trailering alone…he practically snoozes through trips. My mare who hadn’t trailered for years and used to tear her own body apart on straight loads, slant loads and even in box stalls? Hauled like an angel. There’s tons of light and tons of air flow. The workmanship is top-notch and it pulls like a dream.

Another vote for Equispirit. Nothing better in my book and their 2+1 is Fab. Actually, I think they originated the design.

I have a Hawk 2+1. Hawk was the mfg of the original Equispirit 2+1 and when the two companies parted company Hawk continued to use their design. Great design! I had wanted an Equispirit but I got a deal on the Hawk and I am happy with it. The trailer pulls so well that I don’t notice it’s there except for the extra grunt that the truck uses going uphill.

A gooseneck tows a bit differently from a bumper pull but it’s not any more difficult; just, well different.

Mine has rumber flooring so I never have to worry about rotting floorboards. It has fans for each horse, lights inside and on the back for unloading, too. Electric motor to raise & lower the tongue – no cranking, what luxury. And a 20 gal water tank under the goose with a motor for a sprayer, and awning. And the inside camera is mounted so all three horses can be seen at once. All the comforts of home.

When only hauling 2 horses there’s so much room to keep all the hay, bedding and other stuff under cover and locked up. Absolutely wonderful trailer and relatively compact considering all the internal space.
