Show Hunters of the past

Charlie Weaver is still at the top of the game. This year at the Hampton Classic, he trained the sm jr champion Grateful for owner Kelly Klein. Typical Charlie, the horse is gorgeous and an outstanding jumper. It was especiallly impressive because Grateful is a 1st yr green horse in a division of well-oiled machines!

Kelly told me she is retiring from the show ring, so Grateful is for sale. Some lucky kid is going to have a lot of fun on that horse!!!

You don’t see Charlie around the shows at much as before because his business is purposefully small and quality-oriented. But when he’s at the gate you can be sure something beautiful is happening in the ring!

Hi, Teri!

Yes, have to agree, there is no one better than Charlie. When he was riding for Cismont, they were an unstoppable machine. Junior tells me so many stories. Charlie was always at the barn first think in the a.m. to help with the lunging, prep and anything else that needed attention. He and Junior worked very closely together, and there is no one that Junior thinks more highly of.

He goes to FL every winter and attends our reunions when we have them. Wonderful man!

I can’t go through all 600+ posts, but I hope someone has mentioned Isgilde, Marianna ( Sara Nan Payne) and Hot Shot Kid (Terry Rudd’s large pony).

Very well said Terri. He is a true professional in every sense of the word… and he’ll be around for years to come if he has anything to say about it.

Charlie is just great.

I had NOT seen him for a number of years, but while I was at a show who was walking by but Charlie. I hear someone say Hi How are you? I have known him for many years, but their was no particular reason for him to stop to say hello. But if anyone really knows him that’s is exactly what he would do if he knows you. The perfect gentleman.

It was so good to see hiim again and be able to say Hi.

One of these horses that we bred is Oberon, His career encompassed ovder 12 years of serious showing, winning numerous Championships at Harrisburg, Washington, the Oaks, Indio…

He began in the Green Conformation Hunters with Tony Workman, owned by Ruth Douglass. He was sold to California to a Junior, and won in the Large Juniors then Working Conformation Hunters until he made it to his final home in Arizona with trainer Kathy Johnston, where he was very successful in also the AO olders. His last owner Marlee Hoffman sent him home to us at 18 years of age.

Now in his early 20’s he is 3/4 retired and still sound, and home with us, where he is ridden about 3 times a week by my niece and anyone who needs to feel what a GREAT horse should feel like…

Me too!

Frascati (Scotty) R ridden bt Daryll Pirtle Portela!

I was there, too.

Anyone else a pack rat like me? I emailed the contact on the Freudy website. If you have old Freudy photos OR PROOFS, they will restore them and even make your proofs into 8 x 10 photos. I dug through the old photo albums and came up with a bunch of proofs from Devon & MSG that I’d never had made up into photos. Sending a batch off today

Years ago my older brother took me to my first hunter jumper horse show. Was very young and fell in love at first sight.there was a horse there named Whissendene or Whissendean. My brother I’m sure was there to meet the ladies,I think they were twins that owned him. There was a beautiful girl there and her last name was Peavly.I remember that because I drank their dairy product everyday.

The show was around St Louis and in the 60s.Ask my brother and he said he doesn’t remember. But I will never ever forget that horse . I now own my own.If you could please help oh wise ones?
