I have a saddle chariot. I don’t have anything to compare it to because it is my only cart. I am planning on getting a more traditional cart at some point to compare.
My experience so far is- it is rock solid, built to last. Off road it is great, does what it says on the tin.
My ponies are so chilled with it, no need for blinkers and they a bitless pulling it. I love having the option to separate the ponies from the cart in an instant if I need to.
It certainly doesn’t disconnect ever time you get off. There is a pull cord that you can pull should you need to. I have never needed to.

It is comfy and great fun. I will be interested to try out other more traditional carts in the future to compare but I haven’t experienced a problem with the saddle chariot so far. It has lived up to all of its expectations.
It really is a robust bit of kit.
I had mine adjusted in size for a smaller pony and went to the guys house who makes them. He’s a lovely guy and spends a lot of time and hard work making them. They are more expensive because it is a small operation and not cheap materials used.
He’s not someone who is out to make a load of money at the expense of anyone. They are priced in accordance to how much they cost to build and the time taken.

I’d be really interested to hear from someone who has the actual experience of trying both old and new style of cart to compare.
I think going on opinion is not going to give facts. You never really and truly know until you try something for yourself.

OLD THREAD!! Even 15 YEARS later, I still have not seen a saddle chariot in the USA. Not a whisper of advertising either, nor any copycat designs from other carriage builders.

BEE227 seems to have just joined the COTH forums a few hours ago. Not sure why folks think not using blinkers, going bitless while driving, is so wonderful they need to brag on it? It works in certain settings, under particular conditions, no big deal. Not a good choice in many other settings or driving uses.

I had never heard of one, and it doesn’t look like something I would want to drive in. One picture that came up in my search had a bicycle seat and a strap that holds you in. Nope, nopity, nope, not for me. I guess the wheelchair version would be OK, but I like something more substantial. Give me a well-built easy entry cart and a pony or mini, and I’m happy.

I couldn’t believe the bare feet! Has this person never been around horses?
