RIP @Where_sMyWhite

Thank you for doing this.

Maybe some time in the future I can visit Old Friends. I have always wanted to, but, alas, DH is non-horsey and we usually do our trips together.

Thank you again @Texarkana, you came through for all of us at a very difficult time.

It is a comfort to know that there will be a permanent marker at Old Friends that is a testament to our WMW’s love of TB racing and of the breed, and to our feelings of loss at her passing.

I do wish that we could have found her next of kin, to tell them how much she will be missed and to inform them of the memorial in her honor.

Enabling!!!

Lexington and Louisville is a great trip even without horses. Does he drink bourbon? Or like baseball? (Louisville Slugger) Or boxing? Or college basketball? There is great food to be had. Plus places like Churchill Downs and Keeneland are such a great experience even if you aren’t into the racing itself. Even Old Friends is fun for the non-horsey person because you get to pet and feed the horses. I mean, even the least horsey person can appreciate someone like Silver Charm, who is a love bug.

There are just a lot of neat things in the area. And if you make it a bit of a road trip, you can hit completely non-horsey places like Mammoth Cave, Cincinnati, Nashville, etc.

The difference should be the “fair market value” of an engraved brick.

You can only deduct money donated to a nonprofit for which you receive no tangible benefit. Technically, you are supposed to subtract the value of any tote bag etc. that you receive in return for a donation. Donation acknowledgment letters generally give this information, or there’s IRS-approved boilerplate about “no tangible benefits received in exchange for this donation.” (I may have forgotten the exact phrasing.)

Thanks @avjudge! I appreciate that.

I was not concerned about the difference at all. Like I said, I’m not deducting or anything. But since I was the one who placed the order for us, I wanted to point that out so no one thought I was being deceitful about the cost.

I don’t think that anyone here believes that you would do such a thing.

Oh dear…I’ve been so busy that I stepped away from COTH and the rest of my online life. It’s heartbreaking to come back and see this. She was a lovely women and we PM’ed each other through the years. I wish I had met her offline.

And what a lovely gesture. I don’t know when I will get to Kentucky but I will be sure to look for her memorial.

Godspeed and farewell Where _sMyWhite. You will be missed.

I know it’s been 2 years since we lost Kathy, but I finally made it out to Old Friends to see our brick we placed for her.

Her spirit is in good company with the likes of Bint Marscay, Hidden Lake, and Alphabet Soup next to her brick and Charismatic, Skip Away, and Medina Spirit nearby. I do wish she was here to donate her gardening skills to the area.
