I’m looking to take lessons in or around Rochester, NY. I have a friend who rode at High View Farms a while back but she’s not sure they still offer lessons to the public. Thanks for any info!

The Nazereth College IHSA team rides there…I donated my horse to them almost a year ago.

If you want to do Hunters, go to HMS.
I suggest you pick the barns you are interested in and go take 1 lesson at each place. That way you can try different instructors and decide which one you get along with the best.

It seems like there are quite a few to pick from. Would anyone be able to tell me which places have school horses as well as a trainer that could help me find a horse to lease? I have always leased until I moved here and I think it would be nice to ride a little more than a few lessons each week. If it matters, I mostly do hunters and some eq (just the 3 ft stuff). Barns that go to shows would be a plus too-but not a requirement.
I am certain that HMS would have both horses for lessons (they always have) and lease.
They have some really great quality horses and they show at all the shows from unrated to A.
I agree with those who said to pick a few and go and check the places out. Too many times a barn has been recommended to us as being “the place” and when we went to check it out, it wasn’t the right fit. I know that the area of NY you’re checking in to has many, many hunter/jumper barns, which makes your choice easier and harder! I’d go online to the places that were mentioned and either google them to find their websites or go to their websites and check them out first that way. I googled the Huntington Meadow one www.huntingtonmeadowstables.com and the Sleeman Stables one www.sleemanstables.org and both of them had wonderful websites. I think a barn’s website also says alot about the barn. But it’s always best to actually go and look at places for yourself and better yet, set up a private lesson or two. Let us know who, if any, you check out!
If you look at the show calendar on the Syracuse PHA website, you’ll see there are shows later this month in Rochester and Syracuse. You could go to watch, especially the schooling area, and see which trainers look like they might suit you, to help narrow your search.

Lehmans are just across the thruway.
Jack and da boys (Carl and the other cutie Mark) were da shit in the late 60’s and 70’s when I rode.
No other barn in Ra Cha Cha came close.
They had a rivaly with VA GINNIA with polo in the fall/winter on friday nite’s. 
But I digress from the OP post. It’s a shame that no more up/down lessons continue there.

You had a lasting inspiration on me to this day with a horse in my life…still going strong.
I rode his lesson hacks in the day with Marion Watson showing her horses. What ever happened to her? She had a little sister…I forget her name. Gutsy rider.
I also remember trying that Canadian TB horse named Mr.Cool. What a horse!

moving to Rochester for the summer - looking for H/J barn
Hi everyone,
I’m new at COTH and have heard this is a great place to find out about local barns. I too am looking for a hunter/jumper/equitation barn close to Rochester. I’m moving there for the summer (internship) and am looking to continue intensive training in Hunt Seat Equitation. I am currently competing at the Intermediate Division in the IHSA and want to continue training really hard this summer so I can remain competitive come September. If anyone has any suggestions of farms/instructors in the area, I’d be most appreciative. I am very sad to be leaving my hometown trainer & barn for a couple months and am hopeful that I can find a new barn to call home for the summer. Thanks!
