Sad situations that are going to be happening too much...

MB - I’m sorry if you thought I was trying to start a fight. I wasn’t  I do agree with you, and DH and I are going to extend an offer to PP to take our tractor and bush hog over there. While I’ve been in touch with PP via email for a couple years, I’ve not actually been to her farm yet. Otherwise I’m sure DH would’ve loaded up the tractor long before now

I can only hope that good things come out of this nightmare for PP - be it re-evauating what she can and can’t do on her own, a revamping of her horse facilities, a wake up call for her friends and folks who care about her to take a bit more time out of their busy schedules to lend a hand, even if she doesn’t ask, what ever it may be.

Regardless of if she intentionally let things get to this state or not, no one deserves the public flaming she’s been receiving. NO ONE.

I can only wish the best for her in this really awful time.

True story.

I have an outbuilding that I use for storage. It’s pretty junky, and I don’t go in there very often. One year, I decided to clean it out. There were shutters covering the windows, and when I moved shutters I found a completely desicccated possum. God knows how long it had been in there without food and water before it died. Or how it got in and couldn’t get back out. I do occasionally open the door and leave it open all night. But there the poor, dried out corpse lay trapped on the window sill.

So I can certainly see how a closet that is never opened could spring a leak and not be noticed.

Wow… Vineyridge… you need to post that update to the Murder Hollow thread… just wow… I am flabbergasted that poor woman … I don’t want to hijack this thread, so hopefully you can post that update to the other thread for discussion.

My god.
I thought COTH had the occasional tendency to overreach on the snarkiness at times.
I just discovered Catchride (well, I’d heard of it, never been there). It makes the worst of COTH look like Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

I will not be going back. (Which I am sure breaks their little black hearts).

If I’m reading this correctly, FrenchFrytheEQHorse is the one to first post about her here.

MB, in all fairness, I don’t know that PP has either had the time or inclination to seek assistance with her place and the upkeep it so desperately needs. I recall her mentioning having difficulty accepting help from people, so even if friends have offered, perhaps she has not felt comfortable accepting?

Also, as much as I’m a “pull up your big girl panties” type of lady, I want us to all remember that we do not know what kind of pain any other person endures. We also have to understand that regardless of any prejudice against the diagnosis of fibromyalgia (yes, there is quite a lot, actually), it doesn’t change the pain a person that experiences the symptoms classified as such.

In fact, suggesting that someone is capable of doing something they are not, is very demoralizing and undercuts any attempts on the pain sufferer’s part to verbalize their suffering to others and request/receive help.

I do not know PP from Adam’s housecat - or any on the farm for that matter. I don’t have access to her medical records and honestly, its none of my business or yours (general). I think if she says she cannot do something for physical reasons, she should be taken at face value unless she shows/proves differently.

PP wont be returning for a veeeeery long time (if ever) after reading all this. If I were her I would be mortified by the comments being made.

Im sitting on the fence with this one, I do want to say that its getting totally out of hand though.

Lucinda I agree with you…way out of hand. Regardless of how her physical and financial situation developed…if it was me…publically losing MY animals and getting trashed to the whole world would make me seriously suicidal.
Watched the ‘interview’ on the news-and I wanted to bitch slap Vanessa Davenport from one of this state to the other. [edit] Lady Karma is a cast iron bitch Vanessa-and she has YOUR name. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame…:frowning:

Kitties …
A litter of kittens? Were the Itty Bitty cats spayed/neutered? Where did a little of kittens come from? I thought it was just the grown cats and horses left there for the WEG trip.
MistyBlue,

I hope the kitties are all ok !

Thank you for the feline news …hopefully we will have
another update soon …

Yours in sport,

Lynn

I’m not tattling to the mods yet, but Yikes! Yikes, my friends!

I don’t care which side you are on. I think posting pictures of someone’s place is out of bounds in a discussion like this one.

I hope you will reconsider and remove the link, 'cause here’s the thing: It could happen to any of us. In this case, someone who may or may not know this is going on, who may or may not have done a whole lot wrong is now having their home open to public inspection. Do you really want the place where you live to be fair game should you happen to piss someone off?

