Sad situations that are going to be happening too much...

Tell me again what we’d be missing if he could buy a suicidal clue in 1991?

Again, one person’s OMG NO is another person’s better off dead.

Next.

And, btw, what the hell EVER planet are you on that I personally owe PP a power bill? A fence? A round bale? GROW UP, PP< you can’t afford 'em. or move in with Butler, she’s big on delusions of grandeur and group hugs.
Whoa…

Compassionate conservatism? Without the “compassionate” I guess. Sick, selfish and uncalled for.

[edit]

Second, what scares me about this thread is that the pile-on could happen to any of us. Who here (who has been posting for any significant length of time) can say that, if hard times came, people wouldn’t be able to sort through their posts and come up with supposedly damning material? I’m sure you could mine - and it wouldn’t have any bearing on who I actually am as a person or a horseowner. Heck, I’d love to try it on a couple of the people erecting the gallows here, but I’ve got slightly better things to do with my time.

What people post on the internet is NOT their whole lives, and that’s true in both the positive and negative senses. Trying to be judge and jury based on that is just pretty darn rich.

I have no idea what the whole story is here, but I wish PP the best, because unlike some around here I actually try to remember the Golden Rule once in awhile.

Ok here’s what I am thinking. We should educate the lady on not breeding her horses, etc. Help her rehome some of the horses if she gets them back, and help her with shelter/fencing and setting up an account for vet bills. Perhaps she already doesn’t buy much food, but spends the money on horses. Maybe we could get her down to 3 horses and no breeding them anymore.
She’s in the middle of nowhere. Let’s just help out with fencing/shelter and have someone over to chat every once in a while and help her out.

You know what? I know some women who are in better physical shape that this women yet without a man around/teenage help they wouldn’t water the horses or fix anything due to tired/lazyness. Horses would be without water for several days and poop wouldn’t be picked up, etc even when these women had MONEY. What makes them better than pintopiaffe? Both women had excellent barns but would be too lazy to do things.

ok…I normally would not respond to things like this, but katarine? That post of yours, 10 or so back, is one of the most disturbing, vile things I have ever read on this forum. I HOPE I am reading you incorrectly, and that you are not REALLY insinuating that you wish a suicidal person, a person you considered a “close confidant” no less, had been successful…I REALLY did not read that correctly, did I? Unfortunately, I think I did. I despair for the human race sometime.

I don’t even know why I responded to this. The sharks are certainly in a feeding frenzy now…I thought this forum was better than this.

LOL ROFLMAO

One of my closest confidantes in high school went off the deep end afterward. Decided to kill himself. Failed. Tried again, failed. Told me, on suicide watch at a hospital, how he intended to get it right this time. I looked him in the eye and wished him luck.

Fast forward, 20+ years. He’s by Golly still alive, living in his mother’s basement, mooching off the system, wearing a Lindsey Lohan alcohol anklet thing, father of FIVE. A no good, drunk, useless, unemployed FATHER. He’s 40. He’ll by God live forever, it seems.

Tell me again what we’d be missing if he could buy a suicidal clue in 1991?

Almost forgot the golden “make sure you quote it” rule. Sorry for anyone who reads it twice and now has bleeding eyes.

This thread ought to be closed and/ or deleted. This is getting way out of hand, seriously, suicide? I’m appalled and disgusted by the road this discussion is heading down.

Thats my 2 cents.

Karma is a bitch, and you better hope she never finds out where you live.

Few things written on this board have disgusted me more than what you just said. And THANK YOU (sincerely), EqTrainer, for quoting it in its entirety, lest someone try to edit away their true colors.

This is, without a doubt, the ugliest thing I’ve ever read on this board. Hands down.

Kim

I’ve been cyber-bullied before, and it’s a miserable experience. This thread reeks of it. I can’t think of a scathing enough reply to Katarine.

I can’t judge PP or Animal Control (which as others have said, did what they had to, legally.)

That said, if you visited my mare’s breeders, your first impression might not be so good… hot tape fencing, barn that has fallen down, horses mostly relying on trees/windbreaks for shelter (but they are not in New England), some junk around including a couple of disintegrating mobile homes, foals born outside, and a house that looks, from the outside, like it’s straight out of a horror movie.

