ROC USA

 Roc Holiday is actually a colt that hasn’t figured out he’s still got all his plumbing. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him and he is an absolute honey - takes everything in stride!

oops! sorry, I just assumed it was a filly. I found some pictures of the Roc USA young jumpers. Very cute. I wonder if the jumper types are out of warmblood mares. They seem more bulky compared to the ones I have seen doing the hunters.

Digging up the old thread…

My mare is due in about a month! It has gone by soooo quickly!

She is looking huge and a little pissy at the moment. I was just wondering who else has any foals coming by Roc USA?

I think I will be the first one and Natalie said I will be one of the only Roc’s foals on the West Coast!

Here is a picture of her at 8 months… wonder what the baby will look like.
Any guesses?

I say it will be a bay colt with 3 socks below the knee and a star:winkgrin:

here is the original thread. My mare is due Feb. 20th. I will post pics!

Anyone else have any Roc babies coming?

Samotis-I think your mare will have a bay colt with a big white face and a couple of socks!

I’ve been thinking about breeding my mare this spring (if not in '08. definitely '09, can’t decide!). One of these days I’ll post pictures to see what you all think of her, what stallion would be a good match based on conformation. The most important aspect to me is temperament. Now days, she is easy, easy, easy, so consistent in every way-movement, jumping style, attitude, etc, but as a youngster (she is 11 now) she had a tendency to be spooky and really herd bound. She’s a decent mover, better behind than upfront. I’d love to slow her movement down; while she’s flat-legged, big strided and deep behind, she’s a bit quick-legged. She’s by no means a hot horse, but she will light up if you ride aggressively. She has one of those sit back and throw the reins away type of canters.

She’s a Swedish WB, 16 hands with a very compact built. If I could change one thing about her conformation wise, I would give her a longer topline.

I’m an amateur who does it all herself, horse in backyard type, and want the baby who can thrive in that situation. I’ve been watching DVD’s of stallions I find appealing, but many don’t have a lot of babies on the ground, so that is hard to judge. But so far, ROC’s offspring look fabulous!

Equino - From your description of yourself and what you’re looking for I would definitely consider ROC. We’ve had several of his “kids” on our farm and they thrive on human attention. Our’s have all been wonderful to work with. Very sensible and smart. I’m sure that if you contact Natalie she’d send you a tape.

I got the DVD of Roc today! I’ve watched it a couple of times and his babies really impress me! I wish there were more of him under saddle, over fences, but from what there is, I really like.

Almost all of the Roc babies I have seen are “backyard”. They are all very sensible and I really liked the fact that ammies were riding all the babies at the shows.

I noticed that Roc seems to improve movement. He himself is a big mover, not a great hunter type, but many of his offspring are. They all have great canters! (huge strides) He also has babies showing in both hunter and jumper futurities and doing very well. Not to mention the oldest are about 7! Not bad for a young stallion!

It is too bad that they didn’t campaign him more himself as a jumper, but Nancy did do the right thing by breeding him because he is a great producer. ( from what I have seen)

One thing I also noticed is they develop a little slower than most, but that is good for me. I would rather go slow.

So for those of you with Roc USA offspring, how would you say they develop. Are they slow to grow, do they mature late, early?

I am just looking for some pointers on what is the norm for his offspring. I think I remember Nancy telling me that they are late bloomers.

The ones I have seen have all been very curious and friendly.

there are so many better stallions out there than roc usa. if its expense you are worried about there are bargains out there you just need to look. horse show diva dot com

that is such an ignorant thing to say. She wasn’t asking if there are better stallions out there. I really think you should take your empty negative comments somewhere else.

I would agree that some of Roc’s larger offspring are slow to appear mature, physically, as is true of many horses that top out at or above 17 hands. It takes some time to grow into themselves.

Those babies of Roc’s that I have had joy of raising are fun and funny and engaging. They seem, across the board, to have absolutely amateur friendly temperaments with great athleticism and yet a tolerant sense of humor. My rising three year-old who is a bit of an “Elvis” (seems to make most of my friends weak in the knees when he bats his brown eyes at them) will do anything I ask him to – just because I asked. His mother is a hot-house Thoroughbred who is very herd bound and not always easy to live with but he’s easy as pie.

He recently had to go on his first trailer ride in a two horse trailer (previous experience has all been in a four horse head-to-head) with a traveling partner that was….shall we say….not happy to be traveling. He walked out of his paddock, away from his buddies and straight onto a strange trailer with a strange horse that was Salsa dancing in the stall next to him, and stood quietly.

There’s always going to be a stallion that’s ‘better’ for someone than another. Nature of the beast. But if mark of a stallion is in his get, there’s been no better stallion choice for me.

Those of us who are Roc fans will be waiting anxiously to hear about Gracie’s baby – she’s getting close now, isn’t she?

she is due feb. 20th. She hasn’t bagged up yet, but she is not eating as much this week and is more lethargic then usual!

JEEES, what is that about? You make me wish Erin was still here!

mainiac-i was a little shocked to see that comment too.

About the bigger foal, gosh I hope my baby doesn’t get to be 17 hands! I would like 16.2 at the most.

Gracie is 15.3 and very short bodied, her dad was 16.2 though. I hope to get something in between!

Samotis–how exciting it’s getting close! I know you have been counting down. I have seen some very cutely marked Roc babies.

Thought I might post this new confo pic of Roc USA. It is new on his website. Much better picture then the others they have on there.

My mare is getting close. I have a boy named picked out, but I am having a hard time picking a girl name. Still haven’t found a “wow” girl name. She is due next week, but I think she might be a little late. She is so funny though, she just sunbathes in her walk out stall and yawns all day. (lot a work:))

That’s a great picture. Are you gonna share your boy name or don’t want to jinx it?

Boys name will be Rocafeller as in Rockefeller, but using Roc’s name:)

But, not sure what the barn name could be. My friend is from NY and said to use fella for the barn name, but I don’t know.

I do want to see the foal before I am totally set on a name, but I do like Rocafeller. I have a whole list of names, so we will see.

Oh, and did you see? Roc’s dad was just named Dressage horse of the year.
