Sandwich cases?

I’ve searched the forum, but I think the threads have been deleted. A while ago there were a few postings about sandwich cases, or saddle pouches, and they weren’t terribly pricey.

I think one was about $25. With fuel prices, and driving 220 miles round trip, that’s about all I can spend out of my hunting budget!

Anyone remember those links? I need a black one to match my black saddle (yes, I know purists are cringing, but I can’t give up my treeless Ansur!)

Thanks!

OK, I think I found the one I was thinking of.

It’s 7.5" x 8", so that should be big enough for a flask and a few essentials. All leather; comes in brown and black.

That looks like a fairly decent one for the price, except it’s not a sandwich case it’s a saddle bag.
To be correct, sandwich cases are square and much smaller.
I ordered one off one of the other threads that you referred to, and wasn’t very happy with the quality. Of course it was only about $30, and was correctly shaped etc, but it was pretty crappy. I would have embarrassed to hunt with it, and I"m hardly a Rockefeller or anything.
I’ve been looking for a correct, affordable sandwich case for awhile too. And no the $400 one from Horse Country is not affordable.
But if I can find one I’ll post it.

Bartville Harness Shop in PA (717) 529-6992 has one $72. I comes in Havana but I have a feeling if you called them up they could make you one in Black. And there stuff is so nice!!!

I found one on Ebay but it was still quite pricey. Remember it is proper for the ladies to have the canteen which is a case, tin, and Flask. I went cubbing last weekend without it, I guess it’s time to start figuring on what to put in my flask.

Tom’s Saddle Shop in I think Big Piney WY or maybe Daniel. He makes nice ones at a reasonable price, was under 50$.

I found one of those old threads with a website on it.
it was www.oakdalehorsefarm.com and then go to the tack sale. They have a sandwich case on there. It’s $150, but looks very nice.

Oh, that one is beautiful. Good thing I already have a couple. Be warned the flask is very expensive to buy on it’s own. I got a very nice one but it cost me the earth. I think I got it form Middleburg tack. Their complete canteens are $695.

Has Ladies’ for $75, Men’s for $90 (I don’t think any of them include the actual flask or sandwich tin)

Haven’t bought won from them so not sure of the quality …

Rt66- I’ll ditto the Bartville Tack equipment. I bought their sandwich case last spring and it is very nice and traditional. Levi and his brother Eli are wonderful to work with! I have also purchased a hunting bridle from them- as a result three other hunt members ordered bridles from them. Most recently he made me a wire cutter case which is perfect! The way they customized it for me makes it a treasured keepsake!! It will be on my bedside table in a nursing home if I make it that long!!!

Bartville loves working with foxhunters!!! They get two thumbs up and all my business for hunt related leather products, very affordable!!!

Good luck!

Could one of you with the Bartville one please post a picture?

citydog- check your PM box.

Bear in mind that pockets are free and always correct ( except in appointments classes.)

Yeah, I’ve tried putting spare batteries for the radio and camera in the sandwich Tin and they rattle around and make an awful noise. Sometimes pockets are best but you need to watch overloading your pockets as you can put too much stress on the stitching. But a little pocket flask in the pocket of your coat is much cheaper than a full blown canteen.

Origin of word ratcatcher

Off the topic…What is the origin of the word ratcatcher???

Skeeter’s Tack and Leather Shop in Warrenton, VA makes a lovely classic sandwich case for less than $50. He made me a custom one in deep brown leather to specifically fit my engraved brandy flask, and I had him make me another one in a lighter leather. Both are GORGEOUS! I’m always hard pressed to decided which one to use on hunting days.

No website, but you can find the shop’s address and phone number on the web.

Sandwich case

MFHColonialFoxhounds has one for sale on the Charlottesville craigslist, gorgeous, call her !

Sandwich Case !

It’s on the Richmond craigslist, not Charlottesville, along with several other closet cleaning tack items !

I was thinking about getting a sandwich case (just for hacking but I’m practicing up to be a fox hunter  and I think it would make a great gift for my husband to buy me ;);)), and saw the one in the above link. Traditionally, what is the difference between a ladies case and a man’s case?

Also, SLW, where do you keep or attach you wire cutter case? That one seems like a good idea even for hacking.
And I’d love to see a picture if you have time to PM me.

Sandwich Cases!

My friend Rachel who is extremely talented makes sandwich cases. You can have them in a variety of leather colors to match your saddle. If anyone would like more info email me and I will give you her contact info.
I bought one last weekend and took it hunting and recieved many compliments, no one knew that it cost a fraction of what they would in catalog.
