Looks like 8 out of 10 set-ups around here. Especially if I drive an hour or two south into real farm country…
Same here. It’s working country, not Kentucky stud farm pageantry.

Well, nont to pick nits but no, that doesn’t look like grass. It looks like inedible weeds.
but it does look like a lot more moving around space.
However I can see from that photo how her horses keep playing Houdini. The fencing is pretty much weeds with a top rail of tape. There’s no way that tape can stay hot with that much of it touching plants.
I believe that is correct. Two different posters … one seeming to be reasonable (eli - the OP of this thread) and the other is very questionable (the Mods merged the threads and I lost track of the “OMG” OP poster).
Sorry Eli! I’d pay a cash reward to the person who outs SayItAin’tSo. Regardless of the situation with PP. Just on general principle.

I thought there was a decent amount of what looks like grass on the left side of the driveway. Yes there is ragweed that needs an encounter with a bush hog, and once that’s done a second strand of tape, but it’s certainly not as bad as many of the animal keeping facilities around here - most are dry lots because the grass has been abused to the point of disappearing.
I’m disgusted that this thread keeps coming back. The behavior shown by many of the posters is reprehensible. PP does not deserve to have every life decision she has ever made judged and ripped apart here on a freaking Internet bulletin board by people she has never even met. No one deserves that. No one. What has happened is a tragedy, whatever all of the facts may be. And we do not have all of the facts.
What if something unforeseen happened to you? Would you want it broadcast all over the Internet in exactly the same way we’ve been doing here? Would you like to be ripped to shreds and analyzed on COTH? Would you like to have your home address and Google Earth pictures of your house broadcast on COTH? Internet bullying has found another new low.
Exactly.
+1 on that Lisa.

Thank you. May I make a donation to a charity of your choice? Seriously. IM me. Unless you want the cash!
I hope SayItAin’tSo’s posts are saved. Since she deleted them.
It’s a lot nicer than 8 out of 10 “horse properties” in my hood! The mountains of Appalachia… they produce some unusual homesteads.
The neighbor really sounds like a total dbag. Bad neighbors can make or break you. I have some that were a nightmare for me for years, culminating in the husband assaulting me in my own barn after someone ran over their blind cat that they kept outside, and their home was right on top of the drive.
I promise I didn’t run over the cat as I’d had to park my truck and loaded trailer on my steep driveway many times to get out and move the poor thing more than once. As much as I hated these people, I still carried water and a sponge and banamine through their field when I saw their old gelding down, thrashing, refluxing and soaked. I got them out of their house and waited with them for a vet. I alerted them when their old mare woke me up by thrashing against their shed and helped them get her up and again waited for the vet. I got them out of their house when I saw their other mare had just foaled in the field. They’d bred her and didn’t think she took so hadn’t fed her for her pregnancy. You can imagine how things went.
I have untangled their horses from their saggy barbed wire fencing and threw hay to them this brutal winter because no one showed up for days and days. These are people I can’t stand, but you don’t let animals suffer because you don’t like their owners. What kind of neighbor does nothing at all for animals? I could call AC, but around here, they’d look at the hay in the barn and say, “see ya”.
PPs neighbors sound clueless, and nasty as well. Do they have no horse people on the animal control team that would know more than the totally ignorant neighbor who thinks horses live on apples? Also, I’ve worked nights and I wasn’t going to be answering the door for the UPS guy anytime before noon the next day. Night shift doesn’t = recluse.

Not really.
The ACO for my town stopped by last summer to get my number in case he had questions about horses - he admitted to being totally uncomfortable around them and knowing very little. At least he stopped to ask if he could call me for advice if it was needed!
There was a horse being starved in the Northern part of the state this spring who was seen by an AWP investigator. She deemed him fine - his hip bones stuck out because he was “large framed” (like a cow). The horse was later euthanized due to a combination of starvation and complications from untreated heaves.
For being a farming state, there is seemingly little knowledge about horses in the AWP program.

