Maggie is wise and brave beyond her years. Unspeakable trauma means she has much to grieve, but she has so, so much to be proud of as well. I am truly in awe of her and how she has spoken out and stood up for herself. I think anyone who has ever been a victim of sexual assault/abuse, especially those who didn’t ever feel safe enough to tell their story to anyone and still carry it inside, will be able to understand that on a deep level. What a courageous young lady.

Chills! To Maggie and Carrie - there are not words for how incredibly brave I think you both are for doing this. It’s clear you are an incredible young woman with the world in front of her. If you were my daughter, I would feel so proud of you. I hope this is just a step on your path forward and that you will enjoy all the success in wherever life takes you.

Amazing video. Kudos to Maggie for having the strength to put her story out there for all to see. So many people, including me have stuffed things down for too long now. It took me decades to share my story with friends and family, so I know it doesn’t come easy. You are appreciated and it will definitely help others to feel like they are not alone in this and maybe prevent someone from falling for the same crap.

Perhaps fallout reputation for the ‘sins of the father’?

It’s happened before to other well known equestrians.

Just a guess at what was inferred, of course.

Thank you so much! This means so much!

Thank you so much! We really hope to help so many women! Also, I think just openly talking about it has helped our family so much and it really is something that needs to be openly talked about!

Why on earth would you post the victim’s name here??

Commonly known fact. I find it interesting you ask that. Reading through many chronicle forums I haven’t witnessed any respect for the privacy of anyone whether the posts are correct or just drama someone comes up with. It seems to me that these forums are nothing more than the horse industry’s version of the National Enquirer, fueled by people that have nothing else tp do with their lives.

If you don’t grasp the concept of respecting the privacy of a victim of sexual assault, regardless of what others might post, I will not be able to explain it to you.

Why are you here?

@skydy makes an excellent point.

@oreo_mom,

I had to read that twice to make sure I read it correctly.

That is perhaps the most digusting, sexist, victim blaming thing that I have ever read, and unfortunately, that’s a really tough competition to win.

What, in the name of all that’s good and holy, is wrong with you?

Why would you believe that young women and men ask to be sexually abused in the hope of receiving financial compensation somewhere down the road?

Even if that disgusting scenario were true, the actual adult predator still makes the decision to sexually assault a victim unable to consent.

@MHM,

I agree, for most trolls and contrarians. I have three people on ignore right now and it’s made my forum life easier.

But that statement by oreo_mom is so outrageous and so offensive I can’t ignore or scroll by or let it go unchallenged. I know the poster is known for being outrageous, but suggesting abuse victims willingly participated in their own abuse and exploitation in the hopes of financial gain later is completely beyond the pale.

I’m outraged that more people aren’t outraged.

I admit that I did not say anything because I assumed I was not reading their post right, that there was no way it could possibly be saying what I thought I was reading.

I’m glad I don’t know who you are irl or I would probably do something that would not be wise. To suggest that any victim of sexual assault, but especially an underage victim, allows themselves to be mistreated in expectation of financial gain leaves me speechless.

To victims - I apologize for anyone who doesn’t believe you and please know that I will always believe in you and stand up for you.

I’m sure OM believes they are oh-so-clever in equating underage victims with adult gold diggers or worse, prostitutes. It’s as if minors at an equestrian facility are somehow-- between their riding lessons and tack cleaning-- devising schemes on how to attract and then blackmail their horse trainers. :roll_eyes:

I grew up in the Jimmy Williams era and milieu, and OM’s remark proves once again that a lot of people in the horse world still view the issue of “men” (and I use that term loosely) in the horse world preying on their minor students as deserving nothing more than some hushed whispers and a sarcastic snicker.

It is possible to be outraged without feeding a troll.

Especially when the troll only posts on one subject, and seemingly only to provoke outrage.

This is not a criticism of those who choose to respond, just a note that others may be outraged without posting a response.
