RID/ 1/2 RID stallions for TB mare? Now talking individual stallions

My friend has a Banks Fee Daniel/TB cross who she really enjoys. He has hunted, and has no problem going forward.

Look at the websites for Bridon Beale Street and KEC Double Diamond. You may have to look around and figure out what you like in a stallion. My younger daughter has a Snowford Bellman/TB cross. She loves him, as does everyone who sees him. I won’t ride him as he has a little spook, can be a bit forward, and I am 60 years old and timid. My Glenlara RID is extremely sensible and perfect for me.

My horse is by To Be Sure by Mountain Pearl (now back in Ireland).
Without exception, these horses have the best temperaments, willing and kind.
Sound and non-spooky…if that is one of your priorities. check his website.

Meadow36, I like your taste in horses. Those are some nice stallions. (I just don’t prefer warmblood minds). Flagmount Freedom Is lovely.

I saw a nice stallion recommended in another thread called Kilkelly All’s Well. He is also 1/2 TB. Well bred TB.

Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

I think Kilkelly’s All’s Well was gelded and possibly sold. Might still have frozen.

Take a look at Cleveland Bays as well. There are a few pure CBs in the US as well as a couple of x-breds who stand in Maryland perhaps. The CB x TB crosses make excellent foxhunters as well as event horses, but they are scarce as hens teeth. In the beginning, the CB was used to create the Holsteiner all round horse.

You also ought to look as Pallas Dignion, who is the sire of the British/Irish horse with the second most lifetime BE points–Springalong Time who was written by Daisy Dick, IIRC. He stands at Acorn Hill, so fresh chilled is possible from him.

One pure sport TB has Phyliis Dawson as agent–Orujo de la Galerna (or something very like that). He’s lovely.

But for good brain and size, look to Irish or Cleveland Bay. EMCO has frozen semen from a couple of Cleveland Bays if you can’t run down stallions in the US.

Snowford O’Donnell has some really nice sport horse offspring. There is no problem with a go-button. They are very strong and forward, but have amazing minds and willing temperaments. They are also extremely brave.

Thanks VineyRidge. I’ll check out the CB as well.

The mare is Heir of Mystery. She is by the same stallion as Theodore O’Connor the wonder pony. I adore her.

Pallas Dignion is a nice horse. Fresh has benefits…

More beautiful choices. Good thing spring isn’t here for a while!

Definitely consider Flagmount Freedom if you want more of a go button. While grey himself, he is not homozygous and has certainly proven himself in the breeding shed. His owner is a vet and very nice.

I almost booked my TB mare to FF this year, but I wanted more substance and more of the draft cross mindset. I own three draft crosses and they have the loveliest dispositions as I too am just not crazy about the warmblood brain. I wound up going with Crystal Crest who is a silver merit RID imported from Ireland in 2012 and currently residing with Andrew Palmer at Royal Palm. He is by Coolcronan Wood and a grandson of both Sea Crest and Mountain View. He is grey, but also not homozygous, tall at 17hds, with good substance but not as heavy as some RIDs. His fee to non RID mares is $800.

Crystal Crest is very nice!

Having been down the road of the warmblood inspections, and previously breeding JC TB’s, where are we registering these horses? Some of these stallions I am not seeing on the IDHS US rosters, so are they PHR?

I’m not breeding for sale anymore, just for myself. But I would like to be able to prove parentage if I had to sell.

PHR or American WB are probably the most common if you want registration for Flagmount Freedom, Pallas Diagon etc

Another one if you want more go and some WB is Hi-Fi - this is the ad they have on FB
Now accepting bookings for 2015 Breeding season
Grogan’s High Fidelity (HiFi) is a RIDSH stallion by Snowford Bellman RID (class 1) out of Reilly’s Fianna RIDSH by First Class, Oldenburg. HiFi is a stunning boy with a willing to please attitude. He passes on a great scope when jumping and big movement! For more information pictures or video please contact Caitlyn Smith at (540)4474091 or Jesse Lowry-Phillips at (540)4474425. He is currently standing at Ponies on the Hill

Another to say you really cant go wrong with a bit of Irish, imo. I’m knowledgeable about the UK and Irish stallions rather than the US though so unless you were after importing semen I wouldnt be much help, so just a thumbs up for the ID/IDSH from me

Flagmount Freedom is registered PHR.

I did check with the IDHSA and Crystal Crest is on their stallion roster and a RID/TB foal by him can be registered ISH with them. http://www.irishdraught.com/

I went to go see Teddy’s sire when a friend was thinking of breeding to him (before Teddy got famous), all I could think was WOW when I saw him. She ended up not breeding and I could have shaken her for not going for it.

I bred my TB/Holsteiner mare (very TB but with more bulk) to Bridon Beale Street last year and got a filly I am very happy with out of her. I wanted something I could do anything with and have FUN with… sound and sane! The mare really wants for nothing athletically but lacks a bit in the brains/attitude, so all I was looking for was a good mind that wouldn’t screw anything else up, I am also ridiculously anti-gray and simply ruled those stallions out. Bridon Beale Street is by Mountain Pearl and everyone raves about his mind and temperament. BBS went up to intermediate eventing without a cross country refusal, sounds like a solid citizen.
I can’t look at the filly with any objectivity at all, and at this age it’s so hard to tell anything, BUT she’s nice. Girl has got a big engine in the back and is solid and big. I was stunned at the size of her joints when she was coming out of the mare, she’s going to be massive. Her feet are still those of a foal, but are showing the potential to be dinner plates.
When I was looking I had it down to KEC Double Diamond, BBS and Steeped in Luck, who I really liked as well.

Fun is definitely high on my list of attributes right now.

I spoke with my vet a little about it this morning. She of course reminded me that fresh is so much easier, and frozen is quite a bit of work. Though I know that I have a couple of good choices for clinics here in NOVA.

I think I need to decide if I want to go for a 1/2TB or a 3/4TB. I’m thinking I have two more horses in my future, so if I went for a 3/4 TB this time around, and I got a filly, I could breed that to a full RID for a 5/8 RID for my golden years…

That might be a plan. But maybe not. I e-mailed to find out if there was still frozen from Kilkelly’s All’s Well. I like him. His RID sire caught my eye in the directory. And his TB breeding is really good. Like my mare’s.

Anyone know anything about King’s Ransom? He is a 1/2 TB stallion by Flagmount King. And not gray

We had one like that last year, an absolute beast, lol. Hoping for the same again this coming year.

Yeah For frozen! Kilkelly’s All’s Well’s owner wrote me back with the breeding contract.

At the moment, I think I like him best.

I am of no help in the stallion dept, but as an owner of two Irish bred horses and a Connemara pony…you just cannot go wrong. I am thinking of breeding my full Irish draught mare next season, so it will be nice to follow this thread!

Lovely choice. I’m hoping to get something much like him out of my TB mare and Crystal Crest and would in fact, love a big grey. Best of luck to you and to me both!

Ozzie will give you a nice baby! I was going to suggest him, but am glad to see you already found him (and there’s frozen left!). I used to work at that farm and knew him when he was younger, he is a lovely horse and quality, quality, quality. Moves great and jumps well, forward but not hot. If you’re looking for a good 3/4 TB baby, I think you made the right choice.

We also had a RIDSH mare by Bank’s Fee Daniel, and she was my favorite. Outstanding brain, versatile, gorgeous, and fun to ride. I don’t think you can go wrong there either.
