Shedding

somehow I managed to lose my metal curry I typically lose for shedding. I was going to just buy another one but before I do that, is there any really good shedding products that have worked for other people? I’m willing to pay the extra money for a quality tool so if you guys have any suggestions I’d really appreciate hearing them!

I lovelovelove the Furminator. I buy the one for big dogs at Tractor Supply. I actually use it all winter as it helps make up for the arthritis in my hands and one shoulder:)

it it is pricey —$50.00 but it saves my hands & shoulder, keeps the horses clean, and does a whiz-bang job on shedding hair:)

I just tried the SleekEZ for the first time about two days ago. It was impressive.

I’m also a fan of the SleekEz!

Ah, SleekEz! A hacksaw blade set into a shaped 2 by 4 block of wood! We used primitive versions of the SleekEz 50 years ago!

I used a metal shedding blade on Furry Pony as a kid. Big rolls of wool came out.

Current horse sheds slower, and current coach claims shedding blades are bad for the new coat. I use a rubber curry usually.

But if she had a coat like Fuzzy Pony and blew it all out in 2 weeks I’d dig out the old blade for sure!

Another vote for SleekEZ. It’s more comfortable to use than the metal one. This, and a Shed Flower are the best.

Another vote for the SleakEZ! Not only does it help with shedding, it exfoliates dry skin, too. I suggest the smaller size. I like it better than the shedding flower.

I love the Epona Shed Flower

legs I like my hands on gloves. Body I use a shedding blade- adjustable large dog one by bamboo for most of them, and a cat shedding blade for the thin skinned tb.

For the hairy Arab, I use the shedding blade all over except for a rubber curry on her lower legs. She even scratches her head on the shedding blade (I don’t let her rub too hard).

Yep! Check your local tack stores too, some of them will have knock offs that are much cheaper. I have an 8" long one that I bought locally, and it cost about $8? The saw blade still has the manufacturing details on it, LOL

My guy sheds more slowly and is clipped in the winter and does great with the Hands On gloves. They are especially wonderful on legs and faces.

I got an EquiGroomer, which is a blade in a wooden block, probably similar to the SleekEz. I have a Paint gelding who is an incredible fuzz ball right down to his teddy bear ears. Shedding season started in earnest on Saturday, and the white always sheds first and grows back in first. I used it for the first time this morning and like it. The other thing I use is one of those dirt cheap plastic curries with the sharp teeth. They are really good for breaking up the dried out adobe that develops during mud season.

Sheddie Eddie - a Canadian Equigroomer/SlickEz they are great!

My old guy loves Hands On gloves; anything with metal is too rough for his sensitive skin.

I like my shedding blade but LOVE my Hands on Gloves and so do my horses. Massage and grooming/shedding help in one. As others mentioned, especially good on head and legs but I use all over. I am not impressed with my SleekEz, maying I’m doing it wrong…?

One horse rather objects to the Hands on Gloves. He’s much happier with the SleekEZ.

My horse loves the Shed Flower! I like my homemade knockoff SleekEz, so I use both to keep us happy!

I like the Shed Flower, too. I also use the Groom Ninja, which has a better contour to fit my hands and not make my wrists sore:

Also available in colors, so you can match your groom kit, or prevent it from walking off. I got the set of three, and have found I use them on dogs and horses.
