Is there a confident intermediate to experienced rider, H/J or dressage background, who would like more saddle time in central Iowa, west of Des Moines? Have a horse who just needs some consistent saddle time that we can’t provide right now. PM for details.
Buffalo, NY mini mare seeking attention
rider-less…well attention deprived 2 year old mini mare looking for someone that would love to spend some time with her. Great driving prospect. Free lease, possible give away to the right home.
Horseless rider in NYC
My childhood BFF (who is not a COTHer, btw) is looking for a horse to ride or lease somewhere in the NY area that won’t cost her a firstborn in toll fees. She’s in Brooklyn and would be game for just about anything. She has a strong background in hunters with plenty of experience in problem ponies and horses. She rode and competed regularly through her junior years and largely stopped riding after the loss of her beloved mare to colic. She still rides occasionally, either in Central Park or when she’s visiting family down south. I’d consider her a bit rusty, but entirely competent and offer her my bratly gelding every time she’s back home in NC. She’s ~5’5" and quite fit so should work for just about anything large pony and up. Please PM me here or email me at jenstout.nc@gmail.com. Thanks!
Horseless in Columbia SC
Im a college student looking for more ride time- I’ve never owned a horse so I’ve had to rely on lessons alone for riding. I’m currently under a dressage trainer but fairly new to English riding (rode western for most of my teenage years.) I’m at that point where I just need more hours in the saddle to implement and practice what I absorb in lessons. So no crazy untrained 3-yr olds please Maybe just a horse I can exercise a few times a week. Anything in the Cola area would work; Camden, unfortunately, is a little too far.
Northern Virginia stay home horseless Mom/rider with 20+ years riding experience with two kids in elementary school. I live in Virginia zip code 20120. Started HJ in the early years, good fundamentals in dressage, now a hopeful Eventer (when the horse and the day comes). In short, I have a good seat, soft hands, confident, no nonsense good horse sense. While kids are in school, I have two or three days during the week where I have time to ride (3 or 4 hour window per day, during the week. No weekends, that is family time). If anyone has horses that need exercise/work during the week to make your weekend rides more sane (and to keep horses fit), please contact me. Tried the group lesson route, it wasn’t for me; had a lease for the past few months, but it was way too far away in Faquier County from where I live in Centreville, VA, had to drop it recently to maintain sane balance in the Mom/family/rider routine.
Skilled enough to barter my riding skills for straightforward saddle time, but can only do it during the week, between 9 am and 1 pm. If you don’t want any unsupervised jumping done, that’s fine, but also happy to work ground poles, cavalettis, gymnastics, etc. Also happy to just hack out on the flat. I just need saddle time, but can’t manage a lease or my own horse at the moment, with kids, Mom routine, etc. Able to drive to Haymarket, Aldie, Middleburg, etc. Non-smoking, fit (145 lbs, can ride ponies), drama free, I just want/need to ride. Riding only, not enough time to include barn work. PM me.
Riderless horse in Hillsborough, NC
I had found a COTHer to half-lease my gelding, but she fell in total LOFF with a mare owned by my BO, so I’m looking again for a half-leaser. 16h, coming 15yo Appendix. Big bodied, small brained. He’s cute, lovely mover, super sweet, but lacks confidence which sometimes manifests itself exuberantly. Not malicious or devious! Spent many years as a pasture ornament, now in training to be a lower-level eventer. Strongly prefer someone who is quiet, but confident. I trust him giving pony rides to total newbies, but on XC, needs someone who doesn’t get ruffled by head tossing, general brain dis-engagement, or occasional other disobediences. Not dangerous, just worries. Super dooper honest to fences and LOVES to jump. He’s a round, enthusiastic jumper, so needs someone who is balanced and quiet. I swear he’s not crazy! He’s just a work in progress. Feel free to search my posts here (name is Gus) and you will learn more than you ever needed to know.
He’s boarded at a small, privately owned facility north of Hillsborough (4 horses total). Would love to find someone who would be willing to ride 2-4x week in exchange for minor barn chores or minor expenses (like shoes). Nightly feed, water trough check, blanketing, and very occasional stall mucking. No need to do chores if you’re not planning to ride. Or if you have availability during the day, then consider mucking the paddocks immediately adjacent to the barn. Truly minimal labor. PM me for details or email me at jenstout.nc@gmail.com.
