Got my package today and tore into it tonight as I will not be home for Christmas…

@tarheelmd07 Wow!! Thank you so much for everything!! I Love LOVE LOVE the wraps and belt/neck strap, I wish I had pics of the whole pink ensemble, but the wraps will be fantastic with these bell boots, which the mares already own.
The bit warmer will absolutely used this cold New England weather, and we are even planning a move even further north in the near-ish future. Thank you again!!

I so happily got a side-gift from @horsefaerie today !!! Thank you so much!

We previously talked about Southwestern pecans. I’m such a huge fan because when I lived in Southern NM, the barn had pecan orchards around the horse paddocks and arena. Oh, oh OH, how much I loved cooling out horses while picking pecans off of trees and eating them then and there.

Sorry , peeps, you just don’t know what pecans should taste like unless you’ve tasted local and unprocessed pecans. The BOs used to gift me pecans every year from their orchard and it was so great.

I can’t thank you enough, @horsefaerie! What a great gift! What a blast from an excellent pecan past! I won’t even bake with these pecans. I will only eat them raw over time to appreciate their magnificence because I know what excellent pecans should taste like. I’m not joking, people, if you can ever get your hands on locally harvested pecans, please do so. They taste so different from what you can buy in stores, even ā€œorganicā€ stores.

I am so very serious in that I would like to pay for a similar shipment each year because I now live in NC. I’m very serious about setting up a similar shipment that I can pay for every year. I can be good at naggin PMs. I can send checks or do Venmo. I’m soooooooooooooooooooo serious! These pecans are truly excellent! I want, I want… Keep me in mind next year, Please. Seriously.

Thank you so much – I love them! I have been wearing the hat all week

Sad news all, I just reached out to her and she is no longer making them

However, I’ve seen a couple of people in my local Facebook groups advertising that they also knit them, so I popped onto Etsy, and sure enough, if you search for something like ā€˜matching horse and rider hats’ or ā€˜crochet horse hats’ you will get several results for something similar, so you too can take adorable photos!

Oh, I see. You burned her out so she lost her creative mojo and quit. Well, THANKS A LOT!

The etsy suggestion is a great idea. I’ll have to look into that. Thanks!

not to hijack your love for southwestern pecans… what about Arizona grown pistachios!!

I spend some time out in the Cochise Stronghold and fell in love with locally grown SE Arizona wine and pistachios!

SO GOOD… the ones in the stores taste like dust rocks compared to fresh ones. And I have had pounds of nuts shipped out to me here in the east coast. So. freaking. good!

And don’t forget pine nuts (pinion nuts) grown and harvested in next door New Mexico. So good! Made me go out back on my property and pick through the pinion pine cones. Unfortunately, the squirrels and jays beat me to it. (They eat well out here).

Oooooooooo, I’ve never heard of them before. I can’t remember if I said it on this thread but when I was in NM, I boarded with a family that grew pecans. Picking them off the tree? Oh. My. God.

I so love pistachios. OK, details about your source and shipping. I SO LOVE to support local growers if the can ship and the SW seems really great at growing nuts. I’m a believer in locally grown nuts.

I’m making pumpkin cheesecake for Christmas and I plan to add some pecans. But not many because I want them for myself. Walnuts will mostly be added. Stingy, yes, I’m well aware of that. And not ashamed.

I lived in Las Cruces for years and was unaware of the local pine nut scene. I think because I focused on pecans so much?

Did you all know that cashews and pecans and most nuts are an excellent thickening ingredient for soups? Blend the broth in a blender with the nuts and stir that back into the soup. It’s really, freaking amazing and I make all of my heavier soups and stews this way.

Do you know of a good grower who is fairly priced and can ship? No hurry, I normally use other nut and just use pine nuts for summer pesto but I could maybe extend my nut range.

Seriously, I know that nuts gotten locally are incredibly different tasting from nuts purchased in stores. And you grow your own!!! You have to get out there before the squirrels and jays beat you to it!! Our barn grows blueberries and peaches that are great for anyone to pick and it’s a constant issue as to who will get at ripe fruit first - humans or birds.

Still looking at my gifts. That’s will power! That they’re so pleasantly wrapped helps.