But if you look again, and talk to them, you’ll see that the electric tape fencing is in great repair, and HOT (and yes, they have three stallions and have never had an accidental pregnancy – but the stallions were all born on their farm and learned to respect that hot tape from the first day of their lives), the horses happy and if anything a bit fat, pastures big enough for the number of horses, the “junk” (most of which is left over from the property’s previous bats*** crazy owners) not in the paddocks or anywhere near the horses, and the house slowly being fixed up. But it’s clear they put money into having safe, utilitarian facilities for the horses first; the house has a fascinating history and it’s very interesting to talk about their early days of owning the property, when the house was uninhabitable.

Part of the difference is that there are two of them, while PP is on her own, and it’s easier to go off-track if you don’t have someone else helping you make the best decisions for your animals, especially when circumstances change for the worse.

I just hope this resolves well for PP and especially for her animals, whom she clearly loves and cares about.

Wow. I posted on the first page and stick by what I wrote no matter who it is but this is out of control. Humankind at its worst. Scary & sad at the same time.

I have nothing to offer but a few blankets if the sizes are right.

May PP find comfort in her true friends right now and lean on them for support. A weekend of help could remedy this situation and an emotional support system will be a must.

MEOW! Whatever. I just wish all the best for PP and that she can get over all the ugly stuff that has happened and ignore all the ugly stuff that has been said on this thread by people like you-chaltagor.

And just how you can conclude that because horses are bred by people for specific purposes that their need for survival is being ignored is beyond me.

Also, I doubt that a couple thousand years’ of domestication has wiped out several million years’ worth of survival instinct. How you can conclude THAT is beyond my ability to figure.

And as for the pasture being fenced-- wait- I thought the problem some of you had was that the pasture was NOT fenced, or was fenced in an unacceptable or inferior manner.

It doesn’t matter if the pasture is fenced or not-- if there are any trees around, or a building, etc. the horses will bunch up and “shelter” themselves using what is available. DUH. Anyway, though I think of anything north of Washington, DC as the cold frozen tundra-- I don’t think it is getting THAT cold even in Maine yet.

And there are lots of cases of groups of “feral” horses - tame horses that have “returned to the wild” that have managed to survive for generations-- let alone a week or so.

There was a story a year or so back of two horses that survived weeks abandoned in the snow in Canada- oh yeah, their owner was prosecuted for cruelty, and the horses were saved after some people in a small town dug a path through the deep snow to rescue them. But the point is that they survived weeks in the snow and they were TAME horses. They came out pretty skinny and worse for wear BUT THEY SURVIVED WEEKS IN THE SNOW WITHOUT ANY MAN-MADE SHELTER. WEEKS not days.

Just remember ALL of the so-called wild horses of North America are just descendants of “tame” horses that either escaped human captivity or were abandoned and “turned loose”.

Apparently they are doing so well after just a few hundred years, that our government spends millions chasing them, trapping them and killing them because some cattle barons using our public lands for personal gain complain that there are just “too many wild horses” competing for the available public grass.

And I don’t have a a problem with people having nice things–I have quite a few myself. But I do have a a problem with people who have nice things, but castigate others and label them as “unfit to have horses” because they appear not to be able to afford the same lifestyle or have the have the same nice things or same amount of nice things.

I believe one COTHer referred to PP’s place as a “pig sty” Well sweethearts, I’ve actually seen real pig styes-- and PP’s place doesn’t look one tenth as messy and muddy as a real pig sty where real pigs are housed in close quarters.

And the tradition of civil disobedience-- that is the deliberate ignoring or “breaking” of unjust or onerous laws has a long and hallowed tradition in America-- starting with the colonists’ protests against what they saw as unfair taxation “without representation” by staging the first “tea party” in Boston harbor. They actually trespassed, took private property and tossed it into the harbor-- yep, they actually broke some laws to protest what they believed were unfair laws.

I never said that laws are unAmerican-- you sure pulled that statement out of your *** chaltagor. But since you brought the subject up, I believe it is unAmerican to just stand by, and let unjust or onerous laws go unchallenged.