COTH doesn’t stop the rest of the internet or bad journalism or neighborly feuds from happening. But it can refuse to participate, even inadvertently.
but… that is a google streetview. and since the newspapers published her address ANYONE could look it up quick as anything (and i don’t know why i didnt in the beginning)

and i am actually GLAD it was posted here. why? becuase it makes asses out of every mean SOB that has been attacking and accusing PP of so many crazy things!

my feeling has been from the start that something isn’t “right” … plus i think innocent til proven guilty is one of the founding ideas of our country.

the truth will come out.

for anyone in touch with PP - please send her my best wishes and again, if there is anything i can do from CA please let me know. this situation sucks big time.

and no, no strings on my offer - if you need anything please PMme here and i will do the best i can to help.

Ditto.

Hello folks, you do realize the pics that were taken earlier in the week are current, and the ones that Cool Meadows posted are pics taken who knows how long ago…
you talk about waiting for facts and then you speculate like crazy about dates!

i would imagine that anyone who knew here horses could date that pic quite easily…

btw: re: date of the google street image. it cant be that old…Google street has only been around for a couple years. in fact my hometown was one of the first towns posted and that only got put up 3-4 years ago.

it has taken years for Google to get so much put up - and the further out of urban centers you go the longer it took for them to get the images up. i would image there are still parts of the US not posted. the image is also copyrighted 2010.

my best guess would be it is from the last year.

It’s hard to tell from a few pics what the condition of the horses and place actually is, while I have met aco who had no clue, I can picture a situation where if they thought the horses were abandoned with no water they would feel the need to act. the fencing does look pretty inadequate in the few pics that have been posted.
I had a situation last year that was a nightmare and if it wasn’t for good neighbors, I’m sure I could have very easily met criteria for having animals removed from my home. For the 3 weeks I was dealing with this situation, the horses got minimal care and were kept in their stalls, I got home every other day or so and cleaned the stalls and let them out for an hour or 2, the 3 dogs were locked up in the house with a 50 lb bag of dog food, water bowls all over and the bath tub filled with water. My neighbors fed and watered horses once a day. It was the best I could do at the time. Granted I was not on vacation with time to plan this disaster however, when i left my house I had locked everyone up and left the house intending to get back that day, thank god I got in touch with my neighbor when things took a turn for the worse and she was able to feed and water.Needless to say my place was a dump for a few weeks, I still have work to do and it’s been 6 months, the stalls have to be leveled because they spent the day digging holes. I don’t even want to discuss the repairs from basically outdoor dogs being kept in a house for long periods without going out.The neighbor was afraid to let them out but she did say she checked on them, who knows, I let them out when i was able to get home.I am postive she fed my horses. And in the midst of this i was down to about 6 bales of hay, it hadn’t been delivered earlier because of a snow storm and before the disaster struck i was trying to get my hay delivered, so I had to also say to my enighbor and by the way after you feed my horses coud you call this guy and figure out how to get hay to my place. So there was probably a day or 2 if ac had shown up they would have found dogs locked in a house going berserk and eating the kitchen, horses standing in manure and no hay in my barn. What if my neighbor had called ac instead.

Yup, I am an empty nester, with a big nest. One of our daughters was coming home for a visit so I opened up her bedroom. Evidently the heat pump in the attic above her room had been malfunctioning for some time and the drywall ceiling was about to collapse.

While we did fix the heat pump the ceiling is still bowed. It’s not real high on my list.

Stop the PMs…I’m not Holly/SIF!
I know you are not Holly/SIF - who in the world had that ridiculous idea??!!:lol: Trust me, you are NOTHING like Holly/SIF!!

Things work is mysterious ways with respect to AC-- at least as I have seen it in NY State and PA.

It usually takes a very aggressive person to light a fire under the AC’s butt and keep it burning. The strange thing-- at least in the two cases I have seen-- is that the animal’s condition had far less to do with the AC’s involvement.

One thing that makes me sad about this is that I’ll bet the neighbors waited until pintopiaffe was away. It’s a whole lot easier to confiscate horses when the owner is absent. It’s also a whole lot easier to find something fubar when the owner is away. As I say, most AC cases where something actually gets done are very long, drawn out affairs where the animal owner has been watched closely (at least by unhappy neighbors) for a very long time.

