RIP @Where_sMyWhite

It’s perfect! Thank you so very much. :hugs:

Something I love about @BrownDerby’s idea of the Old Friends garden is that it gives us an informal location to pay our respects if we are in the area. I highly recommend an Old Friends tour for anyone. There’s just something special about getting to meet all of those great horses up close and personal, feeding them carrots and loving on them.

My dribble will arrive next week after my SSI hits the bank. :money_with_wings:
Can you pls PM me your PayPal info?

If anyone wants, I will try to find someone at the University of Arizona Extension that knows her and let them know about the brick, tell them how much she was admired by our gardeners, and ask them if they have any sort of memorial in place for her.

I’ll go by “likes” to this post as my guide.

I would like to contribute. She and I butted heads on CE but I always found her posts interesting.

I think that @Texarkana is hoping that people will send her a PM if they’re interested in giving a dribble, so she doesn’t have to read the entire thread to find those that would like to contribute. If you send a PM then she’ll have the information in one place. If you PM that you are interested, then she can get back to you with the details.

Thank you again Texarkana, for taking this memorial in hand. It’s a shocking loss, however we can feel a little better knowing that we’ve done something in her memory.

I will miss her contributions. They were always worth reading.
My condolences to her family and IRL friends.

Thanks skydy. Yes, please PM. I don’t want to feel like I am shaking anyone down for money and putting pressure on them.

If you have PM’d, I will be following up in the next couple days to send you my info. I’ve had a kind of crazy few days so I’m a bit behind; my apologies if I haven’t replied yet. I’m overwhelmed at how awesome and generous you all are! I hope WMW knew how deeply loved and appreciated she was!

I was unable to contact a human being at the Master Gardeners site or the U of A extension.

I spoke with Grace at (ETA from, I was not at) the Desert Botanical Garden. (Thankfully) they were aware of her passing. She asked if I’d send her an email with a synopsis of what I said in our conversation ( that Kathy was a longtime member of a horse enthusiasts forum, about the donation of the brick, asking on behalf of members if there is any garden related memorial that individual members can give to, and if not, would she have liked something in particular etc…) so she can share it with her colleagues there, which I have done.

They don’t have any information about her family.

I’ll see what I get back in email and try to figure out some way to post it here without posting email addresses.

Just seeing this very sad news now, but as a racing enthusiast I think WMW would be very happy about a donation to Old Friends, they do wonderful work.

Hey everyone,

I think I said this to most via PM, but I may have missed someone (apologies if I have… what a GOOD problem to have so many people care about WMW).

Right now we have covered the cost of the brick, $225, plus a bit of extra. Several dribbles are still coming via mail, so that excess will probably be a bit more.

The plan is I’m going to make a lump donation to Old Friends in WMW’s name once all the dribbles come in. I want to do it once to keep everything straight.

If anyone still wants to donate, I would suggest donating straight to Old Friends since there is really no reason for me to be the middle (wo)man now that the brick expenses are covered.

I’m hoping the company updates me when the brick is ready. If I don’t hear from them after a bit, I’ll reach out so we know when the brick may be in place.

And thank you again to everyone. This community is amazing. I think WMW would be really touched.

I’ve had no return email from the people at the Desert Botanical Garden, so I think @Texarkana , your idea is a good one.

Thanks so much for taking the time and energy to organize COTH’s memorial to Kathy.

This is the most amazing community.

We collected $525 in @Where_sMyWhite’s name. $225 went for the brick (need to follow up with them about that since it has been radio silence). I just donated $300 additional to Old Friends.

We lost a friend, but I know there is solace knowing we did something for the horses of which she was a fan.

What a great group of people you are, bountiful givers, including our @Mod1.

This was written by Lola Ridge, more about love than friendship, but it somehow came to mind as fitting in this circumstance. When looked at in a context of friendship, I can imagine WMW expressing these words. RIP WMW, Kathy.

I apologize for the sentimentality, death most often brings poetry to my mind for some odd reason.

The Garden

Bountiful givers,
I look along the years
And see the flowers that you threw…
Anemones
And sprigs of gray
Sparse heather of the rocks,
Or a wild violet
Or a daisy of a daisied field…
But each your best.

I might have worn them on my breast
To wilt in the long day…
I might have stemmed them in a narrowed vase
And watched each petal sallowing…
I might have held them so-mechanically
Till the wind winnowed all the leaves
And left upon my hands
A little smear of dust.

Instead
I hid them in the soft warm loam
Of a dim shadowed place…
Deep
In a still cool grotto,
Lit only by the memories of stars
And the wide luminous eyes
Of dead poets
That love me and that I love…
Deep…Deep…
Where none may see-not even ye who gave-
About my soul your garden beautiful.

Thats beautiful…and appropriate. As is the selection of Old Friends, her memory is in good company.

Hey everyone. I emailed Barbara at Old Friends several days ago like I kept saying I was going to do. I still haven’t heard back. I will follow up with a phone call if I don’t hear back in the next day or so. Apart from the order confirmation email, I haven’t heard any info. I know people may be in the area for LRK3DE next month and was wondering if anyone would be able to see the brick in place, or if it takes longer for it to be prepared.

Hey everyone! I received a letter from Old Friends today about our brick for Kathy.

It says “your brick will be placed in the cemetery as soon as weather conditions and scheduling permit this spring.” Hopefully someone can check it out.

Our brick was $225; I’m not sure if the difference in the deductible amount listed is materials or error. I am not personally concerned (not planning on deducting since it was our dribbles, not mine) but I didn’t know if anyone else caught that.

I did see it, but I’m not deducting my share of the dribble, either😀. Thank you again for doing this.

Same!! Thank you again Texarkana for doing this. I think it would make WheresMyWhite smile. Thanks for keeping us updated.
