"MARIA BORELL FARM & HORSE UPDATE 6/2/2016:
THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out in support of our efforts! Your support and shares have brought so much awareness to this case that the Borell’s are doing what they always do when they feel the heat and that is LIE! Charles Borell, Maria’s dad, has contacted the Mercer County Sheriff to claim that he has been feeding those horses, or has hired someone to do so. I think we can all see that is impossible.
I won’t tangle you up in the web of lies being spun on their end, but I will tell you this much: It is IMPERATIVE that you encourage anyone who has EVER had an issue with Maria, small or large, witnessed her neglect of horses, or who may have owned a horse that could be in her possession to contact the Mercer County Judge, Milward Dedman, at 859-734-6300, between 8 AM- 4:30 PM ET, or by email at mdedman@mercerky.com, to give him a statement and provide him with any supporting evidence that you may have against her or Charles. Please message me (Tara Cochran) to let me know if you do contact Judge Dedman. We need as much evidence as possible to continue to build a case against Maria and her father so that they will be prosecuted and the horses can be seized.
Until they are, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE THE HORSES WITH FOOD, WATER, VET OR FARRIER CARE, as this would make us liable for trespassing and would benefit the Borells! The good news here is that Charles and Maria have been advised by the Sheriff that they will face jail time if any of the horses go missing during this investigation.
I know so many have generously volunteered resources to foster, haul and feed them; unfortunately we are unable to utilize your services until the Mercer County Sheriff, Ernie Kelty, can authorize access. Once this access is granted, I will let you know what you can do to help. The Judge, Sheriff, County Attorney and State Agriculture Commissioner are all involved and all want to help, but they are held to the protocol that law mandates they follow in animal abuse cases.
This morning, Mercer County Animal Control picked up a dog that they had abandoned on the farm; this will only aid in the case against her. Although things aren’t coming together as quickly as originally anticipated, don’t be discouraged; this is a small set back but we are not backing down and feel confident that justice will FINALLY prevail for these animals. With nearly 600 shares of this post so far, I am simply blown away by the concern that the industry is (finally, in some cases) taking in this matter and would like to say THANK YOU on behalf of everyone who has worked tirelessly to keep the wheels of justice moving to rescue these horses and see the Borell’s get the punishment they have long deserved.