If the animals were found without water that’s a deal breaker and it should be. But man!-- those horses look to be in far better shape than those I have seen left on a farm.

It just bothers me that this could turn into such a [storm] precisely because people waited until pintopiaffe was at such a distinct disadvantage by not being at her farm at the time of he confiscation.

It makes me sad, too, to think that pintopiaffe has to return home to this situation…and also the one on COTH. Everyone wants to have some part of the world where their history (or a trumped up bad one) isn’t known. If someone feels isolated, that’s even more important. In this case-- especially because the facts are unknown-- I think it’s important to preserve the possibility of escaping full and premature vilification.

Remember I cited the Murder Hollow seizure about excesses with Animal Services agencies back a few pages?

Here’s the outcome of that seizure:

Just so you’ll understand why I’m really skeptical about all this.
This is really so horrible I can hardly bear to think about it. How does anyone protect oneself against such evil?

OK, I think I may have pumped my head overnight!

Anyone who knows who I am on “other” boards will know that I am about the LAST person:yes: in the cyber UNIVERSE to come out in any sort of defense of SiByl (AKA Silver Image Farms), but where is the evidence that she started that thread or that she is the one who is the “ACotHMember” feeding crap on the news comments?

A few people suggested it to me a few days back, and I asked them the same question. Where’s the proof? Isn’t that what we are trying to get in PP’s case? The facts before blaming someone?

(Wait:Did Hell freeze over that I am defending SiByl and no one told me? I’ll have to stick my head outside… )

I believe that before anyone is found “guilty”, either PP or Sybil, there ought to be proof, not just conjecture, or hope (Or a really good LIKELIHOOD based on past performance, in one case…)

So, proof folks? Just wondering. Or ignore me and carry on.

I for one, will continue to support PP and be secure in my knowledge that although we have very different standards, she would NEVER have left those horses alone to fend for themselves. Never. And she didn’t . There is more here, people. You all will just have to wait, because giving the details at this point will not help PP or the horses which is what it is all about right now.

Just know things are being taken care of and not everything is what it seems.

To those who have PM’d me, if you are still interested, send me your e-mails and I will send them on to the lady who is co-ordinating things.

A short story for you all from my own life, which may illustrate my own UNIQUE outlook on these situations…

3 weeks ago, I did ALL THE RIGHT THINGS IN A SITUATION and mistakenly ended up in a situation that I never in my wildest dreams would have thought could happen. But it DID,and until the wheels of “The System” worked their way through, I was virtually a prisoner although totally innocent of ANYTHING. THAT little stint really opened my eyes to what can happen when you get caught up in The System for whatever reason. As they say inStar Trek. Resistance is futile. You WILL be assimilated.

One person in Authority makes a mistake or checks the wrong box and BAM! you’re suddenly being told you have “One phone call, ma’am…”. You start to laugh and realize they aren’t kidding.

Eye opening and terrifying. What if the NEXT person in Authority makes a mistake or is having a bad day?

Luckily, I had the money and the lawyer who put a quick stop to that whole ordeal and apologies were said all around…Apologies, I might add thatwould not have been forthcoming had not I had enough high-powered people on my side to make things very uncomfortable for them…

But someone who didn’t have those rsources would have been screwed.
I’m still dealing with bad nerves from that.

DON’T think the “system” can’t happen to YOU, because it can. Even if you do EVERYTHING right. And when you do a few things a bit below the radar or someone has it out for you or wants what you’ve got and has a better understanding of the law than you do? Well, perhaps then you have even more chance of the System rolling over you.

No one is above The System. Nobody.
Yes, absolutely some people deserve it and the AC does a wonderful and useful job. No question. But even they said on the TV that there were “starving horses that needed them”, but they chose to take these first…That in itself makes on wonder what their motives were doesn’t it? WHy didn’t they just fill water (if there was none),and throw hay and pay someone to stay for the duration? Cheaper than taking them all, no?

Anyway…not going on.
