Show Hunters of the past

Back to Kim’s Song’s retirement party:

I have talked to a BUNCH of people, including myself, who were there, and NO ONE can remember what year it took place. Any takers???

How about Snaps of Gold, Seawolf, Mr. Ed and Uncle Remus All from NE

Rumor has it they may bring the Welsh division back to Devon. I hope so, I showed in it 1976. I should look for my old Devon books. I would have to go to my mom’s and look around my old room.

Was Lea’s Boots a dark brown or bay with some short white socks? A very big boned horse?

And when I think of Maggie Moss, I think of Square Lake…a BAY (not a GRAY).

Okay, just to yank your chain…it was Square LakeS…and slay me if I’m wrong, but I’m almost certain it was chestnut, shown by Bucky Reynolds.

It was Not Always.

Mudpuddles didn’t really close, just changed names a couple years ago. It’s still in the same place and basically the same interior and everything, just different ownership. No one really refers to it by the new name anyway .

I live right up Guard Hill from Shannon, on Baldwin. Shannon is still there. Kate Oliver has an aisle next to the indoor and is running a very successful business with ponies, juniors and amateurs. Cynthia Williams the other indoor aisle. I think the old barns are Lisa Rex’. The back part of the property was added on by the current owner, Amy Pennington, who put up a jumping field with natural obstacles and lots of paddocks with water and run-in sheds. From the road it looks cramped, but once you walk out back its quite roomy and nice.

Don’t worry PB, seeing how I am probably the oldesat, my brain cells could have gone bad. We are not always right. But then again I could be.

Didn’t Dana Douglass also have a brown horse, I want to say Scotch Tweed?

Brave Warrior - Wendy Wanamaker (Hendricks)
Proud Journey, Gamecock - George Morris,

Robin Rost’s hunter was Speech Maker, I think.

I, too, was at Lake Placid that year. I remember everyone talking and no one believing it. Jack Lowe, was the vet.

Riot Free was a brown horse, owned by Edie Spruance. Not much mover, but he could jump.

I Love the pic of Bernie on Red…The Cardinal…
Looks like a Hunter…

I stand corrected Sherry - the tail at Harrisburg stood out in my mind - it was a long time ago. That year one of Sue Ashe’s ponies got cut down it’s side as well.

Cideye, sweetie, first Riot Free (bay, not gray) and now Square Lakes? He was chestnut, not bay. But, I must remember that in your day, you only had black and white photos to refer to…

Speaking of Maggie Moss, she also had a wonderful little mare that she called Maid of India that she won boatloads on. Weeellll, that little mare was started by Hans Senn in MN under the name Charis, ridden by Tina Holzhammer of IA who rode for Hans for awhile. Charis was bought by a woman named Marge LeRoy who was a HUGE owner of horses in MN at that time, who renamed her Dominique and her daughter Suzie showed her and won a lot. Marge managed to spend a vast fortune in the space of a few years and stopped paying Hans board for the 16 horses she had with him. He was forced to sell them at sheriffs auction, and Dominique was bought for a song by Maggie, or her agent, and the rest was history.

Sidenote: LHU’s Valor was also owned by Marge and was to have gone through the sale. But he was the favorite of Suzie LeRoy (a dear friend of mine)and she was a favorite of Hans’, so he hid Valor and kept him out of the sale. Suzie showed him for a number of years until she finally parted with him and he was bought by our own LHU and came into my care at Sandron.

Isn’t it just a small world???

Thanks BH2!! I knew you’d come through.
She was a nice girl and I loved that pony.

That I cannot say, I did lose track of so many of these horses, it is indeed a pleasure just to see there names again, and remember each of them for a minute or two.

<BLOCKQUOTE class=“ip-ubbcode-quote”><div class=“ip-ubbcode-quote-title”>quote:</div><div class=“ip-ubbcode-quote-content”>And I remember the immigration folks being on the grounds the next day. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Was LP the hot spot for immigration raids before this incident, or does the recurrent issue stem from that occurrence?

So how many of us were at LP that year?
