Soon-to-be-horseless rider!
I’m moving to Omaha, Nebraska for dental school in two weeks. Going to be looking for something to ride. I have 16 years’ experience in h/j, equitation, and eventing (as well as western horsemanship, but that’s too tough on my post-op back these days). Been working as a groom for three horses who do the AO jumpers, traveling to some pretty major shows along the east coast, and recently have been working to bring a former GP jumper back from a check ligament injury.

I’m not looking for any really time-consuming work since I’m sure I will have my hands more than full with school, but I’m willing to trade for saddle time. I follow directions well and can ride your horses however you want.

I can provide references, too.

Hi, I’m looking for a horse to hack around and jump a bit. I’m an intern at the The Chronicle in Middleburg, VA. I showed Pony Hunters for 9 years. My email is camille@chronofhorse.com. Please get in contact if she’s still available for free lease and we can discuss details. Thanks, Camille.

Hello! I am a newly horseless rider who just moved to Boston, MA. I am a 22-year-old teacher and I have been riding my entire life (I’m about to hit the 2 decade mark! ) I competed in H/J and eventing (through training level) in high school and rode on my college’s IHSA teams in both hunter eq and western pleasure. I have my colors with the Iroquois Hunt in Lexington, KY and have experience whipping in and I’ve ridden many different hunt horses varying from old schoolmasters to babies off the track! Right now I would love to find a situation where I could help keep a horse in shape by coming out to ride once or twice a week, and I would prefer to keep to flatwork and low-ish jumping (like 2’6’’-3’ max). I would also be interested in working as a groom for weekend competitions in the area- I have experience grooming for a Prix St. George rider. I can PM you with references and/or photos if you think we could set something up!!!

Riderless Horses - Montgomery County, MD

Therapeutic riding center in Boyds, MD looking for help keeping horses fit and tuned up. Ideal rider has a lower-level dressage background, is willing to work with/around physical limitations of older horses, and is generally available to ride twice a week.

Someone willing to do extensive hacking/hill work, mostly at the walk, would also be considered. Ability to work safely and treat the horses fairly without supervision is key, so this is not a good fit for beginners.

Facility offers indoor, lighted outdoor, unfenced grass “arena,” and 100 acres for hacking. Horses range from 14.3hh QH to 18hh Belgian, all quiet enough to be currently working in the therapeutic riding setting – pretty darn quiet! PM for more details.

Horseless Rider KCMO (temporarily while maresie recovers from EPM)

I would love to help exercise a horse for someone for the next few months, any English discipline, am familiar with all 3 English seats. I would classify myself as advanced in Saddle Seat and general horsemanship, knowledgeable of dressage principles and Training level tests (although I cannot remember them, at least know what the component parts are), and jumping only if no higher than 2 ft. I would be happy to do flatting for a jumper with no jumping required during my riding.

Things I am not really good at are upper level dressage movements such as piaffe, canter pirouette or tempi changes, although in my teenaged saddle seat equitation years, I was familiar with the 4 tempis, ‘straight line changes’ as they are called in SS Eq. My instructor was a stickler for keeping the horse straight, not angled. The instructor of my youth had studied with Arthur Konyot (Tina’s Grandfather) so I learned about half halts, fixed hand halts and other dressage principles from an early age. I can facilitate/elicit passage and extended trot on a horse that already knows them.

Some of my specialized expertise includes how to transition a horse from snaffle to a double bridle, introducing a horse to the different effects of the two bits, i.e. educating the mouth in the double, and am of the Walter Zettl subtlety and ‘open the door to let the horse come through’, school of dressage rather than rollkur/force a frame. I know the engine is in the rear and as a result I ride back to front, not the other way around.

I always wear a helmet, have my own forward seat and cutback saddles, and am extremely knowledgeable and consicientious. I can go as far northwest and southwest as Shawnee and Overland Park in KS and as far eastward as Lone Jack MO. I prefer not to go to the far Northland. I am familiar with many of the local stables, on good terms with folks at them, and will be happy to provide references. I will only have time to ride 2 or 3 times a week at most, because my mare also needs daily handwalking, plus I work full time.
ETA - I had better hold off on this plan, maresie’s issues are time consuming enough I probably won’t have time to travel around to ride, bur thanks for reading this.

