Not as far back as the Cap and Gown, Cold Climate and Navy Commander era, but after Superflash and Ruxton, Charlie showed an adorable chestnut called So No Wonder. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I remember him - what a cool horse! He was one of my favorites to watch when I was a junior. There was a girl showing him in the small juniors when I knew him, Claudia something(?)

I stand corrected Sherry - the tail at Harrisburg stood out in my mind - it was a long time ago. That year one of Sue Ashe’s ponies got cut down it’s side as well. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

You do have a good memory! I forgot all about Sue’s pony.
The show where Raven lost most of his tail was the same show where Blue By You was killed. It was the same night, if I remember correctly. They think it was done by the same person/people but no one was ever caught.

I wonder if anyone mentioned Supernatural. Wasn’t he really mean? I don’t know what made me think of him…[/QUOTE

Supernatural was such a nice horse! I was at Fairfield when he arrived there for Debbie Dolan. He came from the Curries. At the time, I think he was the most expensive junior hunter ever sold. The sad part, we could not keep him sound from the first day we had him!
I don’t remember him being mean at all. We had two nasty horses in the barn. One was Emerald Bay, one of the all time greats, but horribly nasty in the barn. The other was the always lovely Silk and Satin. She was really a nice mare, that won a ton in the first and second years with Leslie, and in the juniors with Tricia, Dina and a few others. She was the meanest, most flat out dangerous horse I have ever dealt with. I cannot even describe to you how awful she was. Emerson originally refused to have her in the barn, because he was so convinced she would hurt someone. He relented later, after he saw her go! I got the lucky job of caring for her.

BH2 - How well I remember you looking after that lovely grey mare! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

It was always an adventure. Everything about her was a challenge. Shipping, shoeing, clipping, everything. She would literally try to turn around and bite me when I was on the ladder braiding her mane. She could not stand and wait at the ring. She had to walk, quickly, from the schooling area right into the ring. Harrisburg and Washington were really tough. You also could not leg anyone up on her when she was standing. It took two people, one led her at the walk, one gave the rider a leg up while she was moving. Jeffrey rode her some as a junior, she HATED him! It took about four people to get him on. Once he was on, she was fine, but she despised him on the ground. This mare wasn’t fooling around.
Ruby G. Weber- I remember she got loose at Ox Ridge one year while Timmy Foster was lunging her. She tore thru your barn at a 100 miles an hour dragging the lunge line and cut herself on one of your trunks.

No…long before MSG…a little fair show with foot long pigtails

I shall take pity on you C: Lois Lane.

Racetb, I showed a horse over the weekend and someone asked me it’s name - for the life of me I couldn’t remember.

That’s true. Rain Forest’s death was the catlyst for the end Hunterdon as we all knew it.

Wasn’t So No Wonder bought by Claudia Santorelli and ridden by her and Heather Caristo?

I might be confusing him with No Small Wonder, but I think that was Dee Thomas’.

I can picture each, but always mess the names up. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes, Claudia had So No Wonder. She rode with Timmy at the time.

I saw Stocking Stuffer in retirement at Grant’s Farm in St. Louis.

Does anyone know if that one is still around?

P.S. I would love it if the Chronicle would put out a book about champions of the past (hint, hint…) Wouldn’t that be cool?

I was at Lake Placid the year Rain Forest was killed. I always HATED that show. Bad things always happened there. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I’ve thought of that about LP…something in that mountain air, I tell ya. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Lack of oxygen, perhaps?

Viren was the horse George Dawson bought for Andrew the year Tudy Maxwell came to the Midwest and proceeded to kick all of our asses with The Graduate and Rock of Steel and Blew By You and those great ponies S. Opal and Possum Corner Big John.

Ann went to George and said, ‘What do we do if they come back next year?’

I thought it was funny that Amy ended up with Rock of Steel.

A few years ago I met Champ Hough - he said S Showdowm would never have made it today. He needed a “little help” to get to the ring.

Top right- is that Mrs Baroody?
Mid right- James?

Radio Talk, Not Always was one of the bigger guys IIRC, maybe 17 hands? You’re right about size though, most were considerably smaller than he was. Although not a show hunter I can remember that San Lucas, the USET’s show jumper was considered HUGE, he was maybe 17.2? Personally I like the medium size horses better.

I may seriously have to get myself a young horse and have some one show it. Thinking about those days makes me salivate!

Correct on Reyn and Charlie…come on! They’re all pretty easy!!..These are all taken in Va…late 70’s…
…and THANK YOU! That IS Phil in the lone picture!!!
