was that Lucinda?
Sounded like Terry (i’ve forgotten her last name, starts with an “L”)
yes, Lucinda Green and John Kyle. He does all disciplines, knows the breeding of all the horses, who has won recently or in the past. He is a fount of knowledge.
We can agree to disagree! Is showjumping your discipline? My hunch is that you might be looking at this through a different lens. I think eventing, dressage, and showjumping are handled much better by specialized commentators.
Not if the commentator is Melanie! I’m sure she is a nice person with lots of impressive riding credentials but she stinks even as a show jumping commentator and she’s even worse for any other discipline.
I have really enjoyed Lucinda and John Kyle. I wasn’t aware of him before these Games but he’s terrific, not to mention that he seems to pronounce everyone’s names correctly! No small feat considering how many athletes and locations he is dealing with.
I feel sorry for the commentators trying to pronounce the names of all these horses. There are some tongue twisters, for sure.
you obviously haven’t listened to Melanie. She is terrible. And she has been at it for years and just because she rode sj doesn’t mean she can do commentary. Lucinda is OK but John is very good. He does all the big shows all over Europe in all disciplines. He doesn’t specialize in one but that is all he does, and he is a cracking good commentator. I am cutting Lucinda a little slack because I am an eventer like she was, (ha as if!) but I think she has a ways to go to be in John’s league as a commentator.
This is a small thing but I wish they left the horse and rider names on the screen for the whole round like most horse show livestreams do! I’m half-watching while I work and I keep missing the names.
I had the same thought. If they have the time with the score on the screen, why not leave the names next to it?
Didn’t Mclain’s father went to jail for horse abuse?
He killed horse(s) for the insurance money, just google him to find all the ugly details.
Same for me, I am working or trying to, and keep missing the names of who is currently on course.
I was watching and drooling about him too! Already plotting to breed some mares I know in Europe to the sire of Alfons Ra Santo Antonio (the stallion is known to throw ammy friendly temperaments and is one of those great allrounders that have offspring both in high level jumping & dressage) and now also Quel Homme de Hus. That horse was just wow!
Don’t really have the time to ride or money to show these horses right now (small kid phase), but getting a baby or two in the oven of some quality mares I know for when I’m gonna be back in saddle is an idea that I’ve been toying around for some time. Calling the breeder tomorrow
"Qualification Rules : The best 30 athletes (including all tied for 30th place) after the individual qualifier progress to the individual final.
Comments from the Irish contingent.
I think she has a better grasp than your average keyboard jockey.
I wish I had Lucinda and John Kyle. The CBC announcers called Darragh Kenny, Kenny Darragh and they know nothing about the horses
You may find this interesting; I think GB team DNFd, but I’d have to watch this to confirm!
They are showing jumpers from this morning right now on NBCSN.
What does camilla parker esque mean? Lucinda is pretty highly qualified to discuss anything to do with horse training. Maybe not the ins and outs of competing on the international circuit but she’s definitely sat on more horses than most everyone else. That doesn’t make her a good commentator by virtue but you can’t fault her knowledge base.
