Security barn cameras

So I’d like to be able to be alerted to intruders in my barn. My current cameras have an alarm/disarm feature but it goes off on any movement, so it’s not particularly helpful for immediate response. (I get 8-10 false alarms a night from moths, and sometimes the horses set them off too). Does anyone have a camera system that uses AI or something to detect people only? How does it work for you? I know there’s systems that don’t go off over dogs but I am not sure how good they are at not going off over our 1200lb ‘dogs’

I can set up my Eufy cams to report on people only. But–it often reports horses as people.

It might work okay if you limit the field of view to where horses aren’t hanging out. I limit my aisle cam to just the aisle so it’s not alerting on horses in the stalls.

the cameras we sold were looking for a specific minimum size heat signature, this was a software driven allowing the user (ours were government agencies) to configure as desired

Systems were active 24/7 but once activated went to record mode otherwise there would be mountains of data to review

If this to be mounted in an area where the horses would not become a target a game camera maybe would work for OP as those are fairly inexpensive and some can be set up to send the captured photos to their cell phones

If you have wifi available in the barn, I used the Blink cameras from Amazon on my farm in Florida, and they had the ability to detect people I think based on size or shape.

That’s what I currently have and as far as I can tell it can’t do that. It keeps going off on moths.

That sounds amazing put probably outside of my budget haha

cell game cameras are about $130

Which ones do you have? There’s a couple different kinds.

I had these:
Amazon.com: Blink Outdoor 4 (4th Gen) – Wire-free HD smart security camera, two-year battery life, enhanced motion detection, Works with Alexa – Add-on camera (Sync Module required) : Amazon Devices & Accessories

I meant the heat sensing; I have a few game cameras that send photos to my phone. It’s great for monitoring places no one should be but it can’t be disarmed so it would go off when I’m in the barn

I can totally understand that frustration.

My Blink cameras frequently go off because of spiders.

There are so many places to built a web, but for some reason, two of the camera locations seem to be very popular with spiders.

I think you might be talking about SpyPoint, and they are seriously shitty to deal with. They limit number of images sent without making that clear when you sign up and then good fucking luck getting access back after that point.

Zero stars. Do not recommend.

It’s the IR in the camera. Spiders like to build in front of lights. They can sense the IR light even though we can’t

Huh, I’ve had really good luck with them. I pay the $12 or whatever it is for unlimited photos. My property it’s on is very rural so I mostly receive photo montages of deer running and the neighbors cat. Every once in a while it goes off for high wind.

It’s been awhile, so I went back through my email to refresh on just what happened with them. I bought a few of these and one was non functional out of the box. I contacted them about replacing it…I think I tried to return it to the store first? The RMA process was an absolute nightmare and it dragged on for months. They finally issued a label to ship the defective camera back, then said they couldn’t replace because it was out of stock. They kept sending me emails asking if the issue had been resolved and I kept replying that, no, it hadn’t been at all resolved–where is my replacement camera, or a refund?

The entire thing was an absolute shit show and it was clear that they expected me to be okay with no refund and no camera. I was so disgusted with the whole thing that I never set up the cam I finally did receive because I had absolutely zero desire to give them a single penny more than I already had.

Through all of this, I found a ton of complaints about similar issues. It seemed like a LOT of their stuff fails right out of the box, and good luck if you draw that short straw!

Wow that’s terrible!

Looking for some help on an affordable system for outdoors that will detect humans and possibly record. I do not want to pay for monitoring if I can avoid it. I’m thinking that I’ll need about 5 cameras. Unfortunately, the local police chief has recommended this due to a crazy neighbor.

(and yes, I am a Luddite)

Thanks so much!

Do you have Wi-Fi coverage where you intend to install these cameras?

Do you have power where you intend to install?

there are solar powered security cameras, we have two or three? in a few paddocks

WiFi range extender/booster is also used

Yeah, as do I. But availability of power/desire to plug in influences recommendations and what to buy.

It also influences cost.

I have a set of their rechargeable cameras. It has a base in the house. We have 5 acres, I have two cameras in my barn so we got a WiFi booster for that and the front gate. We have 8 cameras total. Night vision, motion detection, audio , whole 9 yards. And photo and video quality is great.
You can take them down and recharge them or get the solar powered ones.
The system was very affordable and super easy to deal with, and no additional monitoring or video storage fees or any of that mess Everything is accessible right on my phone.
I have been very happy with it.