Underemployed horses in SE PA
I have a number of American Saddlebreds who would love to have more work to do! Some are fairly green-- some made, and quiet, and some are finished, but more in need of experienced riders, because of their level of energy. ALL are sweet, well mannered and loving.
A couple of these guys would be available for free lease- one would make a lovely foxhunter.
Shoot me a PM!
Thanks!
Horseless Rider- Montgomery County, MD
This is a bit early, but I thought i’d put some feelers out there to see if anyone might have something like this available in the future. I am a junior rider and own my own horse but always love to expand my horizons and get on other things. Ideally i’d be looking for something to ride a few times a week starting in the summer, but if you need someone now, I could probably get out a little bit. (just busy because of school!) I would say I am an intermediate rider with soft hands and a pretty good base. I’m fine with something a little bit green and love riding the ponies! (I’m 5’0). Let me know if you ever need an exercise rider in the MD/VA area and i’d love to talk with you.
Horseless Rider - Palm Desert, CA
Leaping out of lurkerdom in hopes that someone might have some underemployed horses down in the sunshine -
I live normally up in Washington state, and I work as an assistant trainer at a H/J barn, so I am a fairly advanced rider. But I am headed down to the desert from mid-January through late April and am worried about getting out of shape (particularly since my barn comes down for Thermal about a month after I get there).
I also have some basic dressage training, though it’s not my main discipline, and am good with young and green horses. I would be more than thrilled with any opportunity to ride while I am there.
Thanks!

Hello my name is Rachel Burger I am currently a college student at Stetson University. I am 20 years old with many years of riding experience in both H/J and Dressage. As I am 20 this is the last year I can compete in Jr Olympics so I am looking for a horse to lease that is at level PSG or higher and after reading your post I thought perhaps you may have a horse available.
Thank you for your time in reading my message, my email is reiburger@live.com

Riderless Horses in Athens, GA area
I have two horses that need a rider near Athens, GA.
First horse needs a more experienced rider. Eleven year old 16.1hh OTTB gelding. Gorgeous movement, needs a more confident rider. Doesn’t bolt or run away with anyone. More of a kick ride.
Second horse is a very sweet 15.2hh Lippizan cross mare, trained to first level dressage and loves to jump. Suitable for most any rider.
Looking for someone who can come out on a more regular schedule, and help with a few barn chores in exchange for ride times or lessons.
4 horses one me - need help!
Have about 20yrs under belt . Have had to take some time off due to children, health ( which is all good right now).
I have ridden dressage and hunters. Willing to do either but would pefer dressage type until I get my balance and ability back.
Thanks.
I know I’m not what you’re looking for, but I’m in Northern Delaware, Ohio and have a 4 year old just coming home from trainer, 5 year old started on trails and a 14 year old (30 year old that’s retired). Quarter horses - not hunter/jumpers. I have a nice round pen and open pasture plus trails on property. Not fancy but horses are healthy, loved and need ridden. I work full time for a horse feed company and just don’t have the time to keep them ridden. I need someone to motivate me - I’m 58 and can’t keep up but don’t want to give up my horses. I can keep up with the barn work just fine, its the riding. I have both english and western tack. You can e-mail me at ednalmorris@gmail.com
Horseless Re-rider in Chester County, PA Area
Thought I would put this out there in the hopes that someone has some nice horses sitting around looking for a job
I'm an adult re-rider, never out of the horseworld, but been a few years since I have had a regular horse to ride since my TB retired. I grew up riding H/J, but dabbled in eventing, hunting, and dressage....so, I'm happy riding most types, and don't mind the young ones as long as they have a good temperament.
I’m happy to travel within @ 1hr of the West Chester, PA area, but closer is better with the price of fuel!
If you have a horse that needs a job, I'm the girl :)
I’ve got an 8 (soon to be 9) y.o 16.1hh TB gelding that needs more work in Middleboro (possibly moving to Plympton) MA - about 45 min south of Boston.
I’m building back up to H/J but he benefits a lot from dressage too. No outdoor courses to do eventing. There is an indoor and unfenced outdoor.
He needs a confident rider with a strong seat and legs and soft hands. At least intermediate but preferably advanced rider.
Also have a 12.3 pony mare - she’s 27 but acts 12. She could use a petite (120lb limit) intermediate rider 1x a week - just hacking probably but she LOVES to jump! Due to her age, max height for jumps would be 2’6.
Please let me know if you think you might be a good fit for either!
