Sad situations that are going to be happening too much...

mbm, I only saw one horse – the brown one – and it looked thin. Nothing speculative about it, purely an observation. But if you insist on a speculation here’s one for you – when they start getting furry they are usually thinner than they look.

@ 'rabbitz - Yes.

@ Moonlit - Was she gone in May, when (states the article) that she was fined $750. ?

She has been pretending to be a cop for years: last I checked a civilian dispatcher isn’t a cop. :~/

how did SIB get back in here?

Doesn’t seem odd. I’d bet there were lots of MyPrettyPony people who were after the pinto as soon as they saw him on TV. The plain bay, perhaps not so much.

What non-horsepeople see isn’t always what is really happening.

We have a lot of horses. Some of our fencing aint pretty, but all of it is hot taped, serviceable and will keep even the stallions where they belong, but the casual passer-by is suddenly a fencing specialist. Call the authorities, horses could get OUT!

We have a lot of foals. Some of the mares start to look a tiny bit ribby near weaning time. They are all out on grass and have access to round bales and water 24/7, when they aren’t stalled for grain. You’d be shocked at how many people call the authorities because they are STARVING.

Horses laying flat out all afternoon in the sun. Call the authorities, they are all dead and we aren’t doing a thing to help them.

Horse carcass “hidden” under a cooler. Call the POLICE!!! OMG! They are KILLING HORSES! Explain that the horse died from natural causes and we are waiting for the rendering truck and have covered the body for the owner’s benefit.

But, in the meantime, all the neighbours have seen the police/authorities come and gossip starts. Nothing you can do really except be sure you never do anything that is wrong, but that won’t stop the gossip, believe me.

Also, the officers HAD to take the horses IF there was no water. I believe it’s a rule.

Has her website been pulled?
The web-site shown as her home page in PP’s profile has not worked for months. The one in her signature seems to be a newer one that’s under construction, and shows a link to the photos she’s taken at WEG.

The rearing horse (1st link) is an offspring of the stallion in the second link.

Wonder where the stallion is? Did she bring him to her teacher’s place before she left?

One of those horses is one I bred and sold to PP…the cream looking one in the pics. I agree that they do not look starved to me. I knew things were tight financially for PP but to the point of seizure??? This is nuts.

If those horses are to be disposed of somehow and Jaime can’t get them back, I want my filly back. Does anyone know who to contact??? I will try to track someone down tomorrow and find out where these horses are. I don’t want this filly to vanish as so many of our breed have. They are way way too rare.

Edited to add that Jaime has been at WEG as a volunteer. I’ve met her and she’s a very nice person. I just can’t reconcile this article with the person I know.

SIB, you are an evil bitch…sayitaintso!

I’m glad this is out in the open and her animals have been rescued. It has been quite hard to keep quiet while she posted all over this board as if she were a breeding expert. Even worse was reading about her breeding more horses, and didn’t she even get some poster here to give her a mare? What a fraud and a good reminder that you can’t trust everyone on the Internet.

I wonder if fugly will pick up this story, hope so.
Why did I think she lived in Michigan?

There are lots of fakes on the internet and unfortunately some on horse boards.
Whomever left those horses without food and water should be banned for owning horses ever again. Oh and make that banned from owning or possessing any animals.

but, we DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED…

and innocent til proven guilty, remember?

A close personal family friend of ours had some of their animals seized as well (some well-cared for show animals, the others highly-bred and maintained breeding animals, btw) while they were away (they were well-cared for in their absence). Splattered all over the news and a huge fiasco to have them returned. All healthy animals, no reason for the seizure (the SPCA actually illegally and was wrongful to seize them on several counts - judges and vets all agree), but plenty of SPCA-greed-related reasons for them to be seized that happened to fall in line with an ex SO with a vendetta. She won of course, but it was a massive battle to do so. I do not know how this person has carried on, particularly through all the public humiliation and whilst also battling a divorce and a death in the (close) family. People had no idea of the real story and judged her on the (false and very incorrect) media reports. I would trust this individual with any one of my animals. Guess what. There is always another side to the story (even when it seems difficult to believe another legitimate side could be possible). For all we know, there is another side to this one as well.

Of the photos provided, I saw well-trimmed hooves and good weight. We have no idea what happened to cause this seizure or whether or not the owner is at any fault. Read the story, consider it sad if everything in the article is to be considered accurate (doubtful), consider there is likely another side to the story, and move on. Geez.

And whomever owns those horses has already been fined (and found guilty) earlier the Bangor article says.

So this person, whomever she is, has a “prior conviction.”

And leaving horses w/o water? Don’t tell me they look “good” when they don’t have water to drink.

The last video posted looks like an old bathrub. PP in her thread of events before going to WEG mentioned a shopping trip that also included picking up
a 100 gallon water tank…which sounds like someone trying to make sure her
horses have more water sources so her sitter perhaps needs to make only
one trip a day. Who knows…let’s wait for PP to come back and let us know
what went wrong.

Who wants her horses?
i do not know. all i know is they said in the story and it was also written on the web page that those particular animals were not available but they had plenty others that were.

i just find it odd that there are being asked for those horses enough for them to say that.

The horses didn’t have water to drink! How can anyone blame the economy for not giving her horses water?

Excuses, excuses.

I do remember Jaime posting that the filly I sold her was getting out of the electric fence frequently and that she had been cited for that. She even posted a thread on Around the Farm on how to keep the filly in. That could be her “conviction.” We horsepeople all know that neighbors can sometimes be meddlesome pests. I do think we need to hear Jaime’s side of this story.

I think I found the Animal Welfare group’s phone number and will call in the morning. If these horses are to be disposed of or adopted, as the filly’s breeder hopefully I can get her back. UGH…what a mess.

I think this will have to be repeated quite frequently, and even then it may not sink in.

scheherazade, if you believe everything you read, I have a Nigerian fortune to share with you.

you know, the internet is great for a lot of stuff, but this circling of the vultures is really just gross.

its like people hope someone does something wrong so they can revile them etc.

it is just sick, and not very - well - nice.

Is there any particular reason you are posting this in every forum?

The horses look a good weight, I would guess the sitter never showed up.

if you read what PP posted before she left she had a farm sitter that was supposed to water while she was gone.

yes, we are all ultimately responsible for our animals, but sometimes you have to trust others.

and if the sitter did not show up i hope they are the ones that get prosecuted, not PP.

eta, i do a lot of “sitting” for folks that go away… should all those folks never ever leave because they are going to worry about being turned in for abuse? or are they trusting me to take care of their animals?

people, all i can say is think about if this were YOU - how would YOU feel?

still waiting for this and the other threads to get locked - some on mods!!

I have gone away for a week and left my animals in the care of someone I thought was responsible. Turned out not to be a good idea.
I’ve also had to call Animal Control - I showed them the condition of the horse. Took them MONTHS to do anything about it.
Interesting that the SPCA was there so quickly.
