RID/ 1/2 RID stallions for TB mare? Now talking individual stallions

Gone Away- ugh, you are killing me here! LOL

All day long I go back and forth- 3/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1/2. If I love Kilkelly’s All’s Well, should I breed to him, or breed like him? 3/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1/2…

Right now I’m swinging back to Bank’s Fee Daniel, in hopes of producing a horse like All’s Well.

I’m no breeding expert and I’m also not an RID/RIDSH guru either, but per your original post, it sounds like you’d like to produce something that gives the old school, well built and sturdy TB feel. Based on what you said, I’d recommend you stick with Ozzie (All’s Well) as I think the baby would be that nice moving, athletic TB-type get with some substance.

As much as I loved Faith, the RIDSH mare by BFD, she was not the better mover or jumper next to Ozzie. I think you need to clarify what you’d really rather have, 3/4 vs 1/2 bred. I worked with these two when they were young and just coming undersaddle, I’m pretty sure Oz matured over 17hh and Faith was pretty close around 16.3-ish. Their mom was the same TB mare. Good luck, I’m excited for you either way!

GoneAway- I really appreciate that insight. And you coming back to give it to me.

I do want that old school sturdy TB. It’s not having any experience with the ROD/RIDSH that is giving me the fits. Ozzie is a really nice type of horse and he suits my mare really well.

I think I am back to Ozzie. I also think I am going to see if the owner will let me visit (I don’t live that far from her) Because that will probably settle the whole thing.

An RID stallion I really like (who is owned by friends) is Steeped In Luck, located in Ontario. He is a lovely horse, beautiful temperament with a very good show record in dressage.
I have seen a number of youngsters by him out of TB mares and they are very nice.
I recommend having a look at him.

I love my halfbred mare. She is sired by an RID and out of a tb/Connemara cross. She did end up short, her dam was small. I personally love the halfbreds I have seen. They seem to have the Irish mind, in a lighter package. There are so many nice stallions to choose from, and there are some really nice non grey. I might breed my purebred mare next spring, but am trying to decide between breeding a purebred Irish draught or a halfbred. So I understand why you are having a hard time deciding! As far as purebred stallions go, I love Steeped in Luck. I have seen two very nice halfbreds out of a tb mare, sired by Touch Of the Blues, they were both outstanding.

Steeped in Luck is a wonderful sire as well. We had 2 colts by him 1 pure ID one out of a TB. Chestnut is out of the TB https://www.facebook.com/178919629890/photos/pcb.10152383547929891/10152383547794891/?type=1&theater

Another not listed as he was for sale but is RIDSH and now sold to a breeding owner is Jack of Hearts out of a Selle Francais mare by GP jumper King of Hearts. He will be standing in MT http://www.klearyfield.com/jackofhearts.html

We’ve got a lovely ID filly by TOTB out of a Diamond Lad mare and I cant say enough good things about her. Will definitely be using TOTB again.

Juanty Star is a Silver Merit, Class1 RID. He is eventing at Prelim   So he definitely has the motor you want, the nice gaits, the mind. And he ships fresh too. Here is his link: http://www.dkhirishdraughtsporthorses.ca/stallions/

Steeped in Luck, Gold Merit, Class1 RID is lovely and if you ever needed to sell the foal, the resale value should be very good as he is doing PSG and that always brings more money to the table.

Lionwood Kinsale’s Lad, Gold merit, Class1 RID is also doing FEI dressage / Intermediare I, I believe.

TOTB is just simply amazing and I highly recommend him as well!

Kind Regards

Here’s a pic of my 5 month old filly by Bridon Beale Street. Dam is 16.1 standing next to her.

Pretty baby!

I have a 2yr old by King’ Ransom and 2 TB mares in foal to him for 2015 foals. He’s a lovely stallion who adds size, bone , excellent feet and an AMAZING brain to his offspring. They’re very athletic as well. He’s a stallion that is under utilized and not known but he is worth looking at!! His owner is also great to deal with. Definitely check this stallion out!!

Anyone know anything about King’s Ransom? He is a 1/2 TB stallion by Flagmount King. And not gray :)[/QUOTE]

Here’s a photo of my 2yr old gelding ‘Rian’ by King’s Ransom, out of a TB mare. This gelding is 3/4 TB 1/4 ID. Very athletic, great conformation, and great brain! Definitely a stallion worth breeding to!

I’ve liked the look of King’s Ransom too.
Something that appeals to me is that his damsire, Kennedy Road xx is from the same female family as A Fine Romance’s dam.

Kennedy Road produced good sporthorses…

I ABSOLUTELY love TOTB’s!! We bought a 1/2 TB, ISH colt by TOTB’s as a breeding stallion and got two fantastic foals out of two different mares…one big TB and one “WB looking” paint mare, before we decided to cut back to one TB stallion, geld Seattle Blues and turn him into my riding horse. He has been wonderful as a riding horse and the two foals by him sold as a yearling and two year old to a woman from Colorado for VERY substantial prices. Now I’m sorry I didn’t freeze semen!! I don’t know anyone who is unhappy with their TOTB’s horses!! Ours have the looks, movement and brains people want!!

Our 2 yr old TOTB is one of my very favourites crosscreek, looking forward to seeing her mature. This fillys half-sister is in foal to a TOTB son right now so we are awaiting that one with interest too.

I am breeding CB x TB crosses near Frederick, Maryland and have a 3/4 Cleveland Bay x TB stallion who is producing wonderful young stock. His name is Belladonna Quasar and you can see some of my horses on the Magnific Sporthorses page on Facebook. His oldest are only 3 years old, but developing into very nice young horses. Quasar’s sire (now deceased) has produced numerous foxhunters and eventers. The dam line is also full of athletes, including horses that competed to 4th level dressage and Prelim level eventing. They all seem to have foxhunting in their genes.

I would really like to encourage the Cleveland crosses. There are also a number of proven purebred Cleveland Bay stallions in our Mid-Atlantic region.

We own a Irish Draught/TB cross by Snowford’s Bellman & out of a Rock Point TB mare. I think the TB got a little lost somewhere along the line…he’s a big sturdy 17.1 hands. Personally, if you are looking for a “go” type horse, you may want to think about 3/4 TB instead of 1/2. Ours is just a sample of one, but he is a laid-back “push” ride. Not my type of ride at all, as I also like a bit more self-initiative in a horse, but fortunately he is my son’s horse, who likes him quite a bit:

Our Horse

Gee- good thing I started this hunt now. Everyone knows about such lovely horses.

Little late to this thread but I’ll cast my vote into the Dandelion Diamond Rebel hat if you don’t mind a grey! I have a 6 year old 17hh ISH mare by him that is just lovely! She is that go ride you are looking for but will stay in whatever pace you set her in. I show her in the 3’ adult amateur hunters currently. We have 3 really big local associations around here. She is leading 1 and in second in the other two for year end awards so far. Great mind! Loves a job and loves to please!!

Here she is for you to see. I’ve known many of her siblings…they are all very similar.

(Sorry she is tinted a little yellow in the above…it suddenly got cold on the day we planned on taking them and they weren’t for anything important!!)

I swore I would never own a grey or a mare…got a grey mare…haven’t looked back since! It’s just a little extra work if your really serious about getting them white and a nice sheet to keep them clean at the show. Oh and Vetrolin Shine - those green spots slide off!!