And the Constitution does provide citizens with the expectation of being safe from unlawful search and seizure.

If those “authorities” entered PP’s home, and left it unsecured so she could then fall prey to thieves-- I not only hope PP gets a good attorney-- I hope one volunteers to take her case pro bono, and that she sues the hell out of those responsible and gets a pile of money in the bargain.

Then maybe she can buy a picture perfect farm far away from nosey and clueless neighbors, and some of you will get off her case. But somehow I doubt some of you will be satisfied until you have villified her into oblivion
Anyone still remember Musical Jumper? Or Chanter? This is all sounding way too familiar.
I was thinking the same thing. I hope it ISN’T true because tack is rarely found after a theft and even buying cheap replacements add up. Call me Jaded because I remember too many Drama Stories from people caught red handed (or in our world starved horseless and piled high & deep Sh*t. Heart attacks, brain bleeds, aliens… )

Unless she left a number on her door how the heck would AC know how to reach her in KY???

When I lived in Maine it was generally 0-10 degrees every day mid Dec. through beg. of Feb. and that didn’t count the windchill or any snow/rain. Horses need some kind of shelter, turnout blankets (good ones) or windbreaks. They also need to be able to move around to keep warm and have lots of hay to generate heat. Probably they’d be OK if she had them all on the pasture area (if those pictures were of her property and yes there were foals) with multiple rolls of good hay and turnout blankets. But if the LAW says shelter then you better get some shelter.

I hope this is a wake up call and she can get her act together without any charges. I’d rather see her sell some horses than have them legally taken away ya know?

To whomever suggested we’d all jump for a free trip. Most of us I hope would only go if we could otherwise afford it. Pet sitters cost big bucks, stocking up for an absence costs, taking off work costs. I’d LOVE to go to HI but even if it were all paid I still couldn’t afford to go because of all that other stuff above. I’d have to say No thankyou. Then go cry.

Random woohoo-suicide post aside, it seems everyone needs to take a deep breath and back away from the computer.

We don’t know if PP is the victim of bad circumstance, physical health, theft, and the economy -or- a person who is deliberately neglecting beloved horses while posing behind an eloquent screen personna.

We don’t know if AC is corrupt -or- truly helping horses out of a dire situation.

We don’t know if the neighbors are idiotic db’s (as people who are screaming “don’t judge” on here called them) -or- well-meaning people who have seen too much and would do what any horse lover would do in their situation.

If you’re saying don’t judge, say it all the way around until the facts come out. It could be a truly unfortunate situation. If could be MusicalJumper and Chanter all over again. The biggest lesson seems to be if you are eloquent and likable online you are much more likely to be defended than if you can’t put two sentences together. Regardless of truth.

I’ve spent the last 3 hours reading this and I can’t believe where this has gone. SHAME on many of you!

Karma is a b*tch, and I would hate to see what would happen if you fell on hard times…

walks away in disgust

Katarine, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I can’t believe someone could THINK such a cruel thing, much less put it in writing. I don’t think there are words to describe the disgust I feel right now. I have an alchoholic brother that has been suicidal at times, but according to you I guess he should just do it. You wrote such a vile thing with no regards towards those of us that may have been dealing with a suicidal loved one or a loved one that committed suicide. I hope kharma bites you in the @ss.

I have a friend that’s an alcoholic who is one of the best banjo pickers in the nation. He was in the army, has served our country well. He is the father of three children that he never sees, although he has tried (but I do not blame his ex-wife for not wanting to deal with him).

He is an incredible person even with all of his flaws. He has at times been suicidal, at times homicidal, but he has NEVER been boring. The world would have really missed something without him.

To those of you screaming hypocrite…do you really think if this had been someone other than a “well known and much loved” coth poster you would be as helpful and supportive as you are being? No. You all would have been screaming animal cruelty, as you were before someone pointed out this was about PP. So stop calling those not immediately jumping on the “oh poor pp we must give her ______ or offer 100% support so she can keep her horses!1!!111!!!” hypocrites.

I hope the best for her horses & hope that PP can get the help she needs.

CATS !

Does anyone know what happened to the kitties ???

Yours in sport,

Lynn
