RIP @Where_sMyWhite

I don’t have an idea…I’m a minimalist and think “in memory of” is wonderful. Count me in, though - I’ll pm you. I don’t do PayPal or anything cool like that. It’s such a great idea, I’m going to purchase a brick in memory of my late husband and another in honor of my spectacular horse. We bought and retrained TBs for years, and Old Friends supported a horse who lived w me for years.
Edited to add I didn’t mean to get this off track. It’s just such a wonderful idea to honor and remember those we love, I got carried away.

Is "In Memory of " OK with everyone? It’s fine with me. I might be able to think of something nice to add, but it would probably take me a week of pondering.

Just another thought - She was also an active and qualified volunteer at Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden (according to her bio sketch re: the Zoom adenium presentation). They offer a tree plaque. The minimum donation is $500. This may be difficult to coordinate, but most fundraising agencies will work witih you.

Donating to the AZ Master Gardener program looks like a pain. It is coordinated through U. of AZ and.on-line donations only accept bitcoin.

Texarkana, it is possible that OF will accept credit card or check contributions from multiple donors. Let me know (PM) what you find; I’m in for a drib.

And thank you all.

I love that idea.

@BrownDerby Great find! Do you think that organization might already be doing something if she was so active with it? I can try to reach out.

If we do the Old Friends idea, I was thinking I could pay with my credit card then we could sort out the rest after it’s done. It was suggested we could donate any extra in her name.

I dug around earlier today and came up short. Possibly something on FB (not a user) or via a phone call which (I did not pursue).

Has anyone been to, or seen any pictures of, the garden at Old Friends? I can’t find any photos or information about the brick pathway except that construction was to begin last June. I wonder if Covid has altered those plans.

I think that whether a brick or a tree plaque is chosen, Kathy would feel humbled and honored that so many people feel her loss, and that we want a memorial in her name. What a good group of people you are.

Logistically, it seems that the brick would be easier to coordinate. We could keep the fundraising “in house” so to speak.

A friend of many here on COTH suggested the following inscription:

“In memory of Kathy ******, a great racing fan, master gardener, and good friend.”

Thoughts?

@skydy I know the area they are talking about at Old Friends, but I was last there 5 years ago, before the dedication to Nikki Bacharach. At the time I think I remember roses and trees around the headstones.

I imagine it’s been redone a bit.

I’ll touch base with the Old Friends people before we make any final decisions. I did some work with them years ago and they tend to respond to me quickly.

@Texarkana That’s nice, if we could tidy up the commas, maybe make each description on its own with an “A” preceding? All those commas look like something I would write. :upside_down_face: Someone here would know how best to present it.

Anyone? It’s better than me becoming morose with Robert Louis Stevenson…

I just saw this…sad news indeed. We shared many conversations about racing and evaluating stock. RIP, Kathy.

I’ve thought of that as well. I’ll email some people my passwords and tell them to mention my death to COTH forum members when the time comes. There are some people whose sudden absence from the forums I would (obviously) notice.

I don’t know that I’d be missed as soon as Kathy was. I just knew that she would have posted about the goings on in racing and the good races that two of her MRHs ran, unless something was terribly wrong. It was over the holidays, but still…

Thankfully, our kind @Moderator_1 took my concerns to heart. Mod1 went above and beyond what could really be expected, to help, without violating privacy, and that’s a lovely example of people whom we may not know IRL, but when called upon, show themselves to be excellent human beings.

@skydy Thank you for your astute awareness. People come and go here. It’s so hard to know if someone is just busy or stepping away, or if something happened.

I was kind of shocked when you posted this because I could have sworn she just posted the other day. Then when I looked it had been over a month.

Should there be a link made in any of the other forums to this thread? Not everybody reads the racing sub-forum, and may still be wondering where Where_sMyWhite is.

I’m not doing it myself – I was not a close friend. I’m hoping someone who did communicate with her thru messaging or real life might have an opinion on this.

Which forum are you thinking of? I’ll mention her passing but I’m not sure where to do it.

The holidays had passed. When one of her MRH horses ran a very good race and there was no response from her I knew something was wrong. She was just so keen on her micro share horses that she would have been posting or sending a PM if there was any way she could. She was also interested in Racing news and there were happenings in which she would have had an opinion. We would have been discussing the upcoming Winter Mixed sale catalog as well.

She said she didn’t participate in the MRH Facebook group because there were too many non-horsey people there and she didn’t want to get involved with that, so she would not be missed there.

She did join what used to be the TB champions forum but hadn’t been posting there either. (Unfortunately, some people there seemed to take her enthusiasm for and detailed understanding of, MRH, as an opportunity to accuse her of working for MRH, which she didn’t. She was just very keen, good at research and liked to know everything about the program she had bought into and how it worked.)

That I know of, she participated in gardening threads in Off-topic, and in some political threads in Current Events.

I am so shocked to read of this
She was a master gardener and helped me so very much. God speed where’s my white. Godspeed. You will be greatly missed. You are already.
