Runhappy's trainer fired day after Breeder's Cup

Photos and update on Maria Borell.

This is terrible.

Paulick is tweeting about it – apparently the horses are being fed now by authorities.
Bumping.
Hoping someone with high up connections in the racing world/KY politics can put pressure on the state to resolve this.

“Absolutely disgusting” doesn’t even begin to describe this woman and her father. She’s partying her Spanx off at the Breeders’ Cup while her horses starve in filthy conditions…

Moving this comment over here from where mistakenly posted.

Another twist…

Not sure why you posted the Maria Borell update on this thread but I found it to be ironic that Tres Delaforce is supposedly on the side of the good guys this time around. She is an expert on starved horses.
Just saw her FB photo of the Borell horses and came back for threads on her.

What is her story anyway?!? (Tres Delaforce, that is…?)

This is her BFF.

A couple of Borell issue “shares” came up on FB yesterday, one with a link to Gofundme pages. One had a picture taken by Tres Delaforce.

Now seeing her own page, see she has done this as well in the past. And is currently on a bender about Borell - not that that isn’t uncalled for.

And TD’s FB page promotes her own TB stallion - with a pic from this winter - pretty ribby for a stallion…

I’ve PMd those who posted those “shares”, as both are very reputable.

A lot still being shared online. Local law enforcement citing out of their jurisdiction (per someone’s FB attempt to contact). Supposedly meetings tomorrow of officials, but no one taking a position. Borell placing blame at her father’s feet. One horse shown in deplorable condition is Z Camelot, so Zayat looking into it as well, Fox Hill, Maggi Moss, others. Borell listed as this horse’s last trainer although looks like last race in 2014.

I think the stuff will be really hitting the fan in the morning, with much wider coverage.

Wow, what’s that expression about lying down with dogs? Tres Delaforce must be covered with fleas with the company she keeps. As soon as I saw that name on the big Facebook rant today, I thought to myself “all is not what it seems”. Where is Kate these days?

Interesting group of characters. A check of white pages shows no Tres Delaforce found in USA or Canada, yet her racing stable is on FB.

This all could be a humbling experience for KY law enforcement as it appears they aren’t all that good protecting horses anyway.

Finally, Bloodhorse and Victoria Keith, assistant to TB owner Rick Porter, has gotten involved, the horses have been declared abandoned. They’re finally going to get some help.

According to Rusty Ford, spokesman for the Kentucky state veterinarian’s office within the Department of Agriculture, investigators from that office have gathered information that demonstrates the horses on property in Mercer County have been abandoned. A June 27 meeting between department officials, the county attorney, and the sheriff’s department would seek to “determine what culpability there is and who has it,” Ford said the morning of June 27.

Because the case is under investigation, Ford said he could not provide further details, but he noted that since state and local officials took over the case June 2, they have been working with volunteers and other equine organizations to ensure that the horses are being properly maintained until the situation can be resolved. He said photographs posted on social media platforms accurately depict the condition of the approximately 40 horses.

[snip]

As a result of the publicity surrounding the neglect case, Victoria Keith, assistant to prominent Thoroughbred owner Rick Porter, visited the property June 26 and said that she, Porter, and others in the industry were prepared to remove the horses from the property and take care of them, provided permission was granted by the officials in charge of the case.

“Rick and I have read the reports on the Borell horses, and we have worried about their well-being,” Keith wrote on the Fox Hill Facebook page. "We decided to get involved, with the first step being to go out and see the situation for ourselves. It was heart-breaking. I counted 41 horses on the property, with 36 of them being Thoroughbreds.

"I’d categorize 11 of the horses as being emaciated, and another 10 as being malnourished and/or notably lacking condition. The remaining, including the 5 non-Thoroughbreds, were in better flesh. These are my estimates, which I believe are conservative. A vet may scale them differently.

“The horses have not yet been seized by authorities, but they are under order that they cannot be moved. The sheriffs are allowing a small group to take care of the horses, and my understanding is that they are doing so at little or no pay. The paddocks are mostly dirt, but I witnessed plenty of hay there, which I was told was provided by the sheriff’s office. I was told that what I was seeing was mostly an improvement with the horses gaining weight though there were a few exceptions. One horse was continuing to lose weight, for example, so one would assume she has internal issues that need to be addressed.”

Keith in the Facebook post said she planned to attend the June 27 meeting and hopes the horses are permitted to go to foster homes for care.

“We know of one owner who has offered to take care of all the horses at his expense until they are re-homed, and we know of a number of other offers to foster the horses,” she said. “If there is no resolution to the situation today, then we will be urging local and state authorities as well as entities within racing to resolve the matter and quickly. These horses deserve better and need our help.”

KY law enforcement is atrocious when it comes to protecting horses. They don’t want to spend the funds to take care of them in a seizure, so they just won’t do a seizure.

More a rhetorical question… they don’t want to spend funds or they don’t have funds to spend???

Don’t want to spend it. According to a Harvard study, KY has the most corrupt government in the country and that sh*t flows down.

LauraKY:: Having been involved in horse rescue for many years, I am so sorry that this is happening in your state. I recall reading early in this thread the animal control affidavit on Maria saying they found no problems at her farm and thinking to myself something is amiss. It appeared then to be malicious on the part of the accusers. I had no idea how terrible animal welfare enforcement is in KY and it spans all breeds and disciplines. Thank you for being so honest and compassionate. I have done some research on KY laws and they are truly lacking. Googling the issue is truly an eye opener. Atrocious is the perfect term.

Anytime the KY AG Dept. and the State Vet get involved, horses in KY a screwed.

Pretty much every county knows that those 2 entities will write up a report reflecting that horses are in good condition. Since the “investigators” don’t normally take any photographs for their reports, it’s “their word” against anyone filing a complaint. The fact that they don’t have any enforcement powers in the firs place however, is never mentioned.

Been there, done that many times.

Remember these names: Rusty Ford (AG Dept.). & Dr. Stout (State Vet).
When those two come up, it pretty much means that the horses are doomed unless combined forces can make a HUGE stink with every single authority in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Once again an article which suggests the KY AG Dept. (Shane Mitchell) is in charge.
THEY HAVE NO ENFORCEMENT POWERS!!!
They can’t be in charge.

It’s the same every time. Counties do NOT want to take responsibility.

There is a post beginning to go viral within the Facebook horse community that Borell is in Syracuse and at Finger Lakes Race Track looking for free horses.

I haven’t been able to find anyone yet that can confirm this. I don’t know the source of the original post as I haven’t been able to track it back that far yet.

Here is the post.

ALERT I was just told the MARIA BORELL has allegedly been sighted at Finger Lakes racetrack inquiring about free horses there and is staying with her dad in Syracuse. Please alert anyone you know who runs horses here to be diligent in researching any new owners. She is alleged to be looking for a farm to rent in Ontario. The NY State Troopers are on alert for her as well. PLEASE SHARE AND TAG anyone who may be able to thwart her efforts to continue her criminal activities and abuse.”

More info: It appears stewards and others have been alerted at the track, just in case and trainers are passing the word around. I found the source of the Facebook post, but don’t want to put someone’s name here. Easy to find with a search.

Why are the NY State Troopers “on alert?” Has she been charged with a crime and is evading arrest?

That’s one of the things that make me skeptical over the post. No one, including the source of the original post seems to know the answer to this.

Just saw this on FB and came here.
Hope the rumor isn’t true - we don’t need her back here.

What is she doing? Gathering horses to sell to the slaughter pipeline? Maybe the troopers are on alert in the event that Kentucky does decide to press charges and they can rein her in