Horseless Rider – Lexington, VA

Hi,

I’m a horseless rider in Lexington, VA looking for an opportunity to ride pretty much anything for an hour or two a week.

I’ve competed BN eventing for one season, but before that I took lessons for years until I eventually got my own horse, who I owned for 2.5 years during high school. He was in a self-care stall, so I was out at the barn every day taking care of him as well as riding and learned quite a lot. I feel confident handling horses and confident I’ve maintained the basics of riding, but I haven’t ridden since starting college and am undoubtedly rusty on some finer points! I used to love schooling lower-level dressage with my guy; hopefully I haven’t lost all of my know-how in that area. I also really enjoy jumping, but that’s definitely not a must. I’m interested in everything from helping to condition horses to stretching the legs of your retired old packers who could benefit from a little more exercise  Anything would be great!

Please e-mail me at neets.lovelaceATgmailDOTcom if you’re interested in talking more about my experience and whether or not you think I could be helpful to you and your horse!

I have two horses, not enough time for either one, located in Palm Coast Florida, near St. Augustine. We have miles of lovely trails. Horse available is a 12 year old TB mare. She can be quirky but has matured a ton in the last year or so. She has done jumpers, dabbled in cross country and previously done lower level dressage. PM if interested.

Charleston, SC

Horseless rider in Charleston, SC!
I’m an adult re-rider in Charleston looking for some extra time in the saddle. I rode hunters in middle and high school, but quit during college and was too poor for lessons in the years following. Still poor but can now afford weekly lessons (hurrah!). Currently riding with a trainer whose focus is on dressage. I’m up for anything, so shoot me a PM if you want a riding partner or have any questions.

Near Tampa, FL

Have horses in Plant City, FL (Near Tampa)

Eventers/young horses/ponies need to be a smaller rider for the ponies (150 or under is fine). Email me, email address is on website.

Horseless Rider Raleigh/Cary, NC

I’m 23 and have ridden for 15+ years. I’ve been catch riding the past 5 years and have ridden everything from young and green to experienced and getting back into shape. My background is H/J, I showed on the C/A circuit through high school.
My most recent catch ride is ending because the horses owner found a barn for her (owner moved but didn’t take her mare right away). I live in Cary and am willing to travel 20-25 minutes. I’m happy to trail ride, hack out, leg up, flat, jump, etc.
Please let me know if you have anything or know of anyone who does. I can provide references!
Thanks

Riderless Horse in Montgomery County, MD

I recently got a job that has required me to travel much more and my mom is feeling a little overwhelmed becoming the sole caregiver for our Thoroughbred mare.

She is 14 years old, but does not act like a horse in her teens! She has plenty of motor and loves to be in a regular work schedule, which as I mentioned has become much more of a challenge since I’m not home as much anymore. She has jumped up to 3’, has lead changes and is a pleasure to ride. She does need an intermediate to advanced rider, only because she easily picks up on someone with nerves. My mom (who is 60) is learning to jump little courses on her, so she is absolutely manageable and safe for anyone that is a decent rider. She has impeccable ground manners and enjoys hacking out in the field. She is not a trail horse.

She is boarded in Gaithersburg, MD which is convenient to Montgomery County/Northern Virginia/DC and really anywhere in Maryland south of Baltimore. You would have access to all of her tack/grooming supplies/etc.

Please personal message me if you’re interested or would like more information. Thanks!

Horseless Rider in Bothell, WA

I am reposting mine, as it was back in May.

English/Western Mare in Penryn/Loomis, CA

Arab/Mustang mare in more need of riding time than I have at the moment. Pretty solid little mare that is sensitive and requires a thoughtful rider, she is not hot. Will try her heart out for you. 9 years old, only 13.2 hands so a petite or lightweight rider is required.

Arena on property with Folsom Lake and Auburn area trails all in the backyard. Please email me at shadowdale@hotmail.com for more info and with your experience.
