Rodney Jenkins VHS... seriously?!

I just got this video off of ebay for $40… and watched it today. What a fantastic video!!! And R.S.V.P is/was amazing! What a beautiful horse!!!

Do you think those old jumper riders went in to race training cause they got to old to fall off?

Old topic…
But I’ve had my eye out for this tape too since reading this, and managed to find one on craigslist for a song.

It is a great tape, well worth watching.

Had a copy when I was a junior and loved it. Still wish I had it (along with my copy of The Show Gypsies)!

I have a copy of Rodney’s tape and I wanted to put it on DVD to preserve it but couldn’t! :frowning: "Lent my copy of “Show Gypsies” to a friend and haven’t seen it since!

What was the deal w/not being able to put it on the DVD, copper?

 i have one of these dvds…

for those who do not… i was trolling around and found this article. its good info, and the photos took me away to a long time ago, which still seems like yesterday… http://vasportsman.com/Rodney.pdf

Yes it seems like yesterday to me too, I remember both Rodney and Ennis at the big A shows when I was a junior and as an adult also.

It has one of those block things that prevented me from putting it onDVD. I had a couple of techno friends try and they failed as well.

bac… i had completely forgotten how he used to "sing " all the way around the courses.

that picture of him at ten… so many people freak out about lesson programs which let kids jump without a “base”… well, i wish i EVER had hands like that!

the article is well and sympathetically written, surprised i’d never seen it before. computers are good for Something?

Woohoo…old thread but I just won a copy off ebay for cheap and I’m SO excited to watch it.

Rodney Jenkins

Didn’t he show a horse called Cold Ruler in '76? What a spectacular rider…

Slightly off topic - can anybody tell me more about the horse RSVP on the tape? I’ve been in love with him since my trainer gave me the video years ago.

That horse moves so incredibly perfect to me, and so unlike so many of the horses I seem to see winning hacks these days - anybody know breeding or anything?

He moves like my horse used to before he became crippled, snuffle snuffle.

Also Simbalu is hunter perfection to me, both my trainer and groom worked with him and said he had a lovely personality too.

You’d have to pry my tape from my cold dead hands!

jenkins tape

youre right it wont copy tape to dvd BUT it will copy tape to tape–i made three copies (on tape) before i sold my original last spring–havnt tried to copy the copy to dvd yet but that might work. really funny as most of the older horse tapes (not movies) will copy tape to dvd but that one wont

For those who think most people at the track don’t know who Rodney is, I think you’d find that’s not the case at all. A lot of Maryland racing trainers were pony clubbers themselves and showed when they were kids so not only do a lot of them know who he is, they rode with him.

Rodney’s stabled at Laurel and Bowie. Michael Matz is at Fair Hill and Tim Ritchey’s base is Delaware Park. Since it’s winter, Matz has probably gone to Florida and I’m not sure where Tim might have headed this year. He was at Oaklawn when he had dual Classic winner, Afleet Alex, a few years ago, so it’s possible he’s gone back there, maybe moved to Fair Grounds in Louisiana or maybe even stayed home to take advantage of the bigger purses in Pennsylvania.

I wonder if he knows his tape is so popular with today’s hunter/jumper crowd.

Well if not, someone should let him know. If they re-released the video, he could make quite a profit from his assumed cut.