Here’s a streetview of her property: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=dedham+me&sll=42.293564,-59.0625&sspn=36.274918,92.724609&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Dedham,+Hancock,+Maine&ll=44.650383,-68.620262&spn=0,0.022638&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=44.650302,-68.620347&panoid=hm5iQgkVMzCr6CB7FbS4ow&cbp=12,140.18,,0,8.16
You can also see it from above… doesn’t look like a predominantly wooded tract. You know, I realized that the news pictures showed frames of shelters without the covering. Those coverings can be removed and replaced, so maybe she has them off for much of the year and replaces them in winter.
I’m not tattling to the mods yet, but Yikes! Yikes, my friends!
I don’t care which side you are on. I think posting pictures of someone’s place is out of bounds in a discussion like this one.
I hope you will reconsider and remove the link, 'cause here’s the thing: It could happen to any of us. In this case, someone who may or may not know this is going on, who may or may not have done a whole lot wrong is now having their home open to public inspection. Do you really want the place where you live to be fair game should you happen to piss someone off?
COTH doesn’t stop the rest of the internet or bad journalism or neighborly feuds from happening. But it can refuse to participate, even inadvertently.
There seems to be a new “update” that suggests that PP STILL isn’t home.
I left a comment that she has been there since the weekend and wondering if they are getting their “updates” from her neighbours?
Last I looked, they hadn’t posted my comment, but we’ll see if they’ve got the cajones.
If this bit of reporting is as correct as the rest, it sure makes one wonder doesn’t it?
NJR
I was a little torn, but pictures of her place have already been posted in the article, along with her address. The streetview just gives a different perspective.

Ditto.
Hello folks, you do realize the pics that were taken earlier in the week are current, and the ones that Cool Meadows posted are pics taken who knows how long ago.
I own or have owned 3 properties, one of them has pics from 2003, another from 2006 and another from 2005, so, although I would agree the cool meadows post looks decent as far as turnout, the fence is not staying charged with those weeds, and secondly, who knows how old those pics really are???
I will repeat, I don’t give a squat about the generator, neighbors, etc.
what is important to me is the fact she either has a charge pending and another conviction, and that an aco has been involved with her situation for at least a year and the condition of the property. Those are facts.
And, in her own words, to find her closet full of wet clothes that are not salvagable…please, who lives like that…HELLLO, ever heard of mold? If a human is living in that kind of condition, pray tell what are the animal living quarters like? Yes, for some of us, barn chores come first and our houses might have one dust ball too many, but a fricking leaking roof???
I am sorry, but I am not getting on the poor PP she has been attacked, there is a personal vendetta out to get her bandwagon. I don’t even give a shiz about the person who posted on the article linking to here…I mean, do you really think that people are that dumb? and don’t realize that the person who posted that might have a grudge. Who the frick cares…I don’t. I look at facts, not all this extraneous stuff to condemn or condone.
look at the facts, not all the extraneous bull to form an opinion.
Yes, I feel badly for PP, I feel badly for anyone who has deteriorated to a living standard like what I saw…it is 3rd world, and should not be happening in our country.
But, she also continued to gather in more horses to breed more horses, when we have so many more horses than we can find good homes for.
On that alone, I do not one bit condone her.
The address is available in the news articles as well as photos of the property. With that info anybody can find the Google Streetview pictures themselves within minutes. It isn’t like someone went over there and took photos to post here; and even if they had, it is perfectly legal to take photos from a public street or right of way and post or publish them.
I would like to know who is “acothmember”.
The newspaper/television crew gave all her private info and showed how her property looked that day. The google/map street view surely gives a different impression.
Assuming this all goes to court - when is the soonest that could happen?
Quite a few people keep bringing up PP’s prior conviction and this ongoing case. Perhaps these people have never heard of cases of AC going after someone who keeps their horses outside or doesn’t blanket or lets their horses get dirty. Just because someone has a conviction doesn’t mean they actually did anything wrong. It just means they annoyed some neighbors and AC isn’t horsey enough to know what’s what.
Incongruency detected.
Listen, it’s easy to get sidetracked but you have to consider this legal action taken against PP from strictly a legal standpoint. Which has nothing to do with moldy clothes. We have to wait and see if they can prove the horses were without food and water. Their own pictures show horses who don’t appear dehydrated or starved.
See post #758
Or have never heard of people who use people such as ACO’s, Board of Health, conservation commissions etc to harass neighbors.
Hoo-boy.
Um, yeah.
I can see how carefully you wait for facts before forming an opinion. And its so easy to do, when all you seem to need to acertain your “facts” is a few paragraphs from what could be a biased report containing vague references to “charges” and “convictions” which no one knows anything about, YET.
Alas, you have “your” facts, so have at that judging now!
And oh yeah - I have a section of leaky roof. It kind a bums when it drips on the kitchen counter, and I’m saving up the $5K or so to have it replaced, but I guess I should just condemn my place now! How could any respectable human being live a few months with a leaking roof! (hangs head in shame)
Y’know, I’m not entirely sure some of my closets in this 2500 square foot condemned palace of mine don’t have mold on an article of clothing or two, either. :o I mean what kind of despicable person doesn’t sack out every closet in their house every month?! What could I be thinking!!! Oh, the shame!:sadsmile:
