Yes, technically, since although they are the same product (firocoxib) made by the same manufacturer, since equioxx came out in oh—-2017?? (Can’t remember) any prescribing of previcox for horses is ~technically~ off label, I guess, since pill-form firocoxib is available for horses now. I am guessing OP is using the two interchangeably as many of us do, but, pota-toe po-TaH-to, I’m all for the irony with this OP.
Which show?
The last I heard there hasn’t been one VSV case associated with a horse show this time around. No cases at shows. Not even any cases associated with shows. AFAIK. Not even when there were active cases near a horse show.
Based on listening to the EVH webinar that USEF did there did seem to be a correlation between division and EVH. A clear majority of the EVH cases at Thermal in 2022 were hunters and ponies. But that could be related to a number of factors: congregating at gate while they wait, more use of nose rags, barn areas that may be busier at night (braiding?), doing more classes, more lunging, and yes more dex. But much of this is also true for eq horses and they weren’t called out.
In the webinar they said they wanted to look at a more statistically significant sample size. And they were definitely aware of a possible correlation between EVH and dex. This is in the question portion.
You are correct. I still say Previcox and not Equioxx out of habit. I have a dog on Previcox and not a horse on Equioxx. In any case, the dressage people I know prefer Equioxx over bute.
Wow. I looked it up and you are correct. A retired vet told me it came from Thermal, and I took it on face value. Maybe they were talking about the last EHV outbreak or something else? That was actual hearsay, and I trusted the person as reliable because they used to be a vet. I apologize for that. From now on, I will not blame the HJ world for the VSV tests I have to get before each show. I had heard that there was a correlation between the hunters and deaths from EHV, but I cannot remember where I heard that. It was over a year ago if I remember correctly, and at least one horse died that had been at Sonoma Horse Park. I don’t remember the other details except that EHV can recrudesce when a horse is under stressful situations. This ties back into the asserted connection between the stresses present in these horses that are shown so much and given drugs regularly and outbreaks. So again, I apologize for the faulty VSV connection but stand by everything else.
Thank you.
Here’s the link to the EVH webinar. I was the one who posted the question about a possible correlation between EVH and medications.

But link may be useless because video won’t play. Maybe I should try a different browser.
Well that was fun. Personally I found it refreshing that for once it was a DQ instead of an eventer telling the h/j crowd how horrible they are and blaming them for the destruction of horsemanship. Carry on.
Hahahahahahahaha!!! USEF won’t even support the current licensed officials in hearings and you expect them to support someone saying a horse is lame??!!! This has to be the best one yet!
I kind of feel like I deserve some sort of prize for winning at the internet today.
Or perhaps the Gilda Radnor Award.
……Never Mind…
I’d watch that as a reality show all day long!
Me too…”Real Housewives of the Pony Ring”, the logo should include a measuring stick and limping Pony.
it can also mean the horse is in the handy class, or a horse is sulky in the ingate. But hey, believe what you want
IDK when you last showed, but Depo-illegal
Carolina Gold-illegal
multiple NSAIDS-illegal
dex-paperwork MUST be filled out before use, and if you do need it, has to be 12 hours prior
Drug testers have been at every show Ive been to this year.
Re: showing lame horses. Have you ever watched a “western” breed show ?? Or a saddlebred show?
I have always said the next Dance Moms should be Pony Moms…
I know that mare, been beaten by her many times! There is no question that, while she may be thick, she is super athletic. The job is easy for her
One might have said the same about me a few years ago…
Ive been showing at Lamplight for years. Have been there much of the summer. If you were at a dressage show, with a H/J show running concurrently, it was a non rated show
I’m sorry but that is wrong, it was May 20-21 (Lamplight Spring Classic II). Definitely USEF rated.
I have to apologize though, it was my next show I was tested at, not sure if the testers were at Lamplight that week.
i stand corrected
Med report is only required for 6-12 hours prior to competition and in that time it must be given by a vet. Greater than 12 hours no med form.
