Yea I don’t think SS can do anything if the offender isn’t attending rated shows… which is an whole other issue.

They can, but this all relates to usef membership and eligibility. So if the person is a member, they can obviously prohibit that person from being a member/participating, and can also prohibit other members from doing related business with that person, ie members hosting the george clinic. Is it sufficient? No. But we’ve decided against other less civilized means of enforcement

I understand that however there are abusive trainers at every level whether they’re a backyard trainer or a BNT. The severely underprivileged youth are less likely to be training with a BNT who attends rated shows. They’re more likely to be training with the backyard trainers and there’s no governing body overseeing their conduct which once again puts underprivileged kids at a greater risk of abuse.

Obviously safesport is a great and much needed start, but we are kidding ourselves if we think abuse in our sport just happens with trainers attending rated shows.

Call the police. Easy. Done

Better yet leave the trainer. Years of abuse seems to be an issue. Walk away

What an unempathetic, privileged response.

Edit- I know the “p word” tends to make cothers clutch their pearls but that’s exactly what this attitude is. It is a privilege to think it’s as simple as just calling the police if you’re being abused.

What exactly are the police supposed to do about a trainer being a jerk? I don’t think there are any laws against jerk-ness.

And the police are not really trained to deal with emotionally abusive trainers. Or with getting kids to discuss sexual assault. As a community, we need to figure out better ways of controlling our worst members without constantly expecting the police to be able to do this. It just puts more on Police departments that could be better handled in other ways, like a licensing system for professional trainers, much like other sports have. Then the perps can be stopped without having to escalate to the police, just like happens with other professionals.

If there is someone give me the number because I for one have some calls to make.

Exactly and mental/ emotional abuse/ bullying is still a huge problem even if it’s not technically illegal.

Yes, I think this is prevalent in the horse world because in part, the trainers are used to bossing around big creatures, and they just end up doing that some thing to people too. I have noticed that some trainers who are not nice to horses are the same with people.

Are you intellectually incapable of complex thought or have you just decided it’s easier to go through life not giving two turds about other people?

Trolls deserve our pity, just my advice. Ignore and move on.

Because SC drives a hard bargain…

“It’s verbal assault”

Do you mean that that is the safesport infraction?

No, definitely not  At least that’s not what I I was saying, but it’s possible SS is saying that.

And now for some good news: outside our insular equestrian world, there does exist an organization with a different motivation than AES. How about speaking up for the abused athletes? A legitimate 501c3 organization. The Army of Survivors:
